surely it would be in the best interest of nufc to pay half of smiths wages for a year saving 30k a week could bring in someone decent for that, same goes for xisco but hes got 2 years left on his contract.
on a positive note i can see the mackems having this problem in 2 years with brown/oshea....del

Believable4 Unbelievable0

We should have got rid of Xisco to the first available bidder a long time ago. In his many years here, he's made it perfectly clear that his ownly interest is picking up the wages. Never plays, never scores, always on loan somewhere in Spain.

Same can be said for many of our other attacking players, unfortunately. There's no shortage of them. It's just a shame that they're all crap. Have to get rid of the dead wood before we can hope to bring anyone decent in on an expensive, long term contract.

Why have we never even tried playing Smith up front? He was a striker at Leeds and at Man Utd.

Agree1 Disagree0

Think Fat Cashley is being as tight as Ken Bates with regards to Smith he wants the wages completely off the bill :-/ we still need mr smith at Leeds the Bradford game last night wasn't great even though we nicked a winner

Agree0 Disagree0

I liked Smith as a striker, he was hungry for 90 minutes at leeds, defended from the front, whats he like at newcastle? it was the mancs that tried to turn him into a midfielder, worst thing for his career was joining them, johnny

Agree1 Disagree0

KK played him as a striker for 6 games on the trot and he never looked like scoring. That said if we are paying him £60k a week we might as well try him up front as he will never get a game in our midfield now.

Agree1 Disagree0

Can't believe how skint Lufc are but £1m contribution towards a years loan was tight given how much you wanted rid. Hopefully you come back with a decent offer for Snodgrass (overrated) and chip in Smith. Just saying. LOL. Give it til January you'll be screaming for us (lufc) to take him on

I've heard that Wolfsburg are close to signing Demba Cisse from Freiburg. Fee is prob gona b in the region of 12-15m.

Because of this Patrick Helmes, Wolfsburg's current striker has voiced his concern and is looking to move on to another club.

He scored 2 goals at the weekend and has an impressive record in the Bundesliga.

Wolfsburg paid £6.5m and would prob want similar money for him but cd b an option?

Geo

Believable7 Unbelievable0

What a great signing for Wolfsburg, but your right Geo, Helmes isn't a bench warmer, so he could be on the move. I suppose he could be another option. I think Wolfsburg might want a bit more to put towards the Cisse deal.

How old is Helmes Geo? Just wondering if he fits our model.

Im hoping for toivenen or bendtner. Maybe more realistic targets for under 10m

Dave

Agree4 Disagree0

Helmes is 27 so will bring experience to the side and will have a good 5/6 seasons in him.

I agree, Toivonen would be a great signing and there is certainly a lot of talk about him coming just now.

Bendtner though, I am not a big fan. I think he comes under the Nolan, Barton category. Good player and would score goals for us, however is it worth the baggage he brings?

He has a huge ego and I think that could potentially cause problems for the club in the long run.

Ed you said on other page pieters is currently in talks is that with us m8...geordie tom

{Ed042's Note - Yeah, apparently seems very likely, would presume Jose is on his way in the next day or two if it is the case, but he want out of PSV, fallen out with manager, and has a release clause, which we love ha, plus Pards was at the PSV game the the other day to watch him, and Krul confirmed we had interest in bringing him in over the past 24 hours, apparently knows him very well}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sounds good cheers again m8 ..your curry yesterday ..what did you have for starter you never did answer me m8 lol

{Ed042's Note - Haha didnt have a starter mate, not needed, curry house I use does double portions, was star shaped for a good 2 hours after, couldnt move lol}

Players that I believe Newcastle could and should sign:
(Not all at once though)

Mangala: 6 million
Nicklas Bendtner: 10 million, or maybe take him on loan
Erik Pieters: 6 million
Ola Tavoinen: 7.5 million
Danny Ings: 800k
Kyle Walker:On loan, as I believe he is better than our current right back Danny Simpson, but the chances of us being able to afford to buy him are slim
Alan Hutton:Seemingly wanted rid of by harry Redknapp.
Tranquilo Barnetta: 4 million

GEORDIEEEEE

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Kyle Walker is going to be Spurs first choice RB this season.

Agree1 Disagree0

Barnetta won't come now that we have bought Obertan. I think Alan Hutton is a good shout, British and better than Simpson.

Its amazing how just one day can change everything it has been all doom and gloom for me in the last week or two but today we have a new signing who i am not going to write off unlike some other fans and give him a chance with some regular football to see what he is like. Barton is back with the first team he has been a fool but football wise its good for us and Tiote is back aswell Arsenal have 5-6 injuries and i am now a very happy geordie and am counting the days till i take my seat in the gallogate.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

Aye roll on saturday, personnally i cant wait

Agree1 Disagree0

It's funny seeing the mags getting all excited over someone who has not played a game in two years - we are not slating MANU rejects now, are we?

