I hope so too. BUT........why would we (and by we I mean Ashley) spend £7m on a left back to play second fiddle to Jose? He doesn't want to spend money on the squad unless we absolutely need the position filled, hence Pardew's confidence in bringing in a striker, so why would he spend £7m on a second left back that would mean that one of 2 very good, fairly expensive LB's sitting on the bench and Enrique leaving for nothing next summer? It just doesn't make sense. Saying that, Ashley knows nothing about football so it wouldn't surprise me :)

I heard this too but it actually makes a lot of sense as if we retain enrique an he refuses to sign new contract we can sell him to a club in europe in need of bolstering for 2nd half of campaign and get inflated price meanwhile pieters gets bedded in (because it makes sense it wont happen)

He's going nowhere.... no foriegn manager will sign him... they havent got the man management skills to work with disruptive influences...(ie) bellamy & manchini, Gullit and most of the toon team and chelsea team

Ed u got to remember with those stats that Bendtner in Arsenal have mostly got to play against the bad teams in the premiership and against even worse teams then that in the cups. Meaning that those stats cannot be compared to what he would do as a starter in Newcastle. I say that this would be a really bad buy for that money.

{Ed042's Note - Also have to remember we are not a top 4 side and are all mental if we think we can get better quality players than Bendtner and Obertan at the moment, both from top Premiership clubs, just because they dont set the world alight doesnt make them bad players, both only 22 as well, far from their peak.. know where you`re coming from mate but he`d be a good by I think, much better overall game aside from goals than what we have at the mo}

Do not know how you can say its a bad buy proven international striker at the age 23 played out of position to much at the gunners tall strong pacey forward that would do well in a black and white shirt

Would rather have Bendtner than Toivenen, knows his way to goal decent in the air and on the ground can see a solid 12-15 goals from him

Is bendtner's attitude not a bit poor though ED? One of these young lads who are completely out of touch with finacial reality I agree at the minute it could maybe be seen as a coup if we got him, much more likely to go to a german European football club than us so AP done well if we do sign him. Toivonen even though I've only saw him a handful of times would do well I think, seems hardworking which if you have a striker going through a bad patch is something you still want to see, bot give up which I think bendtner may be And enrique can go if he wants, if the young Dutch lad wants to come great

Bendtner has an ego, but its been blown out all proportion by the media at times.. if you hear the lad speak he is very confident and ambitious, but dont think the ego is as big a problem as its made out to be.. wages wise hes on approx 55K a week at Arsenal at the mo, i`d say we`d offer 50K tops}

You have read lies about Toivonen then Ed. He is very much a team player which he shows both in our national team and in PSV. Bendtner is not a team player and I can only imagine his reactions if AP put him on the bench for a game. I would rather see them spend 10 millions on fascilities then on Bendtner. We need a goal scorer who is a team player, like Henrik Larsson was in Celtics.

I actually think that Bendtner would be a fantastic signing for us .. Strong , quick very tricky and still only 22 with a massive point to prove that AW was wrong to let him go .. Very happy if we get him .. Just need Pieters in at LB and we are well sorted

Was thinking bendtners wages would be extortionate especially when we're operating on pennies, from what we're told anyway. any idea what ameobi's on with his contract extension? i hope if the 'we've spent the 35 million already' comment gets used again they aren't reffering to shola's new contract signing on fee

Even tho most of bendtners goals came against less strong opponents he was also scoring without a consistant run in the side so thtd even out tbf

Ed theres rumours around that we are set to sign Bendtner after the Arsenal match, any truth to this?
Also the person below pointed out we are favs to sign him on sky bet.

{Ed042's Note - Did show interest in the past week, wage demands could be a problem but not too much of a drop from what hes on currently to match our wage cap, we are strong favorites to sign him but odds are always altered by betting, hes set to announce his future over the next day or two, even IF we did sign him before Saturday I wouldnt imagine he`d play against Arsenal anyway being so close to the fixture, we are in the running for him thats a s definitive as it gets right now, toon keeping targets very quiet}

Would be a good fit for the no.9 shirt and i think given a chance and getting a run of games he could score a ton of goals.
Yeah he's got a bit of an ego but isnt that what you want? You want your strikers to be confident.

I agree id rather have a striker who is a little overconfident than one with a fragile level of self belief a couple of bad passes and they go missing in games i will be very happy with bendtner if he comes in and that takes us to 25 players so when xisco/Enrique moves on we can replace him with LB (Pieters) and our squad will be looking potentially very good (if they gel)

I'd take him, he's got a lot of good things about his game but like everything at this level it's about consistency, if he's given an extended run as a first choice striker i think he could prove to be an excellent signing for whoever gets him

Same i have him hes a proven intentional at the age of 23 gets played to much out of pistion for me at gunners big strong pace forward that would fit right in at newcastle

I'm pleased about this. He is totally committed and it is not his fault he has little pace but does create problems for defenders with his physicality and he really really really wants to play for the club and the fans.
At the end of Shearers last season he seemed to really step up and looked top notch, scoring for fun and first game next season he scored one and created the other in a 2-1 win against Wigan but got hammered by one of their defenders and ended up injured. Without that injury he would have shone from then on. If he is injury free at the moment I think he will do well next season.

Shola just like a bad penny,but also like a comfortable pair of slippers.

Shola is a comfortable pair of slippers made of bad pennies his problem is at time he seems to forget to take off the comfortable slippers andreplace them with football boots but honestly since we lost titus we dont have anyone else who can take a jestful slating

Not the best striker in the would looks like Bambi on Ice at times however gives 100% rather have a Shola than an Owen any day. Has been devoted to Newcastle since a kid so warrants the contract.

He's probably on pretty low wages anyway, what is the point in offloading him? We'd get f*** all for him so we might as well have him for backup/scoring against the Mackems.
