With sissoko, surely Toulouse wouldn't keep paying his wages to not play AND go for a free in the summer or is that just my logic?

Widespread reports in Portugal today, by prominent websites O Jogo and A Bola, detail that Newcastle are after Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Just two points off the relegation zone and after a home defeat to Reading, Newcastle truly appear to be attacking this transfer window with gusto and a move for the Sporting Lison hitman is the first time they have moved their radar from Ligue 1.

Newcastle have reportedly been scouting Van Wolfswinkel for some time and the Dutch striker is on a list of possible reinforcements for Alan Pardew's side.

Alongside Newcastle, Serie A teams Fiorentina and Napoli are also tracking the 24-year-old striker, according to Portuguese websites today.

O Jogo add that Newcastle will have to pay 12 million euros if they wish to secure Ricky van Wolfswinkel from struggling Sporting Lisbon.

What is going on with this club? Will we be signing a french goalkeeper next, that will make the squad complete (french be or see team), with the exception of a few! What happened to fielding a team of Geordies (was it Shepherd or Hall who said that in Keegans days!!!). We will soon be running out to the french national anthem. Soon local lads like Ameobi won't be able to get into the team (not the best example of local, but you know what I mean)!! Totally disgusted, can Graham Carr not scout anywhere other than France or does Llambias only get airmiles or nectar points (whatever the french equivalent is) from there. Ed your thoughts please! {Ed001's Note - nothing wrong with buying the best priced talent out there, no matter where they are from. It just needs the academy to step up now, so that it can provide the Geordies to compliment the players brought in.}

Believable2 Unbelievable4

Me for one agrees totally with ed001is there no satisfianing some people last week they were complaing about the lack of signings look it makes sense .Man you are going to sign a young Englishman for 15mil who's got no prem experience we've hopefully might have 4 players in for roughly the same price .

Agree4 Disagree0

Does it matter where a player is from providing he's good. The comment regarding Ameobi I hope it's not intended the way it reads. We've moved on from the 70s {Ed001's Note - I was hoping he meant just that he is not a very good player!}

Agree3 Disagree0

Football in this country is behind Europe when it come to youth football, been well documented. Until that's sorted the team of geordies will have to wait.

Agree1 Disagree0

Agree abit, but English clubs want far too much for their talent, would of like to see ince from Blackpool but they want 6 mil hughes from derby the want 5 mill plus. And Zaha looking to be 10 mil plus. With sammy he needs to gain more experiance should be out on lone, not good enough to be in our first team

Agree0 Disagree0

So your not pleased with the scouting and signings of absolute gems of your cabayes and Ben arfas who are potentially now worth 20m. We potentiallly have one of the best scouting networks in France in the premier league. Are you not happy? To get montpellier captain, 23 years old.for just 6m, that's a bargain!

Agree4 Disagree0

I agree mate, but as long as dipping (swimming) into the French market helps us avoid relegation and kicks us on nxt season then so be it. We wouldn't be able to
compete signing the likes of zaha, sterling etc due to silly prices and silly wages

Agree0 Disagree0

The real reason that we haven't got many youngsters coming through is because our academy is producing absolute rubbish and needs an overhaul.
The further away Sammy is from the first team the better he is shocking and I find it rather embarrassing that he has played for our first team.

Agree1 Disagree1

The days when you just had to shout down a mine shaft for a centre-forward have long gone, mate. It's a big world and we need the best players we can get, wherever they're from.

Debuchy, M'Biwa, Sissoko, Haidara, Gouffran and Ricky Van Wolfswinkel will be the signings this window. Can't help but think, if this had all been done in the summer, we'd be right in the top 8...

Believable8 Unbelievable2

Take a lot more than that to get you in the top 8

Agree1 Disagree3

Yeah and all players eligible for europa league rather than having to pick just one or two.

