Heard initial talks have been held regarding the free signing of Douglas in the summer. Chronicle reported Newcastle linked with him months ago but now with Newcastle seemingly having secured some form of European football, moves are being made to tie him up as soon as possible. Steve McClaren has apparently recommended Newcastle to him having been resigned to losing the Brazilian Defender.
