It is difficult to explain the situation at Newcastle given the lack of structure with no Director of Football in place and the scouting system in turmoil. The owners will be learning a tough lesson in the coming months whilst they will be pushed by agents hawking players around and “advisors” looking for commissions. Having now appointed a “Transfer Advisor” they should be able to let go of others, but they have not done so yet. From a negotiation standpoint they lack experience. From a financial standpoint they still need to comply with FFP but Mike Ashley left them in a very good place financially from a transfer perspective that they should be able to fulfil the immediate needs of RB, CB (maybe two) and CM For January and possibly an upgrade on Joelinton. The summer will see more significant changes.
Odysseas Vlachodimos (G) At the right price Benfica will sell. Lille were keen but no agreement and turned elsewhere. Newcastle and Arsenal have a declared interest. Newcastle should focus on getting him signed – he is a very god option – but the club need to clear the decks of what they have. A good chance for the summer if the club press for him.
Dean Henderson (G) Manchester United want to keep DH but he wants guarantees with Borussia Dortmund and Spurs considering their options. Newcastle may offer an immediate solution. Common sense dictates keep Henderson, but I suspect the club think otherwise. Perhaps a loan again. A move to Newcastle seems unlikely.
Sam Johnstone (G) Will not be sold in January, but Spurs, Newcastle, West Ham and Southampton may look to offers in the summer. Other sides will be more attractive than Newcastle.
Kieran Trippier (RB) Atletico will sell. They are likely hoping for Arsenal or Everton interest as well as Newcastle and Manchester United - but Everton interest may have left with CA. Makes no sense to me but something may be possible.
Sven Botman (CB) Milan or Newcastle could look to him. Will be available, but perhaps not until the summer, and many PL clubs have been scouting Lille. Emerging as first choice CB for Newcastle. I think something could be done.
Duje Caleta-Car (CB) Newcastle and Wolves have approached Marseille about a January transfer. There is sustained interest from West Ham with ex-scout Georges Santos joining West Ham.The player sees these clubs as a step down and want Champions League football. Would need a hard sell of the Newcastle project. Marseille are keen to move him on. A maybe for Newcastle.
James Tarkowski (CB) options are Newcastle and Wolves. One for next summer perhaps or a fall-back position for the preferred choices. Advice would be wait for preferred choices and don’t buy for the sake of it.
Tosin Adarabioyo (CB) Newcastle has a long-term interest and that has not changed with the ownership. Fulham will not sell until they know how they stand for next season. Very unlikely for January.
Abdou Diallo (CB) Newcastle have a declared interest - PSG will be willing to sell. Milan will offer a loan with an option and that might be more attractive to Newcastle.
Ben Mee (CB) Again there is interest from Newcastle. Would be well down the list.
Niklas Sule (CB) Tuchel is keen on the player but would need to convince others at the club. They will look to a new contract else a single payment cash only sale. Newcastle provides an option but I cannot see the player being interested.
Nathan Ake (CB) Time to move on with the player expressing an interest in a return to London - West Ham, Newcastle and Crystal Palace may offer solutions.
Kalidou Koulibaly (CB) Bayern Munich put in an offer for KK that was much less (about half) than Napoli's valuation of €50M in the summer. The interest of Liverpool, Everton, Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City and Manchester United has likely gone due to his age and whilst there is no doubt about how good he is, €50M for a 30 year old would not seem like good business. Perhaps at half that price he would be a good solution and financial issues may see Napoli reduce their asking price and to ask for offers from elsewhere. Milan has a declared interest. It has been suggested that Newcastle may be interested, but if they start buying without the right structure in place it will go horribly wrong. I hope not.
Nathaniel Phillips (CB) West Ham interest remains and an enquiry has been made by Brighton who are seeking a CB addition in January. Perhaps a consideration for Newcastle but certainly not first choice. If not over-priced he should get a move.
Joe Rodon (CB) Down the list for Newcastle. Should be at the bottom of the list.
Marcelo Brozovic (DM/CM) a Free Agent in 2022 and will possibly be sold if a new contract cannot be agreed by January - both sides want an agreement. He becomes attractive to Newcastle, PSG and Spurs if he becomes a Free Agent. An agreement to stay may be reached but Newcastle become attractive because of the money - but they are unattractive as they are not building the management structure correctly. I doubt a move to Newcastle.
Boubacar Kamara (DM/CB) is doing himself no favours by not commiting to a new contract. Bayern Munich are still keen and may well have a pressing need to replace Marc Roca in January. Marseille have been approached by a third party on behalf of Newcastle, but they will be seen as a less than attractive option. Milan may just bite and look for a pre-contract, but Marseille could look to a January sale with ex scout Georges Santos joining West Ham and recommending the player - but he would probably be a Declan Rice replacement if anything were to happen, so it is unlikely. Interest of Chelsea has shifted elsewhere but Barcelona remain keen on taking Boubacar Kamara and a member of the Marseille staff. The member of Marseille staff says she is still hopeful that agreement can be reached to extend his contract. If there is no decision by the end of December, then Marseille accept he will move on - possibly as a Free Agent. Manchester United have spoken with his agent, which would be as a Matic replacement. Manchester City, like Chelsea, have a preferred option now. Newcastle need to sit down with the lady from Marseille and make a cash offer in January that will keep Marseille happy as he will not be leaving as a Free Agent – with permission to speak to the player they can then sell their project to this significantly talented youngster. Something can be done.
