Couple of players I wouldn't mind seeing us bid for; ST Benteke or Lukaku - both still young and Lukaku seems unwanted at Chelsea with teams like West Ham, Fulham and West Brom being linked with him surely were in with more than a decent shout of getting him. CB Alderweirld - young and already good, I get the feeling we will need a more experienced leader type though and not sure he fits the bill so maybe someone like Shawcross? Maybe sees a route out since Pulis left and can't imagine him being on huge wages at Stoke so probably fits our wage structure although not sure how much Stoke would want for him. CM Erikson - I know there's some huge names linked with him from England and Germany but a bid to come to a club where he would be first choice (especially if Cabaye leaves) surely has to be appealing to him. you just never know. Two or three GOOD first teamers plus a few good youngsters added to the squad we already have minus a few outs (Harper, Simmo, Williamson, Gosling, Obertan) and we shouldn't be looking far off a top 6 side (hopefully) also if Tiote was to do one then a bid for Blaise Matuidi would be nice :) pd

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Keep believing but we are light years behind top teams in the Premiership & Europe different planet

Sad fans just have to get on with it and accept the c. p coming out of Ashley and his clowns

Mediocrity name of the game for NUFC

Agree0 Disagree0

I still think we need some more english players with experience though. Joleon Lescott would be nice, we have more of a chance in huddlestone or someone like that, eriksson is out of our price range. Lukaku wants to go to a club playing CL, so we should go for Aubameyang. We need a
proper winger as well so ince or Sinclair.

JMW

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with lescott, good player but I suspect to old for Ashley's liking and no doubt on huge wages at city, I'm a huge fan of Shawcross so would love to see him at nufc, would also love to see once here but I suspect he will end up at liverpool, although ince senior did say he should move to a club where he will get ample game time so he mite see us as an option, here's hoping :) pd

Agree0 Disagree0

Lukaku and Benteke would cost more than 20 million each, plus they would be wanted at Champions League clubs.

May as well be realistic.

I reckon we'll finish in the top 10 next season, pardew has got to prove himself. Although we had a terrible season, he has shown that he can get us playing some good football and can get us into the top 6. there's no such thing as "flash in the pan" or "one season wonder" Give the new boys time to settle, give pardew some time, get behind the team and I have every faith we will get top 10.

You know what they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. that's what happened to Moyes and Fergie. If we do get top 10 next season, then we can start to build on that. and you never know, by the end of that 8 year contract we could be in the champions league. Not going to get my hopes up too much though.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He had all season to get us into the top 10. Good football did you watch any of our games last season. The only reason he hasn't had the bullet is Ashley doesn't want to bankroll a new manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

After the last 38 games, of which we lost half of them, you think top ten next season, well how do you arrive at that. have you been chewing magic shrooms.

Agree0 Disagree0

Only have to win 2 games more than last season to finish top 10 nothing good about it

Agree0 Disagree0

Good football in 11/12

Agree0 Disagree0

The first three games are make or break I reckon.

If we can get some easy games at the start and win them, it could give us some momentum to crack on.

I know we beat Tottenham in the first game last season, but the writing was pretty much on the wall, they played us off the park, and it was obvious we were not good enough.

We need a strong start, not just a win, but a convincing win.

No more picking teams pockets. Actually winning a game and being judged to have deserved it. How nice does that sound.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bloke comes on here with a bit of optimism and what happens? The usual moaners come out of the woodwork and try to shoot him down. As he points out, just a small improvement could lift us well up the table. A bit of good luck on injuries and some strengthening and top six would not be totally out of the question. Now let's all enjoy the summer, get excited by the transfer window and get behind the team next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its called an opinion I thought. If you don't to want hears others opinions don't post comments. By looking at the comments it seems the moaners as you put it or the realist I think are in the majority. Walk blindly behind Pardew and let's see if your opinions change soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank you 7th post! made my day! lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely agree Moaners are REALISTS

The sheep supporting Pardew & personic Ashley are the same as before last season and LOOK what happened

These amatures running this club will never get this club back to 5th they are hopeless. So fans need accept this and stop dreaming.

Agree0 Disagree0

Some posters seem to mistakenly believe that all us optimists are blind supporters of Pardew. Not so. Managers come and go, but it's the team that I support. The influence and importance of managers is over-rated, IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

They say that a human being shares 95% of their DNA with a daffodil. Well the self-styled 'realists' who try to browbeat the optimists seem to have shared their brain power with a daffodil as well, and the daffy got most of the brain cells. But even a 'realist moaner' can be taught to think if given a little help along the way. Perhaps. So here's a little quiz for you.
!. What do the initials NUFC stand for? Is it a) No Use Football Club; or b) Newcastle United Football Club; or c) something else?
2. Who OWNS NUFC? Is it a) the fans; or b) just the 'realists' or c) somebody else?
3. Who decides whether Pardew stays or goes? Is it a) the fans, or b) just the realists, or c) somebody else?
4. If Pardew is sacked, who chooses the next manager/head coach? Is it a) the fans, or b) just the 'realists', or c) somebody else?
5. Who will they consult before appointing the next manager? Is it a) the fans, or b) just the 'realists', or c) whoever the f*** they like?
6. Who are they most likely to appoint? a) Jose Mourinho? b) Rafa Benitez? c) Martinez? d) Joe Kinnear? e) Tony Pulis? f) Alex Ferguson? g) somebody else?

