Mackems lose 1-0 in extra time to Brighton,
Looks like they are putting in an early run for relegation.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I thought we had some whingers claiming to be nufc fans but just popped across to SAFC rumours and I have say their whingers are way out in front tonight.

Agree2 Disagree0

Mackem here, to be fair to brighton they have started brilliant in the championship and are high on confidence, our lads confidence is low after getting beat off you lot, not reading too much into this brighton result, but on both our clubs, we both desperate for a top striker each and a natural left back each, if we don't get either I can see both teams struggling all season. but we do have 36 games to left to play.

Agree2 Disagree0

Maybe if sunderland didn't spend £8m on a untested youngster they could have bought someone like cissoko.

Agree0 Disagree1

It was bruces tactics, he played 4-5-1, gyan was on the bench, he didn't even start with wickham or dong-won, tactically he doesn't have a clue, he proved that against you lot

Anyone else think Maiga is nowhere near worth £9 million?

If it wasn't a premiership club doing the bidding, it would be £1 - 3 million. At the most.

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Don't think you will spend 9m on one person

Agree0 Disagree0

Precisely.

Weather you like what ashley is doing or not can anyone answer how ashley has took 9 month to secure a top class striker and a left back? He is a billionare and got 35 mil for carroll NINE months ago now come on what's his game? Is there any defending him with these facts? If so I am open to hear it please tell me

Believable2 Unbelievable2

There is some defending considerin we sold carroll on 31st jan n its only august. i wud make that jus under 8 month

Agree1 Disagree2

We have brought in Ba so we have the same number of strikers we had prior to AC departure.This is not defending MA its recognising the facts.

Agree2 Disagree0

Ok i see your p
oint but do you honestly think ba is ac's replacement? why didnt liverpool just wait 7 month and ge ba on a free and save themselvs 35 million?

Agree1 Disagree0

Ashley paid over 100m for club with huge debts .ground owned by council so cannot get loans just trying to recoup some of his outlay before he starts to spend

Agree0 Disagree1

Or sell

Agree1 Disagree0

Cus carrolls English so he must be worth 5x as much as normal players. Everyone knows England players are so amazing that they did so well internationally and everyleague has an englishman in it. Lol.

Ive been a huge fan of this site all over the summer and love the banter and rumours that come in but jesus christ what have the club got to do to make people happy Stop wining nd support what we have got (which is a good strong team) Granted we need a new left back and a striker but pardew nows that and so does the fat man. Everyones getting on pardews back saying hes a lier nd all this nd a shyte manager nd no backbone. ok so explain this to me:
1. weve signed 5 players so far this window (all very good players, 1 french international, 1 with prem experience nd played mint at the hammers last season, obertan been said to be the next zidane and lots of young potential and alot of pace and talent)
2. got rid of some of the want aways (campbell, xisco, routledge, nolan (whos looking crap fr WH) and enrique who didnt want to be here)
3. hes NEVER said were going to deffinately sign a new left back and a new striker. hes always said there looking and hoping to bring to people in (which they are currently doing)

What im trying to say is people are on his back far to much. if weve got such a rubbish squad how come we havnt conceded a goal this season and have 4 points out of six and not give arsenal any clear cut chances (such a rubbish squad like)

people are saying that were not going to bring in a left back anymore because pardew said if we get someone in its going to be tough to stop ryan taylor from playing THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT WE ARE NOT SIGNING A LEFT BACK That means he is praseing ryan for the way he has played in the last 2 games out of position and played really well. and the kid deserves it

give pardew a break wait until the transfer window closes and judge him then when we have 2 new signings a left back and a striker. hes a good manager and is good and forming a team give him a chance nd stop saying hes a puppet its not helping the team at all hes our manager, ashleys our owner DEAL WITH IT even if you dont like them back the team that youve loved all your life and keep backing them no matter what

Ed what do you think m8? tell me if im wrong

NUFC 4 EVER

{Ed042's Note - I do think Pardew is doing a decent job. I do think the team has improved without doubt. I think more so along with youngsters that have made the step up we now have a decent squad, which we havnt had in a long time. Theres no question we need a left back and a striker, but im willing to reserve judgement and give the benefit of the doubt until the window closes. I think we will sign the players. If we dont I would be very disappointed. But as I said until then im reserving judgement. Mike has done a lot on the business end that I approve of, has made a lot of football mistakes in the past, some catastrophic ones, but I do think since relegation there has been some smarter moves made. I used to hate him with a passion but am currently giving one last chance to prove the doubters wrong. Hope my faith is rewarded and we can look forward to a very promising and productive season}

Believable5 Unbelievable1

If you happy paying over 30 quid a game to watch what i have seen in first 2 games ye easy pleased everyone knows survival is the aim but the football is poor if a striker is not brought in trouble is just around the corner the team that got relegated did so by drawing to many games wins are what is needed and ameobi and ba will def not score 20 goals even between them

Agree3 Disagree2

Obertan the next Zidane? Really?
I suppose Shola is the next Messi too.

