Been taking it all in today, rumour mill as random as ever with not much substance behind it...

Only true story today seems to be Coloccini being made captain... wouldnt go as far to say its a massive fan pleasing decision judging by the reaction but very few seem to have a problem with it, think it was fairly obvious it was going to be him... I do think if Steven Taylor had played all last season it could well have been him though, and in terms of the future, long term, think he should be, and will be...

In a related story, Joey Barton has been interviewed, pretty much giving Colo his support while still being led by his ego, saying in the same breath as his congratulations that if it wasnt for the contract issues he would have been in the running and could well have been made captain...

Now look, my opinion on Joey has changed a lot in the last year, before that I think like most I had lost all patience with a lad that seemed to be completely unaware or unappreciative of the privileged position he was in as a professional footballer, and had done some seriously crazy stuff that was only going to end him up in one place, prison

But credit where credit is due, he has proved almost everyone wrong in turning himself around and seems to have got back to concentrating on football and having a very good season last season with no discretions apart from the silly reaction in punching Blackburns Pedersen... knew himself that was very stupid and it didnt happen again, fair enough...

I think where I began to give him the benefit of the doubt was actually the first game against Wolves, where Karl Henry pretty much was on a mission to kick Joey up and down the park and get a reaction out of him... I remember laughing to myself thinking, I may well be about to witness Joey Barton actually murder someone in a minute, but it never happened, Joey laughed it off, used his head for once and didnt react at all, was actually in shock, and done a lot to regain some respect in a lot fo peoples eyes after that game I think...

Now for the downside, in stifling the red mist, Joey seems to be now channeling it into an ever growing ego and more so, constant verbals in the media either talking himself up or other people down... and what has fueled it somewhat is the fans in not liking the boards decision to close the doors to the media and tell them nothing... Joey seems to now have appointed himself chief spokesman for the club when all he says is opinion and not fact, cant be good in the long term for dressing room and club harmony...

Look fair play to the lad, I do understand his frustration at not getting a new deal, same time I understand why he hasnt, they wont offer four years, if it was two years with the option of a third, which is what was originally offered to him for those not in the full know regarding this issue, and he, and his nightmare of an agent would agree to it, it would have been signed a month ago....

That being said, and no offer on the table right now, I do have to give Joey a lot of credit for how he has handled it for the most part, is showing a lot of loyalty to the club, said he is not interested in jumping ship, will play out the season if thats his only option to stay, and will give his full on the pitch, admirable when you see players at a club like Arsenal showing no loyalty and a complete lack of respect to a manager and club that made them who they are...

Where my issue lies with Joey is this self appointed spokesman role he has undertaken, and his ever growing ego along with it... he has done an awful lot towards earning that contract he wants... in my opinion what he needs to do in order to truly earn it is have another very strong season on the pitch... how that was done last season, and how he will do it this is very simple, and applies to all footballers if they want to play consistently well... stay humble, shut up, and play football... if Joey does this, along with his conduct and loyalty, i d almost guarantee thered be a new deal waiting for him at the end of this season, maybe even January..

Yes they might of won the league cup they also got relegated? and brown and o'shea dont count they played like 10 games a season and dont deserve any medals

Agree1 Disagree0

Ye main hope of avoiding relegation is ba is from a side who finnished bottom of the league de ja vu

Agree2 Disagree0

Pretty sure you've bought about 5 or 6 players that got relegated, no prem experience, and some korean dude. good luck with that. smb

Agree1 Disagree1

Does it make a difference if the team, they played for got relegated, they were the stand out players in a team of 11, sounds like sour grapes to me, you can, t tell me you wouldnt love to have them in your team, ENGLISH and PREMIER LEAGUE EXPERIENCE, not some frogs who most people have never heard of. Were they bought of You Tube? SGB.

Mike ashley has changed the wording from the Fog on the Tyne, is all mine all mine , to the Frogs on the Tyne are all mine

Agree2 Disagree1

5 or 6 players that got relegated? 3 you mean Larsson, Gardner and Vaughan don't know where you got 5 or 6 from. plus they are good players. Gardner 10 goals in the premiership last season, Larsson, dead ball specialist, Vaughan voted Blackpools player of the season ahead of a certain C Adam. not exactly crap or some noname french lads is it. Jealous all over

Agree0 Disagree0

Totaly agree with the last comment are you saying that charlie adam is a bad player because blackpool got relegated

Fare play to Colo for all his hard work to get the armband because he was great for us last season.
These were my top 5 (after colo)to be our next captain:

1.Joey Baton.I thought they would end ala the comotion and extent his contract and give him the armband.

2.Shola Ameobi.Has been great since he joined in 2000 and I thought after all the waiting it would be time to give him it.