Since we have signed Yanga-Mbiwa.... I was thinking we could play 3-2-3-2. Now I know that playing 3 at the back is risky... looking at Wigan etc etc but Steven Taylor when on form is excellent and always gives 100% for us. So I was thinking Krul, Saylor, Yanga Mbiwa, Coloccini (C) then in the 2 CDM roles I would put Tiote and Anita. Cabaye at CAM Marveaux at LAM and Ben Arfa at RAM. Then up from Gouffran and Cisse... but I'm not sure Gouffran is the type of player that will support Cisse becoz as we all know Cisse is a goal poacher.. not a target man. Now some of you will be going where the f is Santon and Debuchy? Well I was thinking that against the top 4 and teams who are very effeective down the wings... we could replace Gouffran with Debuchy and Santon with Marveaux. then put Debuchy at RAM and Santon at LAM this would allow Ben Arfa to play a CF role in front of Cabaye but behind Cisse free to roam and use his flair. This would be very good as the back 3 would be solid, then Debuchy and Santon would get back and get forward as much. Against the weaker sides, we must keep possession effectively to allow Marveaux and Ben Arfa in those wide areas to thrive, and when any of the sides we play does attack us, we must hit them on the break like we did last season against West Brom, that was excellent football! We could rotate this squad a lot if the projected players were to come. Sissoko in for Anita as well which would literally be an incredible side. Next season I don't think we will have a set starting 11 which will help us in terms of fatigue. that's all guys... what do you all think? JoeyNUFC98

Believable0 Unbelievable11

Can't afford to start experimenting now should not leave the back helpless. Maybe a 4231 formation would be better :

i hear collo stayin, for me I wasnt to bothered if he went was cracking last season but this season a big flop. how can he focus all his attention on football when his wife and kids have gone back to argentina and this is showing so far.hes not been the leader we have had in previous seasons i'd love to see cabaye as captain but then mite have an even bigger impact on collo tricky situation.

Believable2 Unbelievable5

Rubbish.

Agree5 Disagree2

I think we should all be glad he is staying our situation would be a lot worse if he left. we would be right up a certain creak without a paddle! If he does go in the summer due to personal reasons the he should go with our blessings he has been fantastic for us over the years!

Lewis

Hows it rubbish he been ran around all season not just williamsons fault

I can't believe how cheeky San Lorenzo are. Apparently they tried to take Colo on loan from Milan years ago but were unwilling to pay any sort of fee. Do they realise how this professional football malarkey works?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I heard their next target is Vincent Kompany.

They cannot pay Man City any money, but Mansour has been offered a free drink at the club bar. {Ed007's Note - But they had to bring their own ice.}

Ronaldo for a boot bag with San Lorenzo's crest on it. Second hand.

Bafetimbi Gomis is out of conract in the summer, surely this is the sort of player we should be chasing tying down for next season or getting him at a bargan price now, he is a provem goalscorer and would fit perfectly into the premiership

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Just a thought. There just might be other, bigger clubs willing to give him a trial...

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Jan 2013 16:04:33
Coloccini is staying put, it's official

Believable3 Unbelievable2

No it's not. San Lorenzo have confirmed they will not be signing him but he still wants to leave. This could go on for a while as if we were to cancel his contract (which I still think is highly unlikely) he could go anytime in the season.

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Jan 2013 16:00:20
interesting who leaves now harper, xisco, simpson all out of contract in summer all on good contracts

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's beginning to look as though Llambias has finally seen the light and set about strengthening the first-team squad instead of looking for cheap prospects. If he keeps on like this I can see a big clear-out of second-raters this summer (Simpson, Williamson, Perch) and loads of kids shipped out on long loan (Fergy, Sammy, Tav, Abeid, Amalfitano).

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jan 2013 15:53:49
Still think we need a striker, if cisse doesn't find form whos gunna score, others will chip in with a few, but we need some one knockin them in regularly to stay up and for the big push next season

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Van wolfswinkel?

