Leeds fans. Alan smith deal was on, then off according to bates.it will be revisited in January.Alan smith agreed to join Leeds.Alan smith agreed to consider anything Leeds would offer.Newcastle offered him on a free.then his agent agreed a deal with Leeds.but nelwcastle then wanted an extra 1.2m for the wages they owed him.they would not cut there losses, Leeds said hang on, we can get smith free at the end of the selason....so stuff it.

Ed what do you think of this?

{Ed042's Note - Havnt paid all that much attention to the Smith saga tbh mate, knew he wouldnt be near the first team this season regardless, but from what I know Leeds wanted us to foot a significant percentage of his wage, approx. 30%, we didnt want to, wanted him off the books all together.. where is this £1.2m figure coming from? if hes been sold on a free you are not required to pay up his remaining contract, and I cant imagine we owe Smith £1.2m in wages so seems very unlikely.. only way we would have to pay a severance fee is if he was being released from contract, reason we didnt release Joey last week, would have been owed approx. £3.1m}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well Ken Bates seems to think it would cost Leeds £1m to get him on loan which is rather odd but there you go

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the reply :)

{Ed042's Note - No worries lad}

Anyone watch the French match just caught the nd? Did cabaye play well? I see he kept diaraa on the bench thats good by itself?
Whitleytoon

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Thought Cabaye started on the bench.

{Ed042's Note - He did.. came on 2nd half, 1st thing he done was lift some lad out of it ha him and Tiote is going to be a tough midfield for whoever is against them this season}

Agree1 Disagree0

Saw a great bartonesk pass around the 85th min and he took a good shot from outside the box but apparently he was subbed on at 66min so missed 25mins
WhitleyToon (have also decided as I want this as my forum name any one who has been to the bay massive hello from me :) )

Hope we can sign striker soon would prefer pavleuchenko even though he's older than bendtner he's much better also would like to see new left back cos Enrique all but gone also think johnny Evans would b great signing not needed at man utd either if barton does leave would love to see James mcarthey but know its very unlikely anybody else have any thoughts on this

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Looks like erik pieters is the most likely left back we are reported to be in talks with him.

I can see pards starting with this 11 for arsenal:
Krul
Simpson staylor colocini enrique (he may be leaving but still gives 100%)
Tiote cabaye
Gosling vuckic gutierez
Ba

Gosling and vuckic both proved themselves in america and the enrique/gutierez left wing works well although he might play marveaux of obertan to get them playing

Believable1 Unbelievable2

A fancy: krul
simpson taylor colo enrique(if still here)
tiote
obertan/barton, gosling, cabaye marveaux
marveaux/jonas(vice versa)
ba

Agree0 Disagree1

Krul
Simpson Taylor (s) Coloccini Enrique

Tiote

Marveaux Barton Cabaye Guiterez

Ba

Subs Harper, Williamson, Gosling, Vukic, Obertan, Best, Ameobi

Defence and Striker picks themselves which is obvious worry and shows lack off quality depth in squad.

Our strength is midfield which could be any combination of 6 or 7 players.

We need a quality striker (preferably two) Centra half who could also play right back and left back to either replace Enrique if he goes or provide competition for him

My choices would be Defoe or Welbeck and Sturridge (but unlikely) Would be happy with Tovinen and Bendtner as second choice. Pieters looks a good choice at left back. Defender Samba first choice or maybe Johnny Evans on loan (as Pardope is so pally with Sir AF

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats 12 mate

{Ed022's Note - You'll need 12 players to take on an injury hit Arsenal team. They'll be putting out the kit man and the tea lady if anymore injuries happen. Still, they should be good for a 2-0 win...}

Agree0 Disagree1

2 0 win whos scoring? no rvp or walcott

Agree0 Disagree1

Gervinho, Arshavin, Wilshere, Ramsey, Miyachi and RVP is only a doubt most likely he'll play they've got quality throughout the team.