Agree3 Disagree0

Bring in a quality left back and a striker - then I'll be happy. There's no point pretending. This is what we need. We've had 2 decent games..plenty more to go.

How much is it for Maiga? And how much for Teteh Bangura who is clearly a better player? 1/3 of the price.

Sochaux are trying to hold us for ransom. For a player who is barely better than what we have. £9m. Joking. There are other teams in Europe with good strikers.

Agree2 Disagree0

Ok then yea all your points look all nice and rosey there but why the hell wont he spend the money we have on quality replacements for carroll and jose? how come he always offers 3 million less than they are valued at? why does it look worryingly clear that he is pocketing profits from our top players and not re investing like promised? all he has done is use the nolan money so far

{Ed042's Note - All good questions mate, i`ll leave it to other posters to respond. Interested in your opinion on this, if we sign a good LB and striker does it matter how much we spend? do you think the team and squad is better than it was last season?}

Agree0 Disagree0

The reason we wont spend the money, that the clubs are asking, for on replacement players is down to the fact that everyone knows we are desperate for a left back and a striker, and also know that we have got a substantial amount of money to bank roll a transfer, therefore prices of players have been inflated and both pardew and the board know this, which is why they are haggling over the price. End of the day Pardews got nothing to do with transfer fees and wages, hes stated this himself all he does is identify suitable players and it the clubs job to get them over the line.

while i am willing to wait till the end of the transfer window to make my final judgement, the fact of the matter remains that we have known enrique was leaving and have always needed a replacement for carrol, and plans should have been in place along time ago.

I am not criticising the clubs transfers so far either, as from what i have seen of the players so far none of them have been poor. havent seen much of ba, marveux or abeid, or gosling for tht matter (he did look good for the time on the pitch at SOS) but i will be watching the Scunthorpe game and hoping to see some flair.

I also think it is important to identify the increase in the youth quality that are coming through and again look forward to see what they are capablke of in the next few seasons.

All in all i feel this is the season that counts for us. not for one minuted do I think we will go down, and i feel the team is strong enough to push for mid table. however also feel that with a solid left back, and striker definately, and maybe sum cover at centre back i feel we could push for a higher position this year and we will continue to improve year in year out.

Hello ED, I was wondering if you could help clear things up for me. We have been indited for allegedly tapping up a player. If my memory serves me correctly, earlier this summer Bayern Munich stated that they had agreed terms with Jerome Boateng and all they had to do was get Man City to respond and enter into negotiations with them, whilst stating that City weren't responding to them. How can that happen, when at the time City stated this was done behind there backs. (i live in manchester, and it was all over the local rags). Is it that City backed away from making a complaint, in an attempt to ingratiate themselves with a super power? or that things behind the scenes were far more advanced than we were led to believe? (if so why bring it into the public forum) Surely if the powers that be really want to stamp out this kind of practice, hitting teams like Bayern or AC with euro bans, instead of monetry fines which are paltry in respect to there income, seems they way to go. I appreciate that we aren't in Europe anymore, sadly, but bans in accordance with the the relative clubs, could deter this behaviour surely..........Ta, Chorltoon.

{Ed042's Note - You make some good points there mate. I`m actually just waiting on an article to get published on the topic. I think the major problem is the rules in place, as with so many in football, leave a lot of room for manipulation, theres a massive grey area surrounding what constitutes "tapping up" a player. I also think third parties such as agents are a lot to do with it and seem to be able to manipulate and avoid being subject to these rules, which clubs then in turn manipulate too. Fact is it goes on a hell of a lot more than people think and what makes the mainstream media, and until the rules are changed any sanction placed on a club is open to appeal with a lot of similar cases to back it up. This may be why for the moment monetary punishments are dealt out more than bans}

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I really dont know how the world of football agents work but no doubt they get in touch with clubs about their clients causing unrest with players they represent so they can skim their 15/20 per cent off whatever amount of money their client sells for correct me if iam wrong... geordie tom...