3.Jose Enrique. If they did give him it mabye it would have pursued him to stay but now it looks like he's going.

4.Steven Taylor.Another one how has been a great long servent to newcastle and he realy shown that he was good enough in the last 3 games.

5.Alan Smith.I now what you're thinking he was poor this season but I thought they would give him a fresh start and give him it.

Whilst the players that Sunderland have signed are pretty average, they are at last bolstering their squad. Whilst older players (NOT SOL CAMPBELL OR SEFKI KUCI) may seem unattractive as a business proposition, they can at least offer cover for the starting 11. We need to seriously start spending if were going to challenge in the Premiership next season.

This is all becoming an abs joke we arent bidding enough to bring players in we are not spending any of the carroll money they say it has gawn into wages even with carroll, kuqi, sol, nolan, of the wages probz soon be the same with smith best guthrie and routledge secondly why are we selling best if we are lacking in upfronters lovenkrands is crap ranger is getn released ameobi is getn to slow and just stumbles over the ball best scored 6 goals in 11 apps if im wrong correct me we brung in ba who failed his medical at stoke and has a leg problem we dont no if ben-arfa will be as good as he was same with goslin and i have a feeling goslin isnt as good as every1 thinks. we need another centre half to either play with colo or to be on the bench if taylor isnt performing Lb jose is as good as gone were not bringing in enough quality so we need a replacement for him riise is going to fulham for a medical today so that leaves m-bengue who wont sign cos hell feel he is only needed cos jose left neil taylor isnt prooven and all these other players from championshipp teams its just a bunch of lovenkrands and perches i think this is going to be it net year 4 - 5 - 1 and pardew says hes going to entertain with 1 player upfront sounds brilliant aye he must be living in dream land pardew is a push over hes not fiting for the money he needs hed be better just quiting and going to another team getn a manager who will fight for us pardew just turns over n gets his belly rubbed like a puppy ...

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Negative, negative, negative. MA is doing the right thing with wages, I suppose you would be happier if you were a Scouser paying £35m for AC, £20m for Henderson and paying Jovanovic/Cole over £100k a week...what a joke. Top players want CL or at the least European football why do you think LFC lost out on Clichy. Failing that they want to be in London or at a club with a famous pedigree. We have to re-build in the same way we did under Sir Bob Rob (RIP) spending wisely and building a team capable of challenging, we tried the spend at all costs route with Souness and ended up with Luque/Owen/Boumsong/Emre etc and finally relegation.

You are doubting HBA/Gosling/Ba before they have even started pre-season and as for Best, he scored 3 of those goals in one game against WHU the worst team in the league meaning he scored 2 in 10 games and 1 of those was against Birmingham who also went down so his stats don t stack up and anyway he has no pace, no skill, no strength just big flipper feet.

Besides MA has shown in the past that if needs be he will stump up for players. I am positive about what we have done so far and yes we need at least 1 if not 2 new strikers and a left back IF Jose leaves but Kadar and Williamson are good cover for the skipper and Tayls and we will have a team of quality to provide better football and better results next season.

Agree6 Disagree1

I have to admit im very worried at the minute. We have have 12 or 13 gd players but after that we have nothing. Pardew thinks we already have a good squad, which we cleary dont. I hink we have to realise that Ashley will not be giving
Pardew much money to bring players in.

I no there is big talk of forest superstar mcgugan, but they turned down a 4 mill bid last week from wolves and blackburn, would take 6mill which we would be unwilling to pay. forest i think are bulinding the team around him and will not sell. fantastic player little cocky at times, maybe rightly so

I am not sure why some Newcastle fans are do obsessed with spending the money from the Carroll sale? In my view we don t need to rush in like we did in the past and buy some big named forward just because there is an assumption that we need one? It is my view that Newcastle are doing things right (for once) I know Ashley has made mistakes, but who hasn t but credit where credit is due the club is stable, we are spending within our means and a realistic goal for us is to break the top ten. I also think that fans who say our squad is too small are wrong, is a massive red herring Everton seem to manage consistently every year with a reasonable sized squad and the other issue is that Newcastle need to start bringing in reserve and youth players which happened towards the end of last season particularly the young lad Ferguson showed a lot of promise and in my view there is no point having an academy if we don t try or bring players on into the first time. I am not concerned about loosing players like Barton and Enrique, there will always be other players out there e.g. not many people had heard of Tiote before he came to St James and I can imagine the majority of premiership team would like him in there first team. As for rumours Shane Long and Taylor to come to St James Park before the start of the season.

