I think to give ben arfa more freedom we should play 4-5-1, with him on the left, but for that we need one more defencive midfielder. . .

Abeid looked pretty good today and looks like hes got a big future ahead of him

surely after todays performance pards will drop obertan for HBA. Im not holding my breath though...

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Obertan is a class act. Just give him time. He will prove you all wrong. Trust me.

Agree6 Disagree11

I don't know how many times i can click disagree, obertan is awful, he's being given half a season and has failed to impress.

Agree3 Disagree3

I think Obertan is a good player - he played week in week out for 13 odd games when we hadnt lost and so we can hardly say he hasnt contributed. I think the thing is it either goes or it doesnt for him - his style either catches the oppent full backs out or they see him coming a mile off. He should continue, but Ben Arfa should play off the striker as part of a 5 man midfield as he did today.

Agree1 Disagree6

But ben arfa changed the game when he went out onto the right. Obertan is awful, hes had half a season and played 1 or 2 good games, he cant pass, cross or take anyone, time to drop him

Agree6 Disagree1

At the risk of being slated i think Obertan has potential just not as a winger!. I honestly think with his pace he should be up front. Worth trying isn't it cause he defo can't cross anygood.

Agree0 Disagree1

Obertan is still young enough to improve too! he may have been around a while but hes not that old so still think he has a good future at nufc....spenny mag

Lets have some perspective about the Demba Ba alleged release clause.

The media and others thought we would struggle this year, so a release clause was always likely - like he did at West Ham. And lets face it, we have based our recruitment policy around these clauses so we can't complain!

Assuming the clause exists, why would he want to leave and where would he go? We are 7th in the league with a shout at Europe next season, He's the main man and the team plays around him, and he seems to get on well with the manager and his team mates.

Looking at the table, there are only a few clubs that could attract him in England. And in those clubs he would have far greater competition for a place. Remember, the player actually has to want to leave and there are no signs of that so far.

Also bear in mind that even if the buy out clause is as low as £10million, thats £10million profit on a freebie. Still good business.

Finally, who knows what conditions there are on the clause? Could be that he can only be sold abroad or only to a Champions League team or only if we finish bottom half / relegated etc etc. Ashley may not be popular but he rarely leaves his butt hanging out to dry financially so stay calm.

My guess is that this will come to a head in summer when he'll either leave for a CL club or he'll sign a massive new contract. Until then, enjoy!

Also - last but not least - whatever happens, he won't be going anywhere near Sunderland unless he wants to buy a carpet.

Tottenham easy decision, they 3rd not 7th and are a big force, easy decision, who knows even man utd, chelsea,liverpool might go for him

Agree1 Disagree2

All teams above newcastle wanting strikers can all offer european football and most importantly HIGHER wages

Agree2 Disagree2

Since when has mike ashley offered massive contracts ba probably only on about 30k

Agree1 Disagree1

Like karen brady said if the moneys there he will go

Agree1 Disagree0

Part of the release clause At west ham was that the that signed had to offer him his 80 k a week to trigger it

just a thought about this so called release clause for demba ba . surely we need to find out where that spiv redknapp got his info from and if he dont have a clause the club should come out and say so either way ...ED ABOUT redknapp is there not a rule at the FA about this sort of thing going on hoping you can clarify this for us...geordie tom {Ed001's Note - that would depend on how he got his info.}

Regarding Ba and this so called Buy out clause. If it is in his contract and what ever the value is, it is still no guarantee even if it is met that the player would leave. He doesn't have to if he doesn't want to sign for the club that meets the price, or he could not agree to personal terms. Furthermore Ba is heading to Africa for a month, when do you suppose he would do a medical?? So just calm down. if this was to happen it would likely be a summer move.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

He can do a medical over there you they have medical facilities in africa too

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes i understand that Africa has medical facilities, but surely clubs would want some extended time at their own grounds on a player with his history. And i am not sure his national team would take kindly to someone else putting him through the ringer when he is playing training with them.

Ed, can you tell me if I'm right in thinking that a player can't play for three teams in a year meaning Ba wouldn't be able to go anywhere this window? {Ed001's Note - they can only play for 2 teams, though I think emergency loans are allowable.}

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Thanks Ed. Hopefully people will stop worrying about what harry said and look forward to his return from the ACN. (till the summer at least lol)!

Agree2 Disagree0

Is that a year as the whole of 2011.. Or a 365 day period.. Westham got him last January we got him July and it's now January.. That's a year in my book

Agree0 Disagree0

Its 365 days. He was a west ham player in the last transfer window and then we signed him so couldn't go anywhere till at least the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

So what happens if Westham signed him on the 7th January... We could sell him in the 15th..... More than 365 days.. I agree with above post... £10m if true must be attached to relegation, CL etc etc

Loads of rumours flying about saying Tottenham having been looking at Demba Ba and Harry Redknapp said in an interview they were looking at him. Apparently he's got a clause in his contract aswell any truth in that ed? {Ed001's Note - I don't know about the contract, but Spurs have certainly been sniffing around of late.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They wouldn't pay million's for Ba...they're too worried about his knee...they wouldn't even take him for free last summer...