I've said before, i like Pards, and reckon he's miles ahead of Hughton. However i am beginning to detect that he is seperating himself from MA and Llambias in terms of getting transfers sorted, which is the right thing to do. Muppets on other sites have called him a liar, but he's hamstrung by Llambias' lies. My best guess is that we;ll get Bridge on loan and go scouting around europe for a cheap younger player.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2011 18:01:04
If we didnt have ashley,lambias and pardew we would be in the same bracket as everton skint with no one willing to lend them cash then we would have to sell all of the best players(which we mostly have)but we can buy players.my point of view ashley may run us like a business buts thats what it is and he is doing a good job getting wage etc down so all the doubters outhere turn up on sunday get behind the team(who are good enough)and lets show the southern clubs and papers we can pull off a top 10 finish. Black and white blood .

Believable4 Unbelievable0

You should be running at Ascot with those blinkers on

Agree1 Disagree1

Dont recognise who are the "best players that have been sold".
Andy Carrol promising but un proven
Nolan past his sell by date
Campbell ditto
Kuigi ditto
Routledge not atthe races
Enrique I'll give you that one but we didn,t sell him he wanted to go

{Ed022's Note - Nolan? Past his sell by date? Are you kidding me? Top scorer for your team. Won you games on his own. Captain and leader. Do you not remember Newcastle: 5 Sunderland: 1...? Oh just for the record. Im an Arsenal fan. Oh didn't Carroll score the winner against us? Unproven...of course...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Calm down ed jeez..... have you seen nolan play this season yet? And 35million for a striker is ridiculous money considering suarez went for around 26 and is proven quality.

{Ed042's Note - Haha let me jump back in here as a toon supporter who seen every performance from him last season. Nolan is past his best, no question. 2nd half of the season he couldnt cover the ground, and without Carroll only scored 3 goals. Great personality and strong character and always will be, but right time to sell I think and watching him for West Ham so far is proving it was, will have a good season in the Championship no doubt but he is not a top half player any more and wasnt deserving of a four to five year deal, club bigger than any player.. as for Carroll actually think he will come good, think it has more to do with his off the pitch lifestyle and desire and work rate to improve than lack of potential, if he applies himself in the right manner he will be a top class player for Liverpool, £35m was too good to turn down though regardless of potential}

just been looking at zarati on you tube, looks like a good flair player like, but whats the chances of him and the sochaux dude both coming? lets face it, we need strength in depth up front, and currently we aint got a lot of quality up there

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We've got plenty of depth up front - too much, if anything - but very little in the way of quality to further our ambitions.

I'd take both Zarate and Maiga, given the chance. But we've already got lots of attacking players who either can't be shifted or should have been shifted a long time ago.

Ashley isn't going to shell out much more when there are so many players already on the payroll.

Agree1 Disagree0

Remember seeing him play for birmingham 4 or 5 years ago thought he was good then .

Its now apparent Lyon want 10 mil for cissokho and wont budge. My question is , is he really worth that ,dodgy back and all bit risky like ,interested what others think.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We wont pay 6 for peiters and hes ment to be our top target so there's nee chance of us paying 10 for some one else

Agree1 Disagree0

Did Cissokho really have a dodgy back at any stage, or was it because of a failed medical a few years ago, to do with his teeth, that may eventually lead to a back problem (not kidding - Google it)?

Both PSV and Lyon are playing hard ball. They know we really need a LB and won't budge on the price.

Cissokho is still value at £10 million. Ashley will buy whoever is cheapest.

Agree2 Disagree0

How do you fail a medical because of your teeth? did the club have a dentist or something?

Agree0 Disagree0

Poster is dead right tooth probs can really effect your back, but had no idea club medicals covered that. Christ if that's the case how the hell did bugs Ronaldo and Joe jorden ever pass their medicals.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seriously - as ridiculous as it sounds - he would be playing for AC Milan now if it wasn't for dental problems.

No idea how it works. Can't claim to be a doctor or a dentist, but that's what happened.

Newcastle are just not moving as quick as we need to in order to get the players in that we need. Its the same every year, we are linked with stars that end up never coming and our best players heading out of the door. What is going on 35 million for Carroll and not a class forward in return. Let's go for the likes of Podolski or Sturrage or Berbatov.ect and show that we still have a desire to play at the highest level. Ed do you think that there is anyway that we would still be able to get a world class player or even a someone who has a name in our league. As I have my doubts just signing french is just simply not the answer and why would I want a frenchmans name on the back of my shirt??

