Hope so, gutted if only 2 players come in, want the 35m spent on transfer fees cant include wages in this, unless we increase our wage bill which we shouldnt. already lost nolan, cambell and kuqi off wage bill with smith, xisco, enrique and possibly barton to follow...these 4 all being on 50k plus aweek on top of this ameobi lovenkrands and best should be sold cos not good enough.

Agree0 Disagree1

One player I really hoped we'd get this summer was atl. Bilboa's £20m striker Fernando Llorente. The lad is immense and is in Spain's team (subs, understandably) he's a stronger, quicker version of Carroll. Also having him in the squad might mean that enrique gets noticed by the national team. Tottenham want him but we could probably outbid them.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

You are nuts if you think we can get him we'll be lucky if we see £10 million on one player.

From a very good source who knows the tweedy family. Cheryl Cole has told Ashley that if he's serious about her then he will have to move to Northumberland as she misses her family and wants to come home. I'm not saying he's going to sign for Newcastle but could be very interesting as he says he'll do anything to get back with her

Believable1 Unbelievable6

I have to admit the Mackems are getting funnier.

Agree4 Disagree1

If he says he will do ANYTHING, I'm sure that she has enough of a sense of humour to make him sign for Sunderland. It would be a 'it's me or your career' ultimatum. I'm sure he wouldn't be that desperate to get back with her, christ i wouldn't even do that for a tumble with wor Cheryl.
Col

Agree0 Disagree0

Well it would be us or you and I don't think he would go for screwcastle who will be struggling with relegation next season would he He would probably select Boro over you, he may even go to Darlo over you. SGB

Agree0 Disagree0

Only one funny smb ex geordie bruce

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets see how many of you would wear a Sunderland shirt all day for a tumble with Cheryl?

I do not have a problem with Mike Ashley's desire to put the club on a stable financial footing. What I seriously resent though is that the club makes little or no attempt to communicate with the fans and on the rare occasions they do, their statements are either ambiguous or false.
Del boy's comments re spending Andy Carroll money in the summer is a prime example. Fans read £35 million spent on transfers, so buy up season tickets with serious expectation of seeing big money players signed. When we fail to spend anywhere near that amount he can hide behind the fact that all he said was none of the 35 million would be taken out of the club.

A meaningless statement from a meaningless man

Whomever we do or do not buy, looks like with who we have already bought we will be more mobile at least.

Predictions for more signings.......maximum £ 5 million

To all the SMB's on here

Firstly you all call our signings French school boys but I know you's struggle with numbers but let's see if you's can understand this I'll put it as simple as I can people officially leave school at the ages of 15-17 although I'm aware most don't even start school in Sunderland so let's look at our signings.

Abeid 18 years old - left school for you's that are struggling.
Cabaye 26 years old - left school along time ago.
Marveaux 25 years old - also been out of school for some time.
Ba 26 years old - he was born in France before you try and correct me also left school around ten years ago.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Are you actually that thick you have to prove this to us its called BANTER stop taking everything so seriously SGB

Agree0 Disagree1

Gyan is leaving to join Spurs are you's thick not to understand that.

THE NUMBER ONE SHIRT

A lot of debate surrounds this position, and competition is healthy to an extent but I think this is a pivotal season and decision to be made by Pardew.

Although he has been as loyal as can be, and is a very solid keeper for the most part, I personally think Harper should be given a background role to enhance the three young promising keepers we have on our books for the future.

Give him a player/coach role with a view to becoming full time goalkeeping coach next season. Would be a valuable man to have in that role for the long term, good keeper, knows the club inside out, and as I said before has been more than loyal to us, deserves more than to just be shunted out. But faith must be put in his coaching role now although kept as a member of the playing staff. He should be seen as the man ready to step in and rely on if anything happens the other two, between injuries, poor performance, or if either get too big for their boots and decide they want to leave.

A lot would feel for Harper and say he should be the number 1 this season on loyalty alone but looking at it objectively if we choose loyalty over the future we could easily lose both Krul and Forster over the next season, which would not be a good thing, and as much as certain fans do nothing but moan about the club and squad, we are in a position very few if any clubs are in as regards goalkeepers, two genuine young talents who have the potential to be very good, with a third that seem to have potential too.

Soderberg is obviously still in the development stages of his career and a bit behind the other two in the pecking order but from what I know he is a promising lad and could learn from someone like Harper on a coaching level, as well as getting his confidence built by seeing two young keepers getting their chance, and if either Krul or Forster do decide to move on in a couple of years, he would be ready to take his chance to push for first team football.