Agree0 Disagree1

At least ours has the best years ahead of him not behind him

Agree4 Disagree0

Ha ha lets all laugh at the makems please think before you post we have signed a young promising player with his best years ahead from Man Utd and yous signed 2 players nearing 30 years old who never made it in there early years at man u, think i know who got the better deal there

Agree4 Disagree2

Experience sometimes is better than youth, get 3 or 4 years out of Brown and O'shea don't mind if I do, You ones to talk a certain Mr Sol Campbell haha

I don't know whether this is positive information for us but SSN are reporting that Lille's chairmen has slammed Moussa Sow's wage demands for a new contract.

The contract expires in 2013 but Lille are not backing down on the terms that they have offered for an extension.

Before I heard this, I was sure a player like Sow would be too much for us to go for. However with this new arising it could be a possibility?

I reckon he is on about £25-30,000 a week and probably wants double that now which we could just afford and because he has upset the Lille hierarchy they would maybe accept a bid in the region of £10m?

I know I said earlier that we won't sign anyone for £10m + but when the top goalscorer in Ligue 1 is unsettled it may be worth rocking the boat?

Geo

Believable9 Unbelievable1

Wouldn't he be going to African cup of Nations if so if we did sign him we could be without 3 strikers and a CM.

Agree1 Disagree0

This is the 1 stumbling block as he and Ba would be away, so actually for that reason alone I can't see a deal transpiring.

Geo

09 Aug 2011 15:34:00
Obertan is not the answer , i've just been reading according to Manchester Uniteds fans website he was the worst Fergie signing since Bellion and Eric Djemba-Djemba , wow looks great for the future doesn't it...so all i can say please me and my fellow NUFC supporters don't get excited over this signing because if he was any good Fergie wouldn't have let him go...

Believable6 Unbelievable8

Maybe Fergies selling him because he's got Park Ji Sung, Valencia and Nani ahead of him. It doesn't mean he's rubbish he just hasn't clicked with the team aswell.
I remember him taking three players on and a cueing someone up for a tap in

Agree5 Disagree3

Didn't say he was rubbish just that if he had potential Fergie would have kept him because of his age , i do hope he plays well but cannot get excited over any of the signings so far..

Agree4 Disagree1

Aswell as Young and Giggs.

Agree1 Disagree0

Agreed and yeah that was against Wolfsburg in the Champions League assist for Owen to score.

For all of you pessimists (or Mackems) out there go and have a look at that assist and tell me Routledge could do that.

Geo

Agree7 Disagree3

Thats your problem, wanting to get excited by new signings, stop getting your hopes up we're not in europe we and we have a tight arse owner. lower your expectations and you wont be upset. end of the day, if we could get a decent striker and a left back bfor arsenal I will be pleased with our signings. I honestly believe we will finish top half and above sunderland if that wer the case

Agree1 Disagree3

I'm a Mackem hope he does well for you just not against us.Exciting derby ahead equally matched teams/squads for the first time in a while.

Agree6 Disagree1

So what are we saying here Manchester United have 5 players trying for the one place...sorry i don't go with that ...listening to my friends who have supported NUFC for years they cannot get excited over the signings either ,,, i am not like a lot of supporters who like burying their heads in the sand and think the signings will improve our team i am living in a REAL world..

Agree1 Disagree1

From what I've seen he seems to cross low across the 6 yard box alot so I'm just hoping we've got someone to tap it in.

Agree0 Disagree1

Why do you not wait and make up your own mind...not long now...I've heard he's a canny player...but I'll wait and see, cos I can think for myself

Agree1 Disagree1

'i am not like a lot of supporters who like burying their heads in the sand and think the signings will improve our team i am living in a REAL world' - you dont sound like a realist at all, you sound like someone desperate to have the glory days back when we wud pay big money for players to try and challenge for top four. Its not that we have buried our heads in the sand, we want the glory days as much as anyone, but we take it on the chin and move on. anyway...that is whats real, if you cant accept that your going to be an unhappy fan for somedays to come i think

Agree0 Disagree6

You could rely on shola to do it but not likely

Anyone else think obertans no better than routledge, from what I've seen of him he looks exactly the same player

Believable3 Unbelievable9

He has better delivery more pace and can finish unlike routledge.

Agree8 Disagree3

Trust me this guy is better than Routledge.