Gonzalo Villar (CM) It has not worked out for the player in Rome and his agent is being asked to find him a new club. Tentative approaches have been made to a number of mid-table Spanish sides but they have no interest at a €12M asking price for a player who would largely be a fringe player. This has prompted the player being offered to at least Newcastle and Everton in the Premier League. I suspect he will stay in Italy – and I would rule out a move to England.
Aaron Ramsey (CM) will be 31 by January and has been available for a while. Juventus are willing to release him from his contract at any time and his agent and a better known third party are working hard to find him a new home - the problem will be agreeing a salary package for a player who is now become a bit part player at Juventus. He may well have proven to be a reasonable Wijnaldum replacement at his best but those days appear gone and I am not aware of Liverpool looking to him but the supporters keep asking. May be difficult to find a home for but Juventus had hoped Paratici would be interested in taking him to Spurs - but that was not the case. There was an enquiry from West Ham, possibly at the prompting of his agent. His agent has more recently spoken with Everton who are hovering around FFP issues and need to reduce the wage bill and utilise the cheaper or free options available to them (like Begovich, Townsend and Gray this summer) and face work to extend contracts of some of the 8 who will out contract in the summer. If something could be done to keep the wages reasonable, he may provide a solution for them in midfield. Newcastle have been approached by his agent but have no need for such a player although if they still fear losing Sean Longstaff in the summer. Juventus were quoting €10M for him in the summer - now they want his wages off the books. If they cannot find a club to pick the player up as a Free Agent, they could end up negotiating to buy him out of the rest of his contract and he could end up in a similar position to Jack Wilshere. This is exactly the sort of transfer Newcastle need to avoid.
Toni Kroos (CM) Offered to Newcastle. I understand that there is no interest from the club.
Adrien Rabiot (CM) The third of the midfield misfits that Juventus are pushing to move on in January to fund and replace with perhaps two of Tchouameni, Kessie and Pogba going forward. Will, like every other player, be offered to Newcastle. A third party has been instructed to find him a new home – I don’t see Newcastle biting.
Youri Tielemans (CM) will not sign a new contract so will be available in the summer at a reduced fee. His agent confirms that there is interest from Real Madrid who are looking for a Luka Modric replacement and that he has been approached by a third-party representing Newcastle and is aware that other clubs, including Bayern Munich and Liverpool have scouted the player. It would be a coup for Newcastle if something could be done – but unlikely.
Dele Alli (AM) PSG were open to taking him on an initial loan last January - Spurs wanted him to see out the season and had no intention of letting him leave on loan. Spurs have been open to selling since the summer and would not accept a loan with an obligation to buy to ensure he moves on. It is difficult to see any side taking a risk on a straight loan with an obligation to buy - if it were an option then perhaps Aston Villa and Newcastle might provide options. I don’t see it as a progressive move for the club but those making decisions at Newcastle may see otherwise.
Florian Wirtz (AM) has admirers in Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Bayern Munich. Newcastle have a very experienced third party scouting players in Germany for them and have also looked at Wirtz. Has signed a new long-term contract but is playing well and Bayern might well look to an offer in the summer. Bayer Leverkusen will not want to sell and will point to the length of his contract. Will not move to Newcastle.
Jesse Lingard (AM) Needs to move on. Everton, Newcastle and West Ham may offer options. If Newcastle were to push something could be done.
Antonin Barak (AM) West Ham see the player as an option to Jed Wallace and Jesse Lingard. Newcastle has an interest. I expect him to stay in Italy and perhaps Inter Milan would offer a good solution.
Philippe Coutinho (AM/CM) was available in the summer and was actively being offered around to English, Italian and German sides - but the clubs approached like Spurs, Arsenal, Wolves, Leicester Liverpool and Everton had preferred options or no interest and would only look to him if options dried up and if a loan to buy option were available - but Barcelona ideally wanted cash and still do. Italy may provide an option on loan but that won't suit Barcelona which might well rule out Lazio. Milan would not be a surprise at the right price. If Barcelona cut their losses, then they may look to an exchange and might see who clubs like Juventus have available. Kia wanted to get him in to Arsenal ahead of Odegaard or Aouer - but that came to nothing. Kia will knock on Edu's door again in January and try and strike a deal - but with Odegaard signed it is hard to see where he would fit in without Smith Rowe departing. Kia will likely try Spurs again, who do have space in their squad but unless they soon turn things around their focus might be elsewhere. A deal involving Ndombele may be suggested. Kia has approached Newcastle, but they have no immediate need for a superagent and need to resolve other issues before buying players like Coutinho. I expect Kia might now get his way and get the player in to Arsenal.
