G’day Ed,

I was just reading about this possible Newcastle takeover or investment and would like to know your thoughts if any on it? Have you come across any information regarding potential investors.

If reported and it is some China-man it could go one or two ways (really well or really terrible) but to see the back of Ashley they may have to take the chance on any willing consortium.

For me it has been a long time coming that this club get the top investment it really deserves. This club are a huge sleeping giant and with the right direction can really challenge at the top in my view.

{Ed002's Note - I can't really help. Clubs have got a bounce in value this year due to the start of the new TV deal. Perhaps you don't understand about the limitations on investment and to be fair Mr Ashley has hand in his pocket a lot.}

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jun 2017 07:49:49
Ed002 we both know whatever Ashley has put into this club he will get back and then some. There is always ways around these "limitations" Chelsea and especially Man City can attest to that.

You did say a few years back that in 2017 some big clubs may change hands. I always thought you may be have been talking about the Glazers but maybe big clubs like Newcastle can be just as an exciting project for some individuals.

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure about the Chelsea or Manchester City references. Since FFP came in Manchester City have been sanctioned and Chelsea has stock=pile money from sales. 2017 was always going to be a big chance of a sale year - the Galzers would sell but the value is so high it would need a floatation and the exchange rate is against them.}

15 Jun 2017 08:22:12
Jesus Ed if the Glazers went ahead with a floatation in the current climate it would be one hell of a risk. Do you think these guys like the Glazers and Ashley have just had enough with Soccer clubs or are they just happy to make a healthy profit before the bubble bursts?

{Ed002's Note - It would need to be managed for the Glazers to sell and discussions held with institutional investors.}

12 Jun 2017 21:31:33
Chinese takeover?

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2017 12:23:20
If its going to happen then it needs to happen now otherwise its going to mess up transfers.

£20m bid turned down for cairney, surely cairney will actually try and force it through because they're not going to get any more for him.

Abraham is stalling so time to move on, any of iheanacho, batshauyi, king or sturridge would do me.

Looks like this Florian Lejuene could be on his way but I don't know what the hold up is. Now it seems like Reina is interested in a move.

14 Jun 2017 13:59:19
Stark reality so farAshley has done so much damage
Playing in front of 50k plus every week or sitting in the bench shows hi the mighty have fallen

Lots of time but we will be screwed over big time and the only person who can change this is Benitez

We are cursed with Ashley andI hope he sells up and soon.

20 Jun 2017 22:31:28
Back again Vida. Same post as usual! As bad as Ashley is, he ain't the baddest or the stupidest owner out there. I am focussing on the team for a change. Its pointless talking about the owner. We all know he will push Raffa out somehow. I am just enjoying being back in the PL, being champions and dreaming about big games.

04 Jun 2017 07:41:33
Whose coming on the 9th art.?

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jun 2017 22:30:13
Certainly 2/ 3 players we are inked with so all the pre negotions are invaluable
7/ 8 even 9 new comers in this window
Tammy off to Brighton unless Atsu can convince him to come to Toon
All exciting stuff awaits.

01 Jun 2017 11:33:42
Pepe Reina agreed personal terms to reunite with rafa.

Thoughts on this lads?

01 Jun 2017 16:07:04
Would be an excellent signing. top class keeper with valuable premier league experience.

01 Jun 2017 16:28:33
Also portugese reports saying we've had €14m bid accepted for Lisbon centre back Ruben Semedo.

03 Jun 2017 02:19:17
Well Reiner ain't coming but signings set up for thr 9th June
Will happen.

03 Jun 2017 10:39:24
All silly rumours Newcastle don't tell you anything until there nearly signed good young hungry players is what we need.

19 May 2017 18:06:45
Awful lot of ckearing out to do
and top 10 teams have quality in depth and without it you
will struggle

Some big decisions to be made
cincerning Mitro Perez Shelvey Mbemba ladwho will only besquad players

Agree2 Disagree0

22 May 2017 11:59:21
shelvey will be a starter next season but he needs competition and we need more creative players in the team.

Really don't know about mitro, I love his passion but he simply hasn't scored enough goals, he's good at link up play but that's about it. Perez deserves a chance next season imo, and i'd like us to keep mbemba, they both have potential.

At least 7+ signings needed tho.

24 May 2017 16:09:30
Yes all of them I think it gives us 15 squad players and we need top up with 10 quality players
including GK 2FB CB DMF Striker and Creative midfield and Winger.

14 May 2017 11:12:42
According to northern echo Joshua King is Rafa's top attacking target in the summer, the striker now has 16 premier league goals this season.