Geo

Agree12 Disagree2

Not from what I've seen, there both fast and tricky with zero end product

Agree2 Disagree8

Yeah but the difference is Obertan was fast and tricky in the Champions League. Routledge was fast and tricky against Doncaster.

Trust me Obertan will be good for us. If he ain't I will come on here in Jan and hold my hands up.

Geo

Agree9 Disagree1

I hope your right pal

Agree5 Disagree0

You might as well hold them up now, headless chicken comes to mind.

Agree1 Disagree7

Why is it some fellow Toon fans on here make judgements on a guy before he has kicked a ball for us?

People slagging off Ba because he got relegated with West Ham yet almost kept them up with his goals.

And now its Obertan, couldn't get in the MAN UTD side last year so he must be rubbish. Give me a break.

So much negativity and the Season ain't even started yet.

Geo

Agree9 Disagree1

I recon toon fans need to face up to the fact that we have a different manager (whether you like him or not) who wants a different sytle of play. carroll is gone, and he cant really be replaced with ashley in charge. That style of football is gone with it but some fans resent it and complain about new signings that dont fit that bill. Get over it man, theres nothing worse than a bunch of whinging fans feeling sorry for themselves. I hope other supporters dont think of us like that, chin up lads we're geordies we'll support the toon whatever happens

Agree7 Disagree1

Totally agree stop the winging you are just giveing the smb ammo to throw back at us so lets everybody stick together for the toon

PSV Eindhoven defender Erik Pieters has cleared the way for a move to Newcastle after admitting frustration at his treatment by coach Fred Rutten.
Pieters, who is currently part of the Holland squad preparing to face England, was due to be watched by Toon manager Alan Pardew and chief scout Graham Carr last weekend. However, despite being fully fit, the 23-year-old was only named on the bench, meaning Pardew decided to stay in England.
But Carr did make the trip, and managed to catch a glimpse of the promising left-back as a second half substitute in the 3-1 defeat to AZ Alkmaar. Pieters has since linked up with the national team, but revealed his disappointment at being left out out of the PSV team in the Dutch media, who now suggest a move is imminent.
Newcastle are long-term admirers of the former Utrecht star, and know PSV would be powerless to prevent a transfer, due to a release clause inserted in a recent contract extension.
And Pieters is now at the top of the Magpies' list of potential replacements for Liverpool target Jos?© Enrique.

Signing a Winger and looking for a LB is all well and good, but I can't help thinking that we should be looking to sign a Striker ASAP. Everyone and their dog knows we were short last season, but for some reason we have only dabbled in the market and signed an 'impact striker'. The fat one needs to show the toon faithfull he is serious about the club by bringing in a striker - anyone of the player mentioned recently will do (Holt, Long, Bendtner etc etc) just so we have better options than we already have - Shola, Leon etc...

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Grant Holt would just be another Shola and Shane is Long gone (sorry guys).

We will have a Striker in, maybe not before Arsenal but before the window closes.

With the quality of wingers we have in the squad now it is looking a dead cert Pardew will play 451 (defending) changing to a 433 (counter-attacking) football utilising quick wide men as outlets to run at opposition.

Therefore it is hard to say what kind of Striker we will go for as Ben Arfa will play in behind and I think Demba Ba will get game time to show what he can do.

Geo

Agree6 Disagree1

There's a 1 in 1 out policy, nobody's come in for the players you've mentioned so were stuck with them, Nolan went cabaye came in, routledge - obertan I hope I'm wrong mind coz we need 2 strikers a right and left back and a cb, were going into a new season with three first team centre halves and two of them are injury prone but that's the way our club is run these days

Agree0 Disagree1

I think your right to an extent but can see us bringing in another Striker and possibly loaning out Xisco or Ranger.

Geo

Agree1 Disagree0

Sorry but your analysis is incomplete Kuigi out Ba in Cambell out ??Looks like we are a CH light

Don't worry lads we will get the right players in.The mackems are as usual buying quantity they build a new squad every transfer window. We on the other hand are buying quality and who out of the mackem signings would you have at newcastle?who out of the whole squad for that matter.

Believable6 Unbelievable4

Brown,o,Shea,wickham,don-won,deacon,gardner,vaughan,larsson,
Sessegnon and gyan deffinately.