And while you're sucking the end of your pencil, here are the answers:
c, c. c, c, c, very possibly Pulis. And that's also called an opinion, and if YOU don't like it, then lump it and stop trying to silence the true, hopeful fans. Take your misery to the Samaritans.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the first answer is B. Am I right or am I just a realist? The rest of your answer are just yopur opinion. A lot of p**s and wind in that completely pointless rant. If Newcastle fan didn't turn up then they would be force to change. So regardless what you say the fans have the real power.

what are peoples teams for 13/14 if we sell (I'm being a bit drastic but if it did happen) cabaye, tiote, coloccini, ben arfa?
Mine is:

GK Krul
DR Debuchy
DC M'Biwa
DC Lescott 5million
DL Santon
DM Diame 3.5million (release clause)
DM Huddlestone 8million
MR Aubameyang 11million
AM Sissoko
ML Sinclair 5million
ST Cisse

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Pretty much agree with that team! Defo think we should go for huddlestone! {Ed004's Note - Don't get why original posters reply to their own posts}

Agree0 Disagree0

Owned!

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't need Huddlestone or Diame.

How many centre midfielders do we need.

I would be prone to getting rid of playing any defensive midfielders at all.

We have players like Marveaux, we should be utilising talents like that.

We have players in the Squad that could play some really good football.

Top clubs do not play 2 DMs, if any at all.

We should use Sissoko as our DM, and only because he is talented going forward, like Toure at Man City. A player like Sissoko is a two for one deal.

Sissoko as our only DM, with Bigi as understudy would do.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like to see this:

. Krul.
Debuchy MYM Lescott Santon
. Anita. Sissoko.
. HBA. Cabaye. Ince.
. Cisse.

Subs: Elliot, Taylor, Haidara, Bigi, Marveaux, Gouffran, Remy

Agree0 Disagree0

Its only too many midfielders if we kept tiote and cabaye. but diame has a release clause and we should snap him up before its too late.

huddlestone, diame, anita, bigirimana, sissoko

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree to above post, if its 2 or3 just take in tandem if one goes one sits, just talk to each other! Years ago the best midfeilders were called box to box, job discription is just that. Centre mid should be strong in both boxes, Robson / kean perfect examples. Sissoko poss another

Agree0 Disagree0

So original poster puts his team up for 13/14 then pretty much agrees with it in a reply post. My god, how daft can things get.

Agree0 Disagree0

I just think huddlestone's a good player and would be a good replacement for tiote.

Agree0 Disagree0

''Top clubs do not play 2 DMs, if any at all''

i would think bayern munich and bvb are pretty big clubs and the champions league is a pretty big game and both of those teams played 2 DM in that game

Agree0 Disagree0

LOL. But huddlestone would be a good signing if Tiote left.

The papers (Express for one) are saying Fulham are looking at signing Darren Bent from Villa for just £4m. I know he's over the age policy but I'm sure he would be a good buy for Newcastle at that price? He would definitely strengthen the squad and add competition for places.
I'm not sure how much he is curretnly on at Villa but I think he would consider a wage cut for a move especially with next season being a World Cup year?

I read a very good article in the local paper yesterday. It was copied from the MAG. It was pretty much saying what we already know about Pardew but it did make me wonder who actually picks the players we sign. Is it Graham Carr or Pardew.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Pardew only here now as if fatty got a new manager he would have 2 give him some cash. pardew will take us down next season!

Agree0 Disagree0

I read the article on the Mag website (I think it was originally on someone's Blog) and agree it is very interesting. It seems strange that Graham Carr is scouting players such as Cabaye, Marveux, Cisse, Anita etc who all thrive on a passing style if play (and are all of a smaller build) yet last season, Padrew persisted with the long ball tactic?

This blog/article was written before the club confirmed Pardew's safety, but it did state that either Pardew or Carr had to go (I think most fans - if not all - are fans of Carr's work, so I think it was more of a 'get Pardew out argument' but one I still agree with).

Agree0 Disagree0

It's very rare to hear of Pardew going off scouting - I think he was once spotted in Holland watching AJAX? Negotiations are done by Llambias and Charnley, so people who blame Pardew for signing rubbish are off the mark. This arrangement is common nowadays all over Europe, and that's why "managers" are now called head coach.

Agree0 Disagree0

Who said we signed rubbish? I only said that who picks the signing purely down to a football reason. We have technically gifted players and we play long ball football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just my humble opinion, of course, but I think Obertan, for one, is rubbish. And a whole host of people on here have been calling Cisse and Tiote rubbish, for another two (I don't agree). But quite a few of Carr's choices have failed, so far, to make the grade. My point was that Pardew doesn't do the scouting or the signing, and doesn't have control of the budget, but seems to take all of the flak. We have some gifted players, but not enough, and it's interesting to look at how many games our best players missed during the season (see Wikipedia). We relied far too much on the likes of Perch - too lightweight for CD - Williamson, Simpson, Gosling and Jonas - not exactly rubbish, perhaps, but not what you'd call 'technically gifted'. And I don't remember many games when we put out our 'best' players all together.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do the OPTA stats show which player (s) opt to play long balls? My guess is Cabaye and the weaker defenders.