Nabil Fekir (AM/F) Real Betis were happy to sell Fekir who they saw as not contributing enough in terms of goals although he has had a reasonable season last year. However, they want €35M - may be tough to find a buyer. Fekir is keen to stay at Betis. His agent spoke with Everton and West Ham over the summer and has recently approached Newcastle. The player will try and focus and stay where he is.
Luis Diaz (LW/LM) Porto rejected an offer from Spurs in 2020 and Mr Mourinho is thought to be keen on taking him to Roma and moving Justin Kluivert on permanently. Spurs do remain keen. The player has been offered to Chelsea and Everton and has been scouted by Newcastle, Barcelona, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund at the behest of his agent. His agent would like to organise a move to Real Madrid. No chance of a move to Newcastle.
Jed Wallace (RW/AM) Rangers have an advantage as they can negotiate his signing as of January when West Ham and Newcastle will need to wait until he leaves Millwall in May. An interesting option if the club is building for the future rather than buying for the present.
Ismaila Sarr (RW) Still of interest to Liverpool. Offered to Newcastle but I understand there is no interest. Will be available in the summer.
Eden Hazard (LW/RW) Real Madrid have problems one way or another with all of their wingers and there is no guarantee any will be at the club next season. He will be another that Real Madrid listen to offers for and has been offered to several Premier League sides.
Ousmane Dembele (LW/RW/F) Klopp's interest does not seem to go away but the attraction will be that he is a Free Agent although his preference is likely to be elsewhere unless Salah or Mane were to leave. He will be a Free Agent in the summer - Barcelona may try again with a new contract or a January sale but his agent is offering him around now - looking for a large signing on package from the usual suspects. Barcelona may spring a surprise in January and look to see if something could be done with potential targets at Juventus or Milan to reduce the price. They may also look to an exchange with Chelsea for Rudiger but the Chelsea interest is elsewhere rather than Dembele. With Sancho arriving it is hard to see interest from Manchester United although they have been approached. PSG are seeking a French player still but have a preferred option as a Mbappe replacement. A discussion has been held with Newcastle. I suspect he will sign a new contract but the arrival of others may need to be taken in to account first. Injury concerns, inconsistent form and high wages must be considered by any potential buyers.
Eden Hazard (LW/RW) Real Madrid have problems one way or another with all of their wingers and there is no guarantee any will be at the club next season. He will be another that Real Madrid listen to offers for and has been offered to several Premier League sides .It is difficult to talk of the timings of transfers but Hazard is, like all of the wingers at Real Madrid and Chelsea, potentially available for a transfer. Whilst there is some support from someone senior at Chelsea, others are not keen to pay €50M for a 30 year old or exchange players. Has been offered to Newcastle as well. I suspect a move elsewhere as part of a part-exchange is favourite.
Anthony Martial (F) Could be let go to raise funds after the arrival of Ronaldo. His agent has spoken with Atletico Madrid, Newcastle, Juventus, Sevilla and Arsenal, no doubt amongst others. Lyon remain a club looking for a striker so a deal may be possible. Sevilla offer nice weather and that may be enough to attract him there.
Gabriel Barbosa (F) Agent has been doing the rounds in England offering the player on a loan with obligation to buy deal to at least Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham. Now being offered around mainland Europe - most sides still see the risk as high.
Wout Weghorst (S) Mr Mourinho is keen to take WW to Roma to replace loanee Borja Mayoral who hasn’t worked out. A senior and trusted third-party scouting Germany for Newcastle has highly-recommended WW to the club and he would be a significant upgrade on Joelinton, but Wolfsburg do not want to sell before the summer unless their efforts to sign an American youngster come to fruition very soon – and it won’t. Could be a good addition at a reasonable price.
Gaetan Laborde (S) Newcastle keen but he only joined Rennes in the summer and they will not want to sell.
Edin Dzeko (S) Someone asked the other day about ED to Newcastle. It makes no sense for club unless looking for a short-term miracle - maybe if relegated.
Odion Ighalo (S) 32-year-old stop-gap offered to Newcastle. Makes zero sense for the club.

Difficult to say as little interest is being shown in Newcastle players. However, those where interest has been shown by other clubs or they could be leaving:
Expect I or 2 GKs to move on.
Matt Ritchie (RB) Wants guarantees of game time as age is catching up with him.
DeAndre Yedlin (LWB) Galatasaray are keen.
Paul Dummett (LB) Out of contract in the summer.
Fabian Schär (CB) Out of contract in the summer.
Ciaran Clark (CB) Could make way for an upgrade.
Federico Fernández (CB) Could make way for an upgrade.
Sean Longstaff (CM) Out of contract in the summer – I expect a new one may be agreed but Nottingham Forest are keen.
Jonjonjo Shelvey (CM) Will likely stay for now but a decision will be made – useful cover.
Dwight Gayle (S) Won’t survive the cull.
Joelinton (S) An upgrade is needed as soon as possible.