Agree4 Disagree6

Titus bramble hes one hell of a player not sure if anyones heard of him lmao

Agree0 Disagree1

Absolutely no one, although if Whickam was available for around 4 million, he would be worth a punt. Their signings this summer have all smacked of desperation. Paying over the odds for avaerage players in order to plug the gaps that were left by last seasons loan players going (as well as the better players jumping ship).
Col

Agree2 Disagree1

You dont seriously believe the signing's you made are better than what we have bought, if you do you are seriously deluded. Who have you bought unkown frogs from a leaugue on a par with the Championship. we have bought Players apart from 2 with EPL experience, Wickham excellent future prospect, Don Won, Korean international 20 year old, will help S/land grow with shirt sales in Korea Big struggle next season for you SGB'S

Agree4 Disagree5

Haha pl experience but where did you buy them from? oh yeh the championship apart from 2 pentioners and as for the french league being the same standard as the championship yeh i would love to see lille play the championship winners qpr lol

Agree1 Disagree2

Got to admit I'd have a couple of their players Sessegnon( was hoping Newcastle would of signed him last January), Gyan, Bardsley and I'd have dong won as I think he'll be bargain and better than Wickham.

Agree1 Disagree1

Funny that, larsson and gardner were good in the premiership, vaughan was blackpools player of the year. funny you sign one player in obertan and now your world beaters again and the crying stops. Pathetic SGBS

Agree1 Disagree4

You are aware Larssons stamina is pathetic you'll get 60 minutes per game out of him. Then it's like playing with ten men.

Agree1 Disagree1

Listen m8 im over in Brest France, working at the minute, and the local lads in the yard tell me apart from the top few teams the rest are no better than our championship, they also say cabaye not bad the rest are S***, But then all you Sc** can say is we signed championship players, but they were the best players in their teams, and have experience, wait till your frogs realise how tough the EPL is they will be running around with Brown shorts. Bet you wis your club was run as good as ours, Chairman who Played for and loves the club with an owner to back him. you will all have a reality check in the next couple of months. SGB'S

Agree3 Disagree4

You keep telling yourself that mate haha

Agree1 Disagree2

Haha a t*t that lives in Brest.

Cabaye not bad? next you'll be telling us Gervinho and Eden Hazard are mediocre.

Agree4 Disagree1

Youre owners a geordia and would ditch sunderland to come to newcastle anyday but we dont want him

Agree3 Disagree6

Sunderland are a better team and club than newcastle and on a par fan wise.Sunderland will do very well and newcastle need a good start or will be struggling although two places are already gone as far as relegation goes, norwich and qpr. This Coming from a neutral stoke fan.I would rather have sunderlands squad over newcastle's although stokes squad is better than both.

Agree4 Disagree5

Sunderland owners a geordie?Quinns sunderland through and through,Ellis short.is an irish american from texas who wasnt even interested in football untill a chance meeting with Quinn he seen the oportunity to buy a club in sunderland for a great price and awaken a sleeping giant.

Agree2 Disagree0

Stokes squad is better than both haha a player that wasn't good enough at Sunderland is one of your best players and only gets in the team cause he's got a giant throw also Huth is more of a thug than Barton. Anyway enjoy your thugby next season.

Agree0 Disagree1

Wat is up with ppl having a go at us for signing all french players look newcastle have a good re pour for getting the best out the french and you only have to look at owa history to see that to the sunnderland fans u keep bring the fact up that you sign player that where voted there best at there clubs yes and do thing these players you where talking about are from clubs that where relagted to the champship or coming from chamship teams not really somthing to be shouting about we signed a player from a team that didnt just cut it in the perm aww

Agree0 Disagree1

Why is there Stoke fans getting involved now?
You, like Sunderland have no history compared to us, so why don't you stop wasting your time posting s**t and stick to your own sites.

At least we play football, not punting

Agree1 Disagree1

Stoke wer 33, therefore no real opinion. no wonder you agree with mackems tho same horrible strip

Agree0 Disagree1

I have to say this as stoke annoys the hell out of me, a team that finishes in the top-half with the most unattractive playing style. No wonder you're after crouch.

Agree2 Disagree0

Wickham worth 4m ? get real oxo went to arsenal for 15m and didn t even play in the championship bet u would love him and he would be a really good prospect

Agree2 Disagree0

Dont worry about the Stoke and Makem jumping on our site they are suffering from PST (pre season tension) its like PMT and when my missus has it I go down to the club out the way.Thats what these guys are doing nipping off to THE REAL FOOTBALL CLUB

Agree1 Disagree1

Haha classic

Agree0 Disagree1

Sunderland have no history? We have a better one than newcastle you clown, why bring sunderland into it its a stoke fan talking rubbish,we have been champions more times than stoke and newcastle put together, our attendance record is 75,000 yours 68,ooo ,we are England's 6th most successful club you 8th.History lesson over.

Agree4 Disagree3

Haha history lesson over, listen to this mug. 6th most successful team in the country. Love it when boys just make up pure lies.