23 Jan 2013 15:24:06
panic buys are a big mistake when the club needing strengthening was in the summer as most fans new the squad was wafer thin mr pardew and mr ashley are bricking themselves as they didn't see this coming and were not expecting a relegation battle if the team don't get nothing at villa and are then losing at home it will be weird to see how all these foreigners will understand the 50,000 geordies booing them difficult times ahead

Believable4 Unbelievable2

If your going to boo I would prefer that you stay at home and boo at the radio/tv.
Not sure that the signings are panic buys due to the fact we have been scouting most of the players we are signing for over a year. It just so happens that they are available now, at prices we can afford. The fact that we are in a sticky position in the league, may have given Ashley a nudge to get some bodies in, but they are not panic buys.

Col

Agree2 Disagree0

Trying to be civil... A. I think 'foreigners' well understand boos and B. most of the players we are buying have been long-term targets. its not as if we're getting them at stupid prices or anything.

HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY SPIN THE EXCITING STUFF THAT'S HAPPENING NEGATIVELY?

Agree1 Disagree0

How can you say these are panic buys. We have already confirmed two excellent defenders who we have been after since we'll before this season started and hopefully signing sissoko who again we've been linked with for a while now. The other two who are having medicals will be coming in as squad players for competition. Yes we still need another striker but still a week left so let's wait and see. And just a little fact, to date we have spent a quarter of all the money spent in the premier league by teams this window

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jan 2013 14:23:49
See a lot of names but not a lot of quality.
Colo and Ben Arfa both unhappy, Ba gone.
If Ba to be replaced with a PROVEN goalscorer it would cost at least £20m which MA is not going to pay.
Therefor he is looking in the bargain basement in hope of a lucky bag. Were lucky with Ba, will luck hold out ?

Believable1 Unbelievable4

Keep up, lad. Two names mentioned as possibles: Darren Bent £13m; Van Wolfswinkel £10m/e12.5m. Both proven goalscorers. Also being bandied about: Hooper £8m-ish; Danny Graham £5m max. Any of these would be big improvement on Strolla. My bet is on someone not yet in the frame - Bony, perhaps?

For once, i'll be able to go to bed at;;]]; 9pm on deadline day and not worry about if nufc are going to sign anyone.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

We'll leave that to Villa and Harry hijack in the last chance saloon.

Ed - If we were to sign Sissoko this transfer period, would we receive hims tight away or only in summer? is this his own choice? {Ed001's Note - no, it depends on if he signs a pre-contract or if you buy him from his club.}

23 Jan 2013 00:17:14
newcastle last signing will be sissoko i'm glad to get the players on board, but come on we need a striker gouffran plays behind the striker or left or right in 4-3-3... should go for graham hooper or bent that will bring spending to 20mil and have 5 top players, example henderson 20mil, downing 20mil, carroll 35mil, so ashley going to make a massive profit in the summer if we stay up bcoz we sell ben arfa 20mil, cabaye 20mil, tiote 18mil, santon 8mil, and krul 12mil,

Believable0 Unbelievable5

Howay man we can moan all month because we sign nobody and the one day we should be happy about new players through the door we already have one who is bitching about losing players in the summer or that we still haven't bought enough. wind ya neck in mate

Agree7 Disagree0

So on your theory we are going to bring in the players we needed in the summer now and then sell our best players in the summer. So what is the point of this outlay to weaken the team again the summer? Completely pointless.....

Agree3 Disagree0

Tiote 18 million ya joking do you mean 1ยท8 million he is rubbish now !

Agree6 Disagree1

Tiote 18m, krul 12m did you have milk on your wetabix or extra strong cider god man have you watch a game recently if all the player's were that good then why are newcastle fighting relegation before you say injury's on Saturday there were only two player's missing from the starting line up (tiote, Ben arfa)

Agree2 Disagree0

Simple question: how do you know Sissokho will be our last signing? How do you know we're not going to sign a striker? Do Ashley, LLambias and Pardew confide in you? Thought not.