Tom Cairney also a top target for competition for Shelvey but Fulham could want up to £20m especially if they are promoted

Agree1 Disagree0

15 May 2017 19:31:10
Perhaps 50 names coming up the ganes have begun.

28 Apr 2017 12:43:55
Been a hectic week after promotion, typical of newcastle to have some sort of success then have to balance things out by doing something ridiculous, the hmrc investigation just sums up how this club has been run over the past few years, bunch of frauds running the club, although not looking like any points deduction now, just hope it doesn't come back to bite us in the a*** in the long term.

Although rafa's press conferences looking generally positive about talks with ashley, looking like he will be backed and given the reigns, just hope it stays that way again.

Very slim chance we'll win the league now, would be nice to but can't say we deserve it when we've been bang average to poor in the second half of the season. New signings in january would have changed that, but rafa dealt with it well.

6 first team signings needed in the summer with potentially 2 more for squad depth in my opinion.

Players that need to be shipped out:
De Jong

Think with the money brought in there, and with the profit made last season, i'd say it would be fair for mike ashley to back rafa with a decent budget of around £70million+

Positions probably needed, probably, right back for competition with yedlin, an experienced centre back, a decent left back that can defend and attack, a proper holding midfielder than can also distribute well, a creative number 10, 2 new wingers with pace and hopefully work ethic, and a pacey proven goalscorer up top.

Hope everything is well vida, art, des, plunjar

Agree4 Disagree1

29 Apr 2017 21:24:56
Everything is well jtoon. Agree with above. 8 quality players needed.

01 May 2017 11:20:23
Thanks JToon, all good down under. Thankfully got to see only the good games beamed live. Leeds 1-1 was a great game.

On signings, we could really do with a whole new team again. That is not a wise idea as this squad is just getting to gel. So only a few first team additions for me. That would be a striker to replace Mitrovic, a leftsided winger and a holding midfielder. Clarke and Mbemba could be a great partnership in the middle. I do wonder why Mbemba could not play defensive midfield.

We should sell everyone you mention, but perhaps not in the summer.

01 May 2017 12:34:38
Bet you're buzzing especially des, can watch all our games now we're in the prem.

Bit ironic that villa after all that's happened between us and them could be the ones to help us win the league.

02 May 2017 05:31:31
Twas a struggle even for the optimistic
PL a new dimendion and hopefulluy a prick of concious for the prick who owns this football club and instead of being compared with Burnley we can be compared to the top 6 clubs in the PLand with Rafa we have a chance of that.

02 May 2017 10:09:14
Indeed, I don't see how the fat man can't back rafa. Give him some dosh and control.

The figures of 100-150mil being bandied about is deluded and OTT, judging by previous promoted clubs netcsoend being around the 20/ 30 mil mark, I think any thing about 55mil plus would be fair for Ashley to back Rafa with. I'm sure we'll start seeing more fantasy football wish lists on who we'd like to sign for us in the summer but truth is no one knows who rafa wants.

02 May 2017 14:24:31
Was it not 85m spent bringing Ginny and co to the Toon
Very interesting when you consider 40/ 50m being thrown around for one player by the top clubs.
Never mind we can always dream.

{Ed007's Note - You stole Ginola from under Celtic's nose and just so you know I'm still holding a grudge against the whole of Newcastle for it! ;)

02 May 2017 16:05:17
£80m spent on Mbemba, Thauvin, Wijnaldum, Mitrovic, Shelvey, Townsend, Saivet, art.

Ashley backed with the cart but bolted on the wrong horse (aka a donkey in mcclaren)

He now has the right horse and needs to bolt on the cart

I reckon there will be some shrewd signings by rafa, some that no one may have heard of, through his large list of contacts around Europe. We have a good young british spine that we need to retain for next season, it's the players around them that need to be improved on.

02 May 2017 20:28:09
And 50m being spoken about for Van Dyke
We either sign players others can't or don't know about or be left behind
2017/ 18 will be the largest spend ever it will be interesting to see how we fair.

Saving grace could be Rafa knows his players and can persuade players to sign only obstacle Ashley.

02 May 2017 20:00:23
Aye Ed what a move could have become another Jinky Johnstone there again no one could emulate the Wee man.

{Ed007's Note - He would have tore it up in Scotland, it seems like a lifetime away now when Celtic could genuinely compete for a signing of Ginola's quality.}

Any tactics of negativity will expose Rafa Benitez
Having said that 3-1 to the Toon I hope.

16 Mar 2017 14:02:36
Thauvin in the france squad.

Was he really not good enough or was he just not given enough time?

{Ed002's Note - Thauvin is a good player that won't be playing for Newcastle again. I think he took a while to settle in England and he now has that return to form.}

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Mar 2017 15:50:57
Thauvin is good player. But I think he was not cut out for the speed and physicality of the premier league very much like cabella.