Gabriel Obertan is number 25, not 9 go to wiki and it says, i dont think we will get a number 9 this season. nimber 9 is just a number, it just represence that all other strikers before you have woren it, so why do we place so much presure on them? we dont place it on number 18 23 19 etc? why 9? players who sign for us and wear that number knows what it means to the club.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Ye lets just make it a squad number we have had some great number 9s Shearer Supermac Wor Jackie Len White big Wyn but we have also had some tossers

Agree1 Disagree1

Apparently this year its like the spanish leagues so the squad numbers have to be 1-25

Mike Ashley wouldnt pay 10 million for any striker. He wont spend the cash end of story do yourselves a favour and stop talking about top class strikers. You have done it for months and made yourselves look stupid for months stepping aside. You couldnt even get Robbie Keane. Fact.
Your desperate.

Believable3 Unbelievable5

Chill out m8 its part of being a football fan, if u lose hope whats the point.

Agree2 Disagree1

I think you will find we bid 10 mil for gamiero so that shows the ambition for a top striker is there.

Agree1 Disagree2

Who we got here?smb jog on back to ya own site

Agree2 Disagree1

And you believe SSN do you, I doubt you bid 10m for him, Your supposed to of bid for all these strikers and then what happens they go somewhere else or turn you down and stay at their club, You wont get bendtner, I bet you sign some average striker or no one at all, Enrique gone, Barton next. Squeaky bum time yet?

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2011 15:25:36
Bendtner would be a cracking signing, he'd score 15-20 goals a season if our midfield is as creative as we all think it will be. He has done it consistently for Arsenal in the EPL so would be less of a gamble than Gameiro who we actually bid £10m for.

If we dither about I reckon Bruce will take him to the stadium of rubbish€ as he needs a striker also andd had him at Birmingham so they have a good relationship.

Have to admit i have not seen much of Obertan so i went on you tube and watched this video.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNmc8DkGCwk&feature=fvst

If that is what we have to look forward to then i cant wait for the season to start he can run dribble has all the tricks, and i wonder why he couldnt get a game at Manchester for 3 million he is a steal. I just hope he can produce the same here and we are in for a treat.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

I've been trying to say that on here for the past few days as well mate but it seems there are still people out there that won't give him a chance.

You see the skill for the goal he set up against Wolfsburg for Owen?

Geo

Agree4 Disagree0

Do you honestly think if obertan had half a chance of being a decent prem player then sir alex would have sold him for 3m get real. you can find wow footage of any footballer on you tube they not gonna post rubbish are they wakey wakey

Agree3 Disagree4

Only show the good bits on you tube if they showed the bad bits would take you 3 month to watch it

Agree2 Disagree1

Every1 keeps saying if he was good sir Alex wouldn't let him go.

Rossi, Forlan, Pique.

Sir Alex is HUMAN, if we was that bad then why did the master buy him in the 1st place?

Geo

Agree5 Disagree0

I watched a vid of him and he I don't even think he knows what he is doing, a few too many stepovers, he had the odd bit of class but think he is no better than what you have in Jonas

My jouno mate tells me the latest enquries on strikers are :-

* Keane & Defoe - Will take either of em if spurs pay 75% of their wages, not likely.
* Bendtner - They've asked for him on loan with option to buy at end of season. Arsenal want a sale now.
* Pavyulcenko - Have asked for a loan deal (no option to buy) but spurs want a sale.
* Erding - they are still keen as they see a profit in this fella. Unlike Shane Long where they saw no increase in value in the future.

As usual they want everything given to them for coppers. And as usual they're waiting until last days of the transfer deadline.

How come they can give shola a new contract but not barton, shola is useless and does this mean were going with ba and shola upfront?

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Shola is not on the same wages as Barton also I dont think we will play 442 this year, most likely it will be more of a 451 or 433 formation. 442 is dead, the best teams in the world adopt a 433 or 451 formation now.

Agree2 Disagree0

Man United Play 4-4-2 with Rooney and Hernandez upfront?

{Ed042's Note - Not traditional 4-4-2 based on how much Rooney drops off and their wingers push up, more 4-2-3-1}

Agree0 Disagree0

Man u dont play 442, they play more of a 4132 formation, with Rooney droping off.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shola is big mikes bitch and does what his told where as barton is like james dean a rebel who takes no rubbish

Agree1 Disagree0

Barton was offered a contract, verbally agreed it then changed his mind, snide agants at work me thinks.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2011 12:57:35
i think should buy one mint player i would want messi but he is worth more than st james park

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Yeah thats a really good point. I personally would like the entire Barcelona team but they're too expensive and they wouldn't come to us. Know what I mean?