Believable1 Unbelievable5

Bit racist that mate. Could think of a few French players that if they were at your club you'd have no problem wearing their name on your shirt. Is it just because they are French, or is it because you never rated Ginola, Cantona, Henry, Zidane, Viera, Deschamp, etc etc. If it is the case that you did not rate these players, then i would suggest your comments are not worth replying to, as you are clearly a complete muppet. If it is because you are a racist, then i would suggest you keep your comments to yourself.

{Ed042's Note - Sorry I didnt see the original post asking for my opinion.. agree the last comment is not good. Will pass it off as an error born out of frustration and say no more. As for do I think we could get a world class player, no, we are not a CL club. do I think we can sign players who have the potential to be that in the future, yes. French players are signed in England a lot because of their technical ability and good adaptability to the Premier League. They play in a league which has both technically sound players and big physical players. The only adjustment when coming to England is getting up to the pace of top flight football. I for one have no problem in signing French players. Their academies produce some of the best players in the world. Once they are good players I couldnt care less where they come from tbh. As for our ability to sign good players, it is harder than it once was but not impossible}

Agree4 Disagree0

Dont be so bloody PC, his or her (would not want to be seen as sexist by Mr or Mrs Touchy there) comment was not racist at all. Get back to your tax payer funded quango job and stop wasting our money. Oh sorry was that being insensitive or was it against your human rights........... I hope so.

How much would you pay for the leg breaker Cattermole?

{Ed042's Note - I would donate my annual salary to get in writing from the club six simple words.. we will never sign that scumbag}

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Bit nasty that ED 0042 if that had been a sunderland supporter it wudnt of got posted must be nice 2 hav a bit power is it or wer u just bullied at skool

{Ed042's Note - Not really mate, he is possibly the dirtiest player I have ever seen, doesnt even try and get the ball half the time, would nearly go as far as to say he surpasses De Jong in the dirty player stakes, on top of that he has an extremely bad reputation off the pitch, Barton gets slated all over these forums and the net in general with well worse comments than that mate, and I wouldnt deem half of them to be overly harsh because theres fact to back it up, you may find it harsh, but to mention that blokes name in the same sentence as signing for Newcastle is an insult to most toon fans, definitely me anyway, and besides, who`s to say it wasnt a Sunderland supporter that posted it?}

Agree7 Disagree0

{Ed042's Note - Just out of interest, let me know if I was too harsh in reply to original post, if so apologies poster, not my intention to be}

Agree1 Disagree0

I did find it offensive Ed, as im a sunderland fan i know alot of people think he is a dirty player but he really isnt he just loves to get stuck in, players in the 60's and 70's the whole starting 11 where supposed to play like that hard tackling, the game has gone soft if you ask me.

{Ed042's Note - Apologies lad, no disrespect to Sunderland. I would respectfully disagree with you on Cattermole though. Hard tackling is one thing and its great to see, once you make some attempt to go for the ball. One tackle at the weekend sums him up completely in my opinion and that was the one on Gutierrez. Theres no place for that in the game, past or present. And far from the first time I have seen him make a tackle like that. In my opinion him and De Jong are two players I would class as both reckless and dangerous. Bardsley came in for a lot of stick at the weekend, and it was an awful tackle but I wouldnt tar him with the same brush. He is what I would class an old style tackler, tough but fair, he just got that one very wrong and could have hurt Coloccini so had to go. And off the pitch to my knowledge is a well respected decent lad, even if he is a mackem ha. Lee Cattermole is not}

Agree1 Disagree0

Im a sunderland supporter and think cattermole is rubbishe cant tackle cant pass in fact cant do f**k all best place for him is on the bus out of sunderland along with the man who brought him.

Agree1 Disagree0

No nead to apoligise to the Mackems Ed,I posted the blog and am a toon fan, it is just a matter of time before this thug ends some ones career,I also think that the ref Webb has something against Newcastle he
had a hand in getting us relegated when he cancelled out a perfectly good goal.

