good result but obertan is a disgrace can't pass the ball 5yards how is he a pro footballer it makes me laugh, he shouldn't be near a football pitch. thank god ben arfa is back mbiwa and haidara played v. well.

I agree, I know he wasn't/isn't the best but last night was shocking. I don't know why we are playing him for, or even how he makes the team sheet. I would have put Santon in his place instead, would work out for the better. it couldn't possibly get any worse than him
Marv in my eyes was the same, not playing to the standards that we know he can do.
HBA didn't look the player he was, but i'm putting that down to him been rusty

I have to agree to the comments regarding Obertan.
Sir Alex does't get rid of players for nothing.
Obertan is like a rabbit in the headlights when he runs towards goal, his distribution and crosses are terrible.
I'm all for giving any players a chance, but I think he has had enough chances.
On the game itself, thought we were very well organised and looked confident, but they are still a massive threat.

Marv is not getting enough time on the pitch he needs a few full games

Obertan seems too be very smart away from football but when he plays he looks brainless.

Very happy with tonights result, holding anzhi at home with their world class manager and world class eto'o who didn't really get in the game. We defended superbly and hopefully we can finish them off at home. We will be able to play with more freedom, confidence and plus Anzhi won't be used to playing against a team with 12 players, as our passionate and loud home crowd could make a difference!

Can they play on grass? they didn't look that good on artificial turf.

Just a few short of your home attendance!

Mbiwa is immense, I am still in a state of semi-shock that he joined us with him being tracked by AC. Milan, Manchester United & others.
We are very lucky to have him, what a signing.
Colo & Taylor are a good pairing, but one of them has to drop for Mbiwa, he is world class. (When both are fit)
Sissoko is getting a lot of attention and rightly so, but for me Mbiwa has been our signing of the season.
0-0 is a great score, I thought Obertan looked like a different player when he was taken off the wing and played more running from deep in the latter stages of the game.
Ameobi was rubbish, he was fed a beautiful ball that he could have run behind their back line, but I am still not sure what he tried to do, anyways it ended in him nearly falling over the ball as usual.

I think an away goal wouldn't of been too much to ask for.
Possibly the most boring game there has ever been in the competition.

Marveaux gave the ball away more than Obertan.
I would normally complain, but this was a very narrow pitch they were playing on, and Anzi were not giving our players a moment on the ball.
The particular part of the park Marveaux was playing in led him to being surrounded everytime he touched the ball.

An away goal wouldn't have been too much to ask for?
I do not mean to be disrespectful, but do you know who Anzi are?
They currently have the highest paid player in the world, and think nothing of spending 30 million on a player.
We just got a draw away from home at one of Europe's top clubs.
You do not attack teams that have a more expensive squad away from home when you have a 2nd tie to play.

Highest paid player in the world? You sure about that

Eto'o is on 350k per week

Yes ETO is the highest paid player in the world.

Bit unfair for Anzhi though playing at a neutral ground I front of 5k fans and around 20 geordies lol.

I do not mean to be disrespectful, but do you know who Anzi are?
Yes I do know who Anzhi are if they score the first goal we've then got to attack them and score two leaving us open to the counter attack.
One shot on target and one off target is awful against any team.

Good team selection by AP, good to see benny. Very confident with sissoko up front, that was certainly a good move and one I wasn't expecting. Bit worried with perch centre back, up against maybe eto traore willian. Very string line up from anji. But i'm confident! c'mon LA TOON AMI.

Whats everyones thoughts on Ricky Lambert and is there any chance of Toon signing him. He is a good player and gets into the space well and converts at a good ratio?
I am sure though there was a reason why he won't sign for the Toon, or am I thinking of another Saints player that has an issue with Pardew?

This is the big day (again)
We have the doubters, that think we will screw this up
We have the haters, who think we will get a spanking
ANd we have the Toon faithfull in strength as wall ways behind the team.
And prediction on the score tonight?
1-3 (to the toon) Shola, HBA, Cabaye (pen)

Three nil to Anzhi is my prediction don't think Taylor will be able to handle Eto'o, I expect Pardew to play Simpson RB and he'll be up against Willian who I think will be man of the match, Ameobi is bad enough on grass so he'll probably be even worse on a surface he's been told not to play on.
The only chance we've got of scoring is if Sissoko or Hatem (if he plays) makes something out of nothing.
Or maybe we will score from a corner. oh wait Cabaye will be taking them.

Why would Cabaye score a pen when Ameobi takes them?
