canal+ interviewd sochaux manager and he said maiga will not be leaving for nufc but erik pieters will be in hopefully for fulham (WelshToon)

Believable11 Unbelievable6

He's definitely on his way then lol.

Managers always say their players aren't going anywhere - Wenger was saying the same about Fabregas and Nasri a few days ago...and Pardew was saying something similar about Enrique...

Dom.

How does the Sochaux manager know whats going on with Erik Pieters?

Agree0 Disagree0

HAHA that comment about the sochaux manager knowing about pieters is sheer comedy genius. I salute you sir made me actually lol.

maiga will fly into Newcastle tomorrow for a medical. Decision on left back will be made tomorrow, Pardew and Carr on way back from Holland

Believable22 Unbelievable8

Despite what people say I think Maiga would be a good signing

Agree0 Disagree0

Heard this before last week it was a left back and striker in before thursday. same old rubbish

Agree0 Disagree0

Yet another eternal pessemist commenting onpeoples posts and spoiling it for everyone who thinks about putting something on

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope M.A changes his mind and goes for maynard instead really got a bad feeling about maiga, hope i'm wrong though.

Agree0 Disagree0

So pardew went out to holland, for 1 day of talks?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah thats exactly what he did. he went to have a look at him to see if he is worth buying.

SSN are reporting that Pardew is off to watch Erik Pieters today.

Ed - any thoughts / news on this? Seems odd to watch a player after we've a)watched him before, b) made a bid already and c) seemingly lost interest and moved on to Cissokho.

Dom.

Believable13 Unbelievable4

{Ed042's Note - Looking for a good deal above all else. Similar to Jose situation in the player seems to want to leave so the clubs value isnt the market value, if that makes sense? we wanted £10m for Enrique, ended up getting approx. £6m.. they want 6 to 7 for Pieters, think we are willing to go to 5m.. dont think weve lost interest we just have more than one option, that or its a tactic to put pressure on PSV to sell, may feel they will lose out on any money for him and have a player at the club all season who doesnt want to be there}

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I'd rather take Pieters than Sissohko. But both are excellent players IMO.

Pete

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers Ed, makes sense - looks like we've left PSV to stew for a bit while we quietly, bit not too quietly, sniff around Cissokho.

Given the values, you'd have to say that Cissokho is unlikely. He moved to Lyon for about £12million in 2009, so they're going to want to get most of that back. Pieters is a much cheaper option even at PSVs inflated valuation.

Personally, I haven't seen either of them play so I have no idea which is the better player. Pieters is taller but Cissokho looks more of a solid athlete. Do either have pace?

Dom.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope he is there and looks at Toivonen too because he would be great for us and he scored a goal today so hopefully he impressed on AP.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im swedish and I know that Toivonen is not the right player for us... he is a big strong more of a target man and we need a striker with more pace.... But there is one striker in psv I would love in newcastle and that is LENS He would be the perfect player for us BUT I think he would cost 10-15m.......

Agree0 Disagree0

Jeremain lens is on a 4 yr contract 1yr into it so would be costly . Agree he could fit the bill ,cant help thinking Carr would of spotted if he was a worthwhile target though.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Pieters was always our number one target, but while it was taking so long we had to look at other option stoo.

Any news on Joey Barton considering the interest from Stoke City?

Believable1 Unbelievable26

It's becoming known in press circles that peace has been made with Barton and the "grown ups". A verbal agreement has been made that if all goes well he'll be offered a new contract at SJP in January. Barton is happy with this arrangement, hence the happier look this last week......SteveToon

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for that just trying to pick up some pieces because this one about Stoke is being pushed hard by sky, did'nt think there was much in it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope not, but wouldnt surprise me if we sold barton, guttierrez and collocini all have big wages and contracts running down, that seems to be our policy at the minute.

Agree0 Disagree0

In the end Joey has to want to go to stoke and i just don't see him fancying a move there.

I was reading that we are in good talks with the 2 players from France. Ed is there any truth? For me personally if we do not get both in this week or by the weekend, we will not be getting any new players in.

{Ed042's Note - Yes it is true, trying to get both on board, may take another reserve game and look at them 1st though}

Believable12 Unbelievable0

Surely that refers to Cissoko and Maiga not the two trailists?

{Ed042's Note - Apologies ha im wrecked from the weekend. Mark Douglas from The Sun who reported it is a good lad but with transfer talk from any media source you have to take it with a pinch of salt. Yes there is interest and we are negotiating fees but theres no advanced talks going with the players themselves yet unless the clubs have given permission to do so, which to my knowledge they have not as yet}

just wondering m8 this maiga guy is he the pacy forward we need does any one know ...geordie tom

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Yes he's a pacey striker played as a winger mostly but last year played as a striker and scored 15 goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aint seen much on him but he didnt look fast

Agree0 Disagree0

He's a better, but skinnier, Shola

Agree0 Disagree0

He has a good turn of pace but for me he is not in the bellamy esque mold. However, in Carr we trust

Agree0 Disagree0

I know i's only youtube but he looked fast on that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers for the info lads ...geordie tom

Agree0 Disagree0

I live out in france and i told the lads on my team we are interested in Maiga and they all think itd be a great signing they also think that £7mil is a snip (they watch ligue 1 all the time so im gonna trust their opinion)

Sunday Sun reporting Cissokho and Maiga chase has been stepped up over weekend.

Believable19 Unbelievable4

Think theres some truth in maigo's but not in cissokho's; just too good to be true. anyway, is sunday sun usually reliable?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sunday sun were first to report cabaye

Agree0 Disagree0

They're both true I posted this last thursday from info I recieved from a Journo friend. Llambias and Pardew have won MA over and he's given the go ahead. Some tough negotiating going on though.......SteveToon

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love to see Cissokho not so sure about Maiga though, bit concerned hes not right for us and not cheap either. Bristol city have slapped a 6.5 mil price tag on Maynard and still reckon hes the better option .

Agree0 Disagree0

SSN was reporting earlier on that we're interested in both and that Mildew is watching Pieters play for PSV later on today.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im out in France and asked the players on my team their opinion of Maiga and Cissokho they are both very highly rated out here Maga is apparently intelligent with his runs pretty quick and good finisher + skillful (box ticked) and Cissokho like a younger Black enrique by all accounts really id stil prefer Pieters tho more defensively solid
