Grenier has said that although he doesn't know anything about bids for him he doesn't think he'll join Newcastle. We shouldn't make to much of this though because players say that all the time and still move anyway however it may mean that if we're unsuccessful in signing him then we make a deadline day attempt at Cabella.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What it means is that nobody is coming in. It has took us 28 days to get t de jong. Not a chance of us getting Cabella of Grenier before the deadline tomorrow. This is just another smokescreen of we just couldn't get them over the line whilst Cashley sticks the profits in Debenhams.

Agree0 Disagree0

You are dead right, Ashley as no intention no investing money in the club he just wants his money back. I am not excited about bringing home grown players through the ranks either as this will be just the same as all the other deals. designed to sell for as big a profit as possible and even if the likes of Armstrong/Aarons/Quinn etc come through they will be off to other (an not necessarily) bigger clubs, we are heading back to the Gazza/Waddle/Beardsley days. All Ashley is doing is using ST James' Park like a shop but instead of selling sports goods he is selling sports stars.
Pardew is working wonders and deserves great credit and support from us and I would not blame him if he left for a better offer just like I do not blame Cabs or anyone else that goes.

I recently spent an evening in the pub with a friend who happens to be a mackem. On tv was the semi final 2nd leg v man u. I expected man u to win, so was suprised at the result. The strange thing was that the only heated words were exchanged with another newcastle fan.
I gave the opinion that MA has managed to get nufc on a financial even keel just in time for the financial fairplay. we have no interest to pay on any debt. We make significant money on the transfer policy and the club is what it is. a well run business. Recent investment has given us 3 maybe 4 of the clubs best players, so money is being spent on progressing.
However, i'm told MA doesn't show enough ambition and we should be aiming for silverware every year, and that 'most newcastle fans' demand more investment, more silverware and more expensive players.
me personally, I enjoy the players we have. They play their hearts out, once you start introducing mega bucks, you get mega egos and the heart of the club becomes about shirt sales and marketing rights. Sure i'd love to see us win the league, but when there are 4 perhaps 5 of the best teams in europe also playing in our league it becomes highly unlikely.
and cabaye - best of luck to him, he earned the right to play at one of the worlds top teams, he gave 1000% everytimehe pulled on a black and white shirt.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We're not asking for 100s of millions to be spent, all we want is ambition to be shown by the board. We're not going to become successful by selling our best player once every two seasons, to be a top club, you have to ADD not REPLACE.

To change the stadiums name, to ban the local press, to hire joe kinnear (a hated person on tyneside) are just a few things to show that he really does not care about us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well as long as you are happy that's fine, supporting the balance sheets is very commendable, ME? I want to support a football team that is improving and aiming to play at the highest level and challenge for honours. Everyone to their own I suppose.

Agree0 Disagree0

I guess its what "fans" see as ambition. Imo Newcastle have to be realistic, we won't win the league or challenge for the top 4 unless some mega rich person buys the club. 5, 6, 7 position is about achievable and realistic. As for winning something, league or FA cup is achievable and realistic. Players will always come and go, I remember Newcastle selling, Beardsley, Waddle, Gazza and Cole. There will always be others who come in. The best thing Newcastle could do is spend money on coaching and scouting youth, developing a plan for steady progress. Loosing Cabaye is not the end of the world, he wanted to go and we got a good deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Everton have not spent " mega bucks " as you put it and they are in the mix nearly every season recently. That is down to them keeping their best players and replacing a sold player like for like.