Agree3 Disagree1

Don't talk daft, he didn't give us a penalty when tiote brought richardson down, he didn't send off Cabaye for the challenge on bardsley, he didn't send off R Taylor for his elbow on Gyan and he didn't send off Barton for his slap on Bardsley. He was more on your side than ours. Tiote is worse than cattermole especially with picking up cards, Roy Keane, Scholes, Viera spring to mind being Aggressive, hard tackling midfielders and remember roy keane ending Hagelands career. Easy to have ago at Cattermole when you have two bad midfielders in Barton and Tiote and there are others if not worse about, De Jong for example

Agree0 Disagree0

The thing is tiote is no better, ed you can be harsh on cattermole but tiote was worse last season especially with cards, he just hacks, cattermole against you 1st half played well, but 2nd half lost his head as usual, tiote was lucky not to get a his 2nd yellow against arsenal for bringing down gervinho and he also brought richardson down in the box and should of received a yellow, can't remember if he was booked before that. sunderland play better with cattermole, he gives it his all, he is there to unsettle midfielders with his tackling, he doesn't have bags off pace and his passing is poor at times, to the other geordie lad, you call cattermole a thug, was roy keane no better?he ended Alfie Inge Hagelands career, scholes?Red Card Viera? and one name Barton is the biggest cheat and thug going easy to be harsh on one of our players but forget others including your own

{Ed042's Note - All other comparison are accurate enough will address the bit you put to me, Tiote is better than Cattermole, as a footballer hes in a different league, as a tackler all i`ll say is look up optastats tackles won percentage, look up what player is on average the most consistently in the top three for red cards since Cattermole, he pulled away from the tackle with Richardson and Keiran knew himself he didnt even call for peno, against Gervinho yes if he hadnt looked for it and swan dived it may have been a peno was wasnt another yellow card offence, if it iwas every player on the pitch would be booked in matches.. look Tiote is similar to Bardsley who I made reference to as being tough but fair, can get it wrong at times and gets a card for it but goes for the ball every time, Cattermole does not half the time as with De Jong, theres no place for it, and as you said the rest of his game doesnt compensate for it, in fact its pretty poor at times, so if tackling is all you have at least be decent at it, not kick people to stop them when the ball is 5 yards away.. will stick by it mate sorry, he is one of the dirtiest players I have ever witnessed, and off the pitch is not the most pleasant chap either, as for our own players namely Barton as I said, he gets much worse stick and noone bats an eyelid, because more often than not its justified}

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair enough ed, don't know what cattermole is like personally, but on the pitch he works hard, jsut loses his head too much, he is learning all the time, but your right other than tackling, he has nothing else, his shooting is just funny watching, his passing is decent but not good enough, doesn't have much pace, he needs to work on other parts of his game, but to be fair if he was that bad I'm sure bruce wouldn't play him. Tiote may of been pulling out of the challenge with richardson but the fact is he still caught him like gervinho, maybe richardson should of went to the same acting school as barton and he might of got a penalty and Tiote sent off.lol, whats your thoughts on Barton to QPR?personally think it was stupid letting Nolan go and will be stupid letting Barton go

{Ed042's Note - Haha agree to disagree mate... em Nolan, right time to sell, hasnt got the engine any more, wanted a four year deal at 60K, never going to happen, too much of a risk of having another Smith on our hands in one or two years, think it has been justified by how hes played for West Ham so far too, he`ll do okay for them but hes not decent Prem standard any more.. as for Barton, good player, accident waiting to happen though, was only ever going to be this season out of him as like Nolan its a risk to give him a four to five year deal on big wages based on one very good season, midfield is where we have some good options and depth anyway so not too upset about tbh mate, not his biggest fan}

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2011 10:01:09
Don't think we will sign pieters psv want 6 million and Ashley doesn't want to pay that because he's mike Ashley, any deluded Ashley fans can say what you like but hes done this with all our so-called top targets since the end of June, well since he bought the club really, wouldn't be shocked if he's told punch he doesn't need a left back because Taylor scored a free kick and our best left winger has played there in the carling cup

You use that quite a lot dont you ie silly man you sound like some one out of a BBC sitcom are you being served. springs to mind

Agree0 Disagree1

I heard the deal broke down because the mackems have put a 250 mil bid in and messi said it is his dream to play for a club as big as them, said that barcelona was always just a stepping stone.......

Agree0 Disagree0

After the Ameobi swap broke down they said they would give us abidal, messi and 100 million for Perch and smith as they say those are the two positions they are lacking.

They also wanted mike ashley to go over to them to promote greggs pasties, but ashley refused as he loves his casino bets too much