Hi guys, well amongst all the positive news flying about new signings there have been whispers of a potentially negative move on the cards.

Coloccini's agent has came out and said his client is waiting to hear back from Valencia about a possible £5m move.

Fabriccio loves the Toon but does not know if he could turn down a potential return to Spain or Champions League football.

If this is true then this could pose a serious dilemma. First of all he was made captain, if he leaves who in the 1st team is a suitable candidate?

I personally would go for Tiote or S.Taylor. But we are also short on Central Defenders as it is so it would be interesting to hear what fellow Toon fans have to say? Could Barton re-emerge as the new captain and be offered a new deal?

Do you believe these rumours and who would you make captain and sign as a replacement?

Geo

Believable7 Unbelievable5

If any decent offer comes in for him hes gone i reckon 5/6 million, nufc wont offer new contract(on 80k )and wont want him doing what enriques done...del

Don't know what it is with this football club, last week it was all doom and gloom and people wanted to boycott but a week on most people are in high spirits for the start of the season. Tiote back and ready for arsenal, obertan signed, barton looks set to stay and for now it seems that they might be some hope in Enrique staying however if he doesn't its good to know we are acctually trying to get GOOD replacements in like Erik Pieters. Also it is quite clear a striker is top of the agenda, which evidently is needed.Things have been very promosing over the last few days bit one thing I've learned over the recent years being a newcastle fan, it can all change in the blink of an eye.

Enrique sold, linked to a left back from holland but nothing concrete, Barton may still go, Stoke and Everton sniffing, Colo could be off to Valencia. not as bright as you make out

i may get some stick but im wondering why we shouldnt go back for oba martins, out of favour and was a good player until he left, he may find his form back in the black and white, any thoughts?

Believable2 Unbelievable6

Not a chance he was never the best and do you really wanna player who jumps ship when times are hard, I dont.

Agree2 Disagree1

The problem is Oba is on £50-£60,000 a week at Rubin Kazan so if we were to sign him he would want similar wages and don't think he is worth that.

The reason Birmingham got him on loan was because Kazan paid some of his wages.

Geo

Agree2 Disagree0

Would rather go with what we have got. He had his chance with us, and was very hit (and more often) miss. Not a particularly good team player, and not a high enough goals per game average to justify being a greedy git.

Agree0 Disagree0

No way, the season we went down all the chances seemed to fall to him and he kept missing them, Spurs away was a classic example on his favoured left foot on the edge of the 6 yard box and hammered over. Apart from anything else he was always getting injured as he was for most of teh time at Birmingham, well done Mr Roeder chossing him when we could have had Kuyt who at the time said he wanted to replace Shearer so would have come.
Also agree he could not wait to leave once we went down so F him he can rot in Russia or wherever Ruben Kazan happens to be.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Aug 2011 10:09:33
So Shola signs a new contract but none is offered to Barton? Hmmm

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Yeah but Shola is on £17-£22,000 a week. Joey wants £60,000 + a week and that's why we havent agreed an extension.

Why do you think the likes of Villa, Stoke, Wigan who were all interested havent signed him?

His demands are too rich, even for Arsenal probably.

i have just checked out some vids of obertan, and lads we have signed the next henry

Believable6 Unbelievable3

No he is not, if he was Sir Alex wouldn't have let him go Oberton is not that good, he will do a good job for us am sure

Agree1 Disagree1

Its very rare berbatov plays u person does that mean he aint good enough..its like this when a player is playing well and doing what you expect from him in a game why would you drop him to play some one else and thats whats happend with obertan the players in his position where all playing well he was never going to get in give him a season see what he,s like

Agree0 Disagree0

He let rossi, pique and forlan all go, and they're some of the best players in the world now.

Agree3 Disagree0

And as for berbatov , he finished joint highest goalscorer so he must of played quite a few games mustnt he ?
