Frank de Boer says he is "open" to the Newcastle job in the summer

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Has it really come to this? That a once-proud club has become nothing more than a retail outlet making money for a Cockney spiv? That local journalists - who had Charnley in front of them for THREE hours, should hang their heads in shame. Don't they know that we won the FA cup three times in the Fifties, that we trekked to Wembley for two more finals under Gullit and SBR? That we packed 68,000 strong into SJP for the Fairs Cup final? That we were the first club ever to get through to the CL proper after losing three group games? The useless t***ers never thought to put Charnley on the spot over the club's policy of deliberately losing in cupties, or the policy of deliberately keeping out of the Europa places? And they never thought to ask him how the new "communication" is going to work? Did they not think "Hang on, it's January again, and we all know what happened last season - total collapse once players had nothing to motivate them". Have these people never been on a basic management course? Question: how do you motivate players who have nothing to play for, who see the club as a stepping stone to bigger things, and who want away in any case? Answer: you can't unless you get in a new boss with new ideas to make new promises to them. It makes you weep, the pointlessness of it all.

Agree Vic and I was knocked for making very similar points and predicting at most a 12th finish, even that seems a far streach now.

We are all in the same boat and I sympathise with fans still caught up in the imagination, Ashley has killed all that along with Football as we knew it.

Football as I knew lads was division two. It was watching absolute junk under jack charlton, willi mcfaul, graeme souness, kenny dalglish, rudd gullit, alan pardew and and the donkey from bolton.

Even under SBR we were junk for two seasons.

Even john hall was out to take us for a ride so what has changed.

KK and SBR did a great job of making us believe that we would be a great club again. I don't think Ashley is taking money out of the club. The reason he isn't spending is that the club has a higher value the more profit it makes.

Thats what Ashley is after and he has no intention of entertaining the fans. Stop buying shirts, cancel the direct bdebit

Desree check the accounts and see.

It is hard because they are a year behind, which falls in very nicely for Ashley as he has another big one 100m coming up IF Newvastle stay in the Premier League.

Vida: your post above is spot on. You'd think professional sports journalists would have had the wit to ask Charley what he intends to do with the massive profits now building up. Will he splash some of it on a decent CB and CF? Er, no. Will he pay off some of Fatty's loan? Er, no. So is he keeping it to pay Prem wages when we drop into the 2nd division? Probably. And yet another season wasted. What is NUFC for, Charley?

Agree0 Disagree0

Good points Vic. although why blame the chronicle? We have all figured out Ashleys game yet season tickets still get renewed, muppets keep buying the shirts and why anyone is stupid enough to travel for cup games is beyond me when you can watch the reserves for nowt!

Desree: the Chronic has sold its soul(if it ever had one) for a seat in the press box and a free pie. Bobby Moncur has gone right down in my esteem as well. I think Charley did make an effort to find a half-way decent coach, otherwise they'd have given Carver the job straight away, but is there really no-one better willing to take it on? And still the fools keep buying st's.

I want to know how Ashley has got the 70+ out if he has not offset it against his loan and I am involved with accountants most days.

Strange all the investments he is making when we have seen none of the TV money.

Agree0 Disagree0

Desree or on the TV

You've lost me here, Vida. Has Fatty taken £70m out? Or is the club holding it in the piggy bank? (Either way, they're not spending it.)

I suppose Mclaren has a bit of form in championship so he might be able to get us back into the prem

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Probably have to work with Kids like as 80% of our squad would jump ship AND no leaders like Nolan, Barton, Carroll to fight our way back. Championship football may last a LOT longer than our last visit so Fat Man would lose millions in TV money. Only plus point if we get relegated under the Chuckle brothers Carver and Stone

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not sure what to make of it. If we hadn't already been there I'm sure Allardyce would be a target. We all know that it is a fluke where west ham are, just like we were a few years back and everton last season. Other than fergie and wenger Every coach will be a gamble for us. McLaren has at least won stuff, coached at the highest level and coached abroad. He's a poor mans Bobby Robson.

Agree0 Disagree0

Des

His feeble attempts as England boss and his last European juant don't really qualify him as a good coach.

Agree0 Disagree0

Vida, not at any point did I refer to McLaren as a good coach. I would be beyond depressed if we waited all summer to appoint him.