I don't care what anyone says but if I think selling Andy Carroll has only proved to be good business for Newcastle. When he played for Newcastle we always played on route Football which was hit the ball in the air and hopefully Andy Carroll will get on the end of it. This game was getting noticed from other teams so they knew what was expected. He was never in a million years worth £35million. We have 4 new players, Demba Ba who is a very good player, Yohan Cabaye who is French International so must be good, Sylvain Marvaoux who is also a player who looks good to me, and a youngster Abeid. Also all of these players speak French which will be good for the team spirit as Ben Arfa and Cheick Tiote also speak French. Also if Andy Carroll wasn't sold would we be having this excitement of even seeing new faces coming in? Fair enough 3 of the signings above were free agents but that's good business and Pardew has all ready stated he expects 2 more signings. Another comment people state is why was Kevin Nolan sold? Well that's because he wanted a 5 year contract, no wonder the club wouldn't give him one he is 28 now and we want a structure of young talent. Fair enough Mike Ashley may not be the best of owners but the image i'm getting from him is that he would like to build a squad like the Arsenal way, where he brings in young talent who do not cost too much. Some may argue these young players will be sold, but if they are good i'm sure we'll get a lot of money for them so we can bring in more young talent in. I think Mike Ashley has made it clear he doesn't want to be putting his own money into transfers anymore untill the club has repaid it's debts which are actually owed to him. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with that, would you give someone more money if they all ready owed you money. To say Mike Ashley is looking for a profit seems harsh to me as no club owners can seriously make a profit from owning a football club. For the first time in 4 or 5 years let's everyone fully get behind the squad which most do anyway, but I mean lets get back to where we used to be where we had 52,000 fans shouting and screaming for the pride of Newcastle, that will keep them mackem's down the road quiet for sure. HOWAY THE LADS, , KEEP THE FAITH

Believable9 Unbelievable1

How do you contain yourselves with all this excitement?
4 new players: Demba Ba "who is a very good player" (couldn't get his place for the bottom club)
Cabaye "who must be good" (why? cos he's an international? LOL)
Marvaoux "who looks good" (Eh?)
and a youngster.
The rest of the Premiership must be shaking in their boots.
Why is speaking French good for team spirit in Tyneside, how will they build a rapport with the fans? Most educated English people can't understand Tynesiders, never mind the French

Agree2 Disagree7

Most educated people can speak at least some French. You are obviously a makem, who struggles with basic English.
I would be worrying more about your over priced, average signings if i was you.
Wes Brown, hahahaha. John O'Shea, Ok at best. Wickham, could be good, could be shocking.
Col

Agree2 Disagree2

Another mackem lol klets go through their signings

oshea ( looked reasonable in a very good team and u lot gave a 30 year old a 4 year contract something that we werent stuipid enough to do with nolan)

wes brown ( hasnt played at all for man u recenntly and ah yeh you gave a 31 year old a 4 year contract lol)

david vaughan ( had the odd good game last season but nothing special and is 28 where as cabaye is 3 years younger and has proven his class agaisnt some of the best nat teams in the world)

connor wickham ( another unproven youngster goal to game ratio is nothing to shout about and as for marveux i think you will find that liverpool also wanted him so u cnat really say he looks good lol)

Kieron westwood ( good young keeper but has only played at championship level doesnt really have much on tim krul)

ji don wong ( wow he has scored 10 goals in the korean league he must be good lol)

Craig gardener ( had the odd good game but didnt look anything special)

seb larrson ( decent player but didnt really stand out in a team that got relagated)

i think overall this sums up that sunderland are signing has beens and could bes not proven players at their top of their game and ready to take newcastle to a top half finish at the least.

Agree2 Disagree0

God its funny when Mackems come here laughing at our signings..

Dong: Who?
Vaughan: Championship
Gardner: Championship
Larsson: Championship
Wickham: Championship and unproven [definitely worth 8m lmao]
Westwood Championship

I'm sure the rest of the Premiership are shaking in their boots about those too. 5 championship, 3 of them relegated, 1 unproven and one nobody had heard of until Sunderland were interested and suddenly he's the best ever.

{Ed020's Note - Not forgetting the solid John O'Shea and the man who's never injured...Wes Brown}

Agree4 Disagree0

Ironic.. Most Mackems reasoning for signing O'Shea and Brown is that "they won trophies with Man United".. Correction: Man United won trophies with them sitting on the bench watching.

Wickham is "the next big thing" despite only scoring 9 goals in the Championship which is very poor.

Dong is a "great prospect". f***ing hell, I could probably score goals in the K-League.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree as to the mackems talking sh*t , however i do have a gripe with the original post as in "ashley says he wont spend hiis money untill he gets back what he is owed from us" ITS HIS CLUB he is us, there's no owesy's on something you own yourself.... and nobody forced him to buy the club