As far as who should be number one, opinions differ among the fans, and both still have a few creases to be ironed out over the next year or two, but thats a given with young keepers. Personally I think Pardew, and to be honest I would too, have more faith in Krul at this moment in time. He has done well for us between the sticks during Harpers injuries and has recently gotten his chance and had that faith reinforced in his ability by the Dutch national side, and from what I seen against Brazil recently he was very impressive in a match where he was kept very busy.

Forster I think would be happy to be number 2 this season, faith being shown in the fact he is not being sent on loan again or sold, and must take the example of Krul in the past couple of seasons in working hard and improving further, knowing that he will more than likley be playing in most of the cup games, where he gets his chance to prove his worth and push Krul for the first spot over the next season or so.

What all this will create I think is very healthy competition between two young keepers and a consistent motivation to perform and improve, which can only be beneficial and as I said, gives a lot of confidence and motivation to the younger generation in the academy, that it is a club that if you work hard and show potential, you will get your chance, even in the goalkeeping position, which is probably the hardest to break into from academy level. But apart from that it sets an example that players that do stick with us long term will not be forgotten about, even if replaced with younger talents, and will be given influencial roles behind the scenes with the club after their playing days are over.

Anyway, thats my two cents worth, be interesting to know what other fans think though.....

KRTOON

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Harper not as agile as he once was and even tho he is still a half decent keeper i think he will not be NUFc first choice this coming season. Krul for me makes a lot of great saves but makes a few mistakes too and isnt as solid as harper. Forster had a great season last year and i would like to see him given the chance to show he can cut it. Think forster will be number 1

Agree2 Disagree1

Like to see Shay come back on loan until we can find a good stopper.

Agree1 Disagree2

Don't forget we have Alnwick who has been called up to the England U20's squad so we're doing something right in the way we're producing keepers.

Although I have a soft spot for the Zog, I think as a team we should be looking to sign Adam Johnson instead. Although the Zog is decent and knows the club, it does not seem to me that buying a player for say 10 mil that we sold for 7 mil is good business. I know it's like saying well we should sign Messi or someone, but I think that we could nab him (Johnson not Messi). What does everyone else think...?

Believable0 Unbelievable4

Would chase johnson over zog any day By far the better player but think he will be more in mancinis mind this season. Could be worth a look at a loan deal tho

Agree0 Disagree0

The same Johnson that is a Sunderland fan and hates Newcastle.
You newcastle fans are still realistic as ever

Agree1 Disagree6

What like when lee clarke signed for you unwahsed lot as much as he hates yous Then topped it off by wearing the SMB t shirt Great crack love it

Agree0 Disagree0

How many times do you have to prove to the dumb f***ing mackems that Johnson supports Newcastle not that there is a chance we can get him.

Agree1 Disagree1

Hes a newcastle fan

Agree2 Disagree1

Johnson is a sunderland supporter but like most footballers they go where the money is just look at steve harper red and white to the core but has to make a living somewhere all be it screwcastle

Agree2 Disagree1

Harper a Mackem yeah I'll believe that when you prove it.

Agree1 Disagree0

Johnson is a toon fan as he said in an interveiw after the city vs toon game when he scored the winner watch it on youtube smb

Agree1 Disagree1

Harper bleeds black and white you stupid SMB

Agree1 Disagree0

Harper a liverpool fan as a kid, Johnson a screwcastle fan as a kid, but his family are sunderland fans and to point out Martin O'neill was a sunderland fan as a kid. all on the internet if you do your research so stop arguing over nothing

The 18-year-old revealed in late May that he was set to join the Magpies from Lens after impressing the Premier League club on trial last season.

He has now put the finishing touches to his move to St James' Park and Newcastle feel the holding midfielder has a promising future.

signing a five year deal. ED DO YOU KNOW IF HE WILL BE IN THE FRIST TEAM OR START OF IN RESERVE SQUAD?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

He'll be working with Beardsley next year

Agree0 Disagree3

Squad player at best next year but pardew likes what he has seen of him and thinks he is an exciting talent. Probably get 1 or 2 games i would think. Plus he isnt a holding midfielder, hes an attacking player and has a good goals record

Is It just me or is any one else worried that Pardew thinks we have a good squad and only need to add 1 or 2 players?

"Marveaux has impressed and, because of his contract situation, he didn't play a lot last season, but that means he comes to us fresh. We think there is a lot to come from him.

Wow these are quotes from Pardew doesn't he realise he didn't play much last season because of a injury.