17 Mar 2017 16:17:04
Not given a chance by what now is obvious pooor coaches
HBA and now this lad in French squad says it all really.

04 Mar 2017 23:09:31
What a difference when the tactics passion will to win and skill come together as they did today.

Hard fought and deserved 3 points

04 Mar 2017 20:34:43
That was the best first half performance this season and exactly what I gave been bleating on about.
We performed with aggression passion Skill and a plan.
Murphy to start against Reading and 2 wingers again.

20 Feb 2017 22:03:00
Not convincing but job done, we grew into the game once we went 1-0 up. Villa played very well defensively in first 40 mins sitting back and frustrating us. But overall deserved.

Lansbury scoring an own goal as well, couldn't make it up.
Even though gouffran got the goal, atsu definitely needs to start against bristol at home, that dangerous cross he put into the box was more than gouffran created in the whole time he was on. Wise of rafa to put diame in instead of perez, I don't think he would have got the better of jedinak.

We go again.

Agree4 Disagree0

21 Feb 2017 00:39:08
Diane did nothing NO end product
The lack of passion is worrying and the team look at times lathargic and a couple of mistakes by Dummet could have been fatal
Bristol is a must win because the next 3 games away against the chasing pack will be hard and any points critical.

21 Feb 2017 01:30:35
Lack of passion? Sorry but can't agree with that art.

But yes next 3/4 games are massive and could be season defining.

21 Feb 2017 15:32:55
As long as your happy that is all that counts
Personally I am not and the Richie interview after the match seemed to agree

We carry too many players in each game and I for one will be glad to see the backs of Dummet Colback Anita Perez Sells Diame Guffron and Mitro
They have all played a part but there are much better players we could and should have had in January, but having said that if we are promoted it is all water under the bridge.

21 Feb 2017 17:28:55
With Gayle likely to be out for a few games it's mitro's last chance for me. When he came on he looked lively fired up and full of running but didn't have a great deal of opportunities, he needs to show that same sort of hunger in the next few

Against Bristol Perez and Atsu need to come back in but Gouffran and Diame would be more reliable when we play huddersfield Brighton and reading which will all be massive 6 pointers.

21 Feb 2017 20:14:53
These are the only players we have and that is the sadness of it
They need a rocket up their asses and get their heads down and ensure they put a shift in.

22 Feb 2017 05:23:15
Maybe they all know Rafa will be off in the summer as Fatty is up to his old tricks again.

Lets face it the cause of the caustic culture at the club is down to Ashley. Rafa can only work so much magic.

22 Feb 2017 19:38:23
That telescope must reach a long way Des, even you can see it from all those miles away

Like you I never feel safe when Ashley is around.

23 Feb 2017 19:28:09
To be fair to the club they've improved a lot in terms of PR and communication with the club. I don't know how much you read into the toon des being in Australia, but the clubs have got much more involved with the community this season and so has Rafa, also with making NUFCTV free and posting full 90 minutes of games is great. I want to say the club is changing for the better and hopefully will stay that way but what threw me off was the January transfer window. But who knows maybe Ashley just wanted to wait to allow Rafa to spend big in the summer?

Ashley will know that the club will implode if he doesn't give rafa the tools required and the reigns to control this club. He knows that it will be the last straw for many of the fans, it won't just be Rafa who walks away, it will be the fans as well. I just don't know why Ashley would want that. Or maybe he just does like being the bad guy so he can make the headlines of newspapers.

{Ed001's Note - one thing you can never fault Rafa for is his work within the community. He is a genuinely nice guy who will go out of his way to help others when he can. I really hope he is given the tools he needs, as he deserves the chance to build.}

16 Feb 2017 23:42:07
Perez was our best player v norwich, he needs to carry it on the next few games, fed up of his inconsistency. Such potential and attributes to be a good number 10 but he needs to start doing it most weeks not once every month.

Agree2 Disagree0

17 Feb 2017 15:49:18
NOW it is push comes to shove and Perez and a few more need know there is no hiding place.

14 Feb 2017 22:52:34
Wolves the defensive performance was good but the attacking one wasn't, tonight it was the other way round

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Feb 2017 10:16:39
Woeful defending from the 2 players telling the rest of the team they need concentrate.

07 Feb 2017 17:01:13
90 points have been enough to get promotion for the last 4 seasons ( I know we can't rely on it) on that basis we need 28 points from 17 games that's just over 1.5 points per game we are currently recording over 2 points per game so at the moment we are on course HWTL

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Feb 2017 19:58:12
That's OK then and probably exactly what Ashley said to Rafa
Proof is in the pudding and injuries might just take their toll.

