With Carroll gone the obvious gap needed filling in the starting 11 to improve the first team is a striker. would guess that r.taylor, lovenkrants, smith, cambell, routledge would be allowed to leave for whatever the club can get for them to get the wage bill down - smith and cambell especially and then those players replaced with freebies along the lines of elmander/larsson.
Think with sunderlands apparent money woes, trying to nick in and secure a permanent deal for onouha would be the perfect signing our defence needs as he can play anywhere in teh back 4. Also think Gervinho has to be the no1 target as he could play off one of our many target men, out wide with arfa in a 433 or even right side in a 442 if barton had to tuck for injuries and routledge will no doubt be sold.
Would be an excellent summer if we kept our good players and only brought in onouha, elmander, gervinho - what do you think? ? 23 Feb 2011 12:22:08

Mr ashley has already deposited 25 million to newcastle united fc bank account, liverpool have yet to deposit all of the transfer fee of 30million rising to 35. He has done this to provide newcastle with any fees upfront for agent and to prove to clubs the money is there. He hopes this is to further support his word that ALL of the transfer money will remain in the club. Wether it be transfer money or wages to hold onto top players, his main priority is stability and security of our future. I believe that the best option for pardew in the summer would be to invest in young players like van wolfswinkel and sturridge but we also need to look at a proven goal scorer like Hulk though there will be many other big clubs in for him so might not be possible. We also need to look at the midfield because tbf joey barton is playing really well on the right but his natural postion is in the middle and chiek tiote is going to be attracting so much interest from many big clubs that i would be suprised if we manage to keep him.

What both Pardew and Del Boy said was "the money won't be leaving the club". That is not the same as spending it on players. If it paid off debt (to one M.Ashley) the money would not leave the club, but would improve its financial position.