Agree1 Disagree2

Go on wikipedia type in history of sunderland a.f.c. also google or look on middlesbrough rumours here and someone has posted a fifa-uefa list.

Agree3 Disagree0

To be honest I'm a mackem but that list is stupid how it works newcastle have won more because of fa cups with sunderland winning more league titles and that scores more, history is pretty much equal I sh.

Agree2 Disagree0

Newcastle fans harp on league tables don't lie, well sunderland beat Newcastle in the premier league table for god knows how many seasons now stopped counting, and sunderland are above newcastle in FIFA/UEFA table of most successful clubs.League table does not lie.Lastly where are Stoke city in there? poor mans Wimbledon.

Agree2 Disagree0

Where is that list from actually fifa? Why was it posted on middlesbrough rumours (via other clubs) as middlesbrough are not even on it are they, well just near bottom.

I am by no means an Ashley fan, I would like him and Llambias to leave and let the club move forward with a new owner.

Ashley was right to react to Barton relentlessly using Twitter to voice every single thought that entered his head, getting rid might not be the best idea though, I personally would still like to see him stay.

Having said that, I am not as disappointed as most with how this summer has gone. So far we have signed 5 players (Cabaye, Marveaux, Ba, Abeid, Obertan) that potentially could be very good for us for a few years to come. Obertan never really got a chance at United and I think he is a decent winger with much needed pace. If we can get Pieters then I think we should be able to build on last season. Let's not forget we also have Ben Arfa and Gosling coming back - I'm praying Ben Arfa gets and stays fit

All we need then is someone to put the ball in the back of the net. Come on guys, finish off this team with a big name striker Unless we really think that Ameobi, Best and co are going to do it? Lets go all out and then stuff a low-on-confidence Arsenal and an always-over-confident-think-they-are-bigger-than-they-are-bunch-of-s-m-b's

Tiote is back at Newcastle according to the sheilds Gazette, He will not be involved in ivory coast game against Israel and is happy to be back and ready to slay Arsenal who are missing, Van Persie, Vermalen, Wilshere and possibly Fabregas and Nasri could be out depending on transfer dealings.

Newcastle have been told they need to pay 14 million for roman pavyluchenko. I think this is overpriced and we should look elsewhere for Rondon and Djajo :D what do you think ed ? I would like to see kerrison arrive too {Ed001's Note - I wouldn't touch Pavlyuchenko myself, he just doesn't impress me at all, why not go for Crouch if it is just a big man needed. Though he is not much better either.}

HAHA Tottenham are being a bit hypocritical just now. They are unhappy that Real want 20m for Lassana Diarra as they feel he is only worth 14m.

Yet they have told us if we want Pavlyuchenko we need to cough up 14m Come on the guy is good but he is 29 and not even worth 10m.

It annoys me cos I think he is a good player, yet Spurs dont give him enough opportunities. I reckon he would be good at the like of Toon but not at that kind of money.

Could prob get Sturridge for that and would be a no-brainer.

Geo

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Alright Geo. I have to say you are one of the most realsitic posters on this site. Your posts are never too far fetched but at the same time positive. I agree with your pavlychenko anaylsis, but think he will be out our budget. Can you shed any light on cheaper targets you think.

Dave

Agree5 Disagree0

He is actully 25 but still dont like him -DP

Agree0 Disagree1

He was born in 1981, so he is actually 29.

Agree1 Disagree0

He was born on 15/12/1981, so my calculations make him 29 mate, not the 25 you are branding about.

Dave

Agree2 Disagree0

Thanks for the comment Dave, appreciate it.

I think the fact that we havent matched a bid for Shane Long at £7m shows what we are willing to pay for a Striker. However that doesnt mean we won't bid this kind of money for a proven prem striker like Defoe/Sturridge.

I just can see us spending 10m + on anyone, even Sturridge who with his pre-season form is probably worth £15m just now.

Realistic Ins:
Yannick Djalo - 5-7m
Keirrison - 3m
Teteh Bangura - 3m (work permit issues)
Ola Toivonen - 6-8m

These players we have been linked with and are in our price bracket I think are what we should be looking for to assist BA.

I have a feeling that this week could be a turning point in stamping a successful season ahead.

I think Obertan will be confirmed today, but also a Striker and Defender could be coming through the door. Things are too quiet at St James' which makes me think there are dealings?

I also think we will keep Enrique and also Barton, however whether they sign new contracts remains to be seen. The reason i think this will happen is I think the club are trying to spend a bit now to show there intent in the hope of impressing unsettled players. (not Barton tho)

Geo

Believable6 Unbelievable1

Here Here, Fingers crossed

Dave

Agree0 Disagree0