04 Feb 2017 10:59:39
Let's try and be positive I know it's hard when we're reading and hearing all the stuff in the media. let's get behind rafa and remind him why he stayed. Is Townsend really that good? Couldn't wait to get away.

Yes I know he had a clause in his contract but could've still stayed, McCarthy £16m. Never in a million years. We all know Ashley will not be held to ransom by anyone. Hopefully this will be resolved and rafa will stay? The players we have are more than good enough £60m worth. To get us promoted then we revalue in the summer and start again.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Feb 2017 08:08:02
Newcastle fans can only ever hope as long as Ashley is the owner and that in itself is a disgrace.

05 Feb 2017 09:10:23
The name Ashley scares anyone in football
He is still making money even after 2 relegations
The 30m from transfers in and out waiting to be spent will partly go to the tax man so any excuse for not buying is feeble and Rafa knows that.

Not until we get Krull, de jong, Rivierre, Thauvin and Saivet off the books is what I've been told.

26 Jan 2017 01:06:56
Wishful thinking as we know IF anyone cones in they will not walk straight into the team
Think Des is right a lot of dead wood still to move on

Some lovely football today. Hopefully a turning point for Perez.

We seem to be so prepared and adaptable under Rafa, the team seem to know when to press, when to sit back, when to keep possession and work opportunities to score, and when to go direct. But we're always disciplined, keep our shape, all the players seem to know their roles. I think we have a very good dressing room with a lot of team spirit and togetherness now. Oh how one man can transform a club.

23 Oct 2016 19:38:56
Ashley did but the wrong way.

21 Oct 2016 04:25:27
Pardew looking for Solace and turning on Ashley now saying what every fan knew
Disgrace he nodded his head and jumped as high as told by Ashley and agreed with everything he ssid and condemned Newcastle to be a 2nd rate club in fear of losing his job
Palace saved his career.

It was Ashley's way any manager will ba. lls would have walked.

19 Oct 2016 00:50:02
Quality night lads just got home, almost 6000 fans there amazing support. Fire first half from both teams but we dominated the second, Gayle is on fire.

Don't know what's wrong with Diame, he's good off the ball but with the ball he doesn't know when to run when to pass, had a few chances to score tonight and missed them.

Diame is poor Dummet Goufran and Anita are just OK and Perez is just wishy washy.
3/ 4 players needed in January including a playmaker for cover for Shelvey.
That is if we are serious about automatic promotion.

21 Oct 2016 11:15:29
At the moment I only see behind the striker as a position that needs strengthening.

24 Oct 2016 18:22:11

Wijnaldum, Townsend, Sissoko, Krul, Janmaat, Taylor, Coloccini, Cabella, Cisse, Riviere, De Jong, Thauvin, Saivet, Ameobi, Mbabu, Sterry, Armstrong
for a total of £85million

Sels, Gamez, Yedlin, Clark, Hanley, Lazaar, Hayden, Diame, Ritchie, Atsu, Gayle, Murphy

Wow bit more thorough there Vida thank you haha.

01 Sep 2016 08:18:48
We have lost some very good players. I will watch witb interest how sissoko, townsend and Wijnaldum fair this season. Was it the club or players at fault.

Raffa will be Mike Ashleys wet dream if we go up and give him a 30m profit on transfers. Will it make him change his approach if we do go up or will he expect Raffa to do a Leicester?
This has been the weirdest 6 months ever in my 34 years supporting the team.

01 Sep 2016 11:20:37
Hi Des, I think in January we may see another Striker and Winger and possibly a play maker, depending on results.
And the wages have been vastly reduced.

Disappointment after all the touted names of proven strikers we eventually got a seasoned older strike, but to be fair he needs a chance.

If we are promoted Rafa will want a war chest and hopefully Ashley will back him because as we have just seen the transfer fees have gone through the ceiling.

Bony and especially Remey (who's girlfriend told him she wants to stay in London and cause all the problems before) have shown their true colors NO Ambition.

01 Sep 2016 11:45:46
Well put art.

We need some experienced and a gritty sort of target man striker in daryl murphy, he will get stuck in.

Keith Downie from ssn reckons there will be a deal in place for alan judge to join in january.

I think its good business from the people from the top and hope they carry on to back rafa like they have, as at the moment we are a club on the up.

01 Sep 2016 14:30:31
JT They have no choice, it is like having a navigator, if you don't follow instructions you get lost, just like we have been for 9 + years.

31 Aug 2016 14:23:39
Would people be content if Atsu is our last signing providing only sissoko leaves? (if he even does)

31 Aug 2016 15:02:26
We have enough players barring injuries to go up

The Striker names linked are a joke, despite the 3 we now. have we needed a player like Bost etc, time will tell.
