Talk of left backs being looked at by NUFC, who would you want? Willems? Kurzawa? (May be a bit pricey)

SM has also been talking a lot of players that the club are apparently close to getting that have "gone under the radar" or so to speak. Any guesses on who they could be?

I still wouldn't be surprised to see Ashley Cole arrive. and to be honest I don't think i'd be as disappointed as I was when I first saw this rumour at the start of the window. his experience at left back would be good for us.

Agreed Nik, he could really help Haidara improve his defensive skills as he is great going forward but the first job of a defender is t defend and he is not the best so Cole for a season would be a great shout.

I just don't think the club are going to bring a 34 year old in with no sell on value

Chancel Mbemba due for medical in next 48 hours after £8.5million fee agreed. He's in Paris at the moment sorting out his visa

I think the friendly against Portland definitely showed we need strengthening in defence

I think more to the point it shows that Williamson is out the door. If he was not injured why did he not play?

Perhaps it was a bit of cleverness by McLaren to make a point to the board that money needs spent on 2 cb's.

seems like they refused to play some of our guys as they don't like playing on astro turf.
which begs the question - why arrange a game on astro turf? this was totally within our control.

Lol vida you're talking as if the friendly was a champions league game. You're immediately judging players like bigi and satka as crap over a FRIENDLY match.

i think its you who needs to WAKE UP!

also he had to give everyone a run out or it wasnt worth them being there, tours are about get-togethers not about results, but our first X1 should be playin Sunday and next Saturday

positives for me are Aarons and Steve Macs comments. At long last we have a manager who tells it like it is and doesn't patronise us. The other positive is that was essentially our 3rd round FA cup team in Pardews reign.

If Ashley is serious about winning something then this showing was great evidence that the majority of players are not capable and need to be shipped oot.

I agree, sunday will give a far clearer picture as to the strength of the squad and what is required in addition to the two CB's, a left back, a winger and possibly another striker. Ayoze needs time to develop and we can't rely on Aarons with his injury background, young kids should not get the amount of injuries this lad has and perhaps his body isn't cut out for PL football?

Desree totally agree r.e SM's comments compared to pardew/carver.

Vida

I am feeling optimistic and I am sure there are many others who are feeling the same, since when was the last time under Ashley that we spent £34million on three players (wij, mitro, Mbemba)?

Des you are dead right, what a waste of travelling they could have arranged friendlies in Europe and seen also some potential players for the Toon.