Agree0 Disagree0

Everton do sell there big stars. Lescott was sold to Man City for a lot of money Everton signed Distan - the only likeness is that they are left footed. Rodwell was sold to Man City for a lot of money. Everton signed Gibson from Man U - the only likeness is they both struggle with injuries. Everton still haven't replaced Fellani, who was sold to Man U for a lot of money. The difference between Everton and Newcastle is not necessary about transfer activity but rather Manager, coaches, youth academy being much more productive than ours

I'd like to see the Ameobi brothers start on Saturday, they will give us passion and hunger, Shola always turns up against Sunderland, Sammy was decent last night. Either Sammy or Marveaux would be good choices on the left wing. Benny was excellent in the hole against norwich, I'd like to see him again in that position on Saturday, with a free role

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Change that, Luuk de Jong should start!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep I agree pitch him straight in, if he is knackered after 60 -70 mins then take him off, but don't just bring him on for 15 -20 mins at the end

Agree0 Disagree0

De Jong ain't played in ages is he fit?
Pardew will Never Start with him that's for sure

Agree0 Disagree0

Jtoon why the Ameobi brothers? that's like starting with 9 men. Shola is carp and sammy no better.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sammy was good last night?

Another transfer window and another month of the doom mongers to crawl out from under the rocks, you know if you spent half the time supporting your club rather than moaning and talking poop we've had a good season so far considering you lot were hurting ppls ears with talk of relegation, cabaye was always going to go deal with it and wwell see who we sign, sit moaning we never buy I think we've signed some pretty decent players since ashley took over but I forger you wise suppirtive fans won't ve happy unless were wasting 30-40m just to sign someone jokes of fans

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Andy everybody is entitled to an opinion weather you agree with it or not. Yes we in a good position much like 2 season ago. Nobody is asking for 30/40 million pound to be spent just that the club shows some ambition that matches most fans. Cabaye did want to leave no doubt but who can blame him when the owner's only concern is to milk the club and sit comfortable in mid-table. Do you not want challenging for a top 4 spot or maybe win a cup? Or are you happy the way Cashley runs the club. In my opinion I would say you are in the minority.

Agree0 Disagree0

Haven't seen a fan wishing the club to waste 30-40m on someone, why would they?
So fans want our club to sign players to improve the team who doesn't want that?

Agree0 Disagree0

Andy, 8th is at least where this club should be for it's size? Good season? It's been average really, yes we've best Man U, Chelsea spurs but losing the derby and an FA CUp match to Cardiff is not good enough. We're not asking for Titles or 50m being spent every summer, we simply want an owner who cares about the fans, and has ambition.

Agree0 Disagree0

Andi has some valid points but maybe expressed in wrong manner. we have to be realistic and realise its never going to be the case under mike that we spend 25 to 30 million every window. spent over 20 last january but that was left over from sales etc. yes cabaye gone but he is replaceable and if can be replaced cheaply then why not. mike isn't a football man and that's where he lacks. he's a business man and his credentials can't be questioned in that area. unless your alan sugar or richard branson. if we bring in grenier or cabella for example then we've replaced cabaye and got a striker on top so not a bad window. 1 out 2 in. always a plus.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with you to a point Durham mag. to a degree but if our owner showed some ambition we wouldn't have to keep replacing players and hoping that the replacement can fill the boots of the likes of Cabaye. We need to be building a team around our better players not selling them. We will get nowhere like that other than where we currently stand. Saying all that where we are is where Cashley wants us.

I for one wish yohan cabaye all the best at psg he's been absolutely brilliant for nufc n a joy 2 watch just a shame our ambition didn't match his! Support the team n not the regime

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Our ambition matches everyone's it us the Owner who's only ambition is to cement a regular Income of 25m a season from Newcastle which dies not allow a reasonable amount to he wiener from income on players that us the problem and it will only get worse not better
A mid mid table team that wants to screw everyone when buying over and sell to the highest bidder and re inventing the word quality to cheap just like SD

I don't get how it is so hard for to sign good young players. Obviously the transfer fee is a stumbling block constantly but its an easy sell. We have no ambition so their is no pressure on the player to do well and if he does play really well he will get a dream move to a club with ambition and a pay rise to boot. No brainer for me.

Anyone else think that whilst we're talking to Lyon over Grenier that we should also grab Gomis for a few million?
