Just watching MOTD, very good passion from pardew and the players. Cisse sheer class. Pardew celebrating with the crowd is fantastic for the fans and players confidence. Exactly what we need, marv was brill. whether it was 442 or 4231 I don't know but we played fantastic football, so hopefully we can take that to benfica and sunderland. Beat benfica 2-0 and thrash 3-0
Geordie Moses

Believable9 Unbelievable2

Yeah, I was very impressed with our passing play. Marveaux was fantastic right mid or right win whatever. anoth win and maybe a draw and we're safe.

Can someone tell me what formation today? because on tv and nufcblog it said we played 442 but on MOTD apparently we played 4231. Can someone tell me for sure? because I got really excited at us playing 442 and it working.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

We started with a 4-4-2.

When Santon went of injured, the formation was switched to 4-2-3-1.

So most of the game it was 4-2-3-1

people keep knocking pardew but we have played more games than most teams. its bound to show on the players. also bad run of injuries. if you seen him today run to the crowd that was pure passion that to me means a lot. well done lads

Believable6 Unbelievable1

If u play more games than most, then you should win more games than most. we dont!

I personally think that Danny Simpson deserves a lot of praise today. He knows what his situation is with the club but he's put in two good performances this week with 100% effort, although he will be leaving us I think he will be missed, especially when we need to rely on a fringe.

Believable8 Unbelievable2

He adds nothing to our game, he filled in where he needed to. Didn't do a lot wrong though, not criticising, just saying he's not exactly the hero of the day.

Agree4 Disagree3

He is putting a shift in because he was playing against his potential employers today.

His crossing is still useless.

But to be fair he has done okay for us over the years, but onwards and upwards.

Agree5 Disagree2

He put a great cross in for Shola (which he missed) and he played a great pass for the goal against Benfica. Simpson has been playing very well, better than Stanton at the moment

I'm not trying to be cocky here or being deluded like sunderland fans, but you can tell by todays performance that we are a top 8 side. Why? I don't see fulham getting 10 or 11 men behind the ball against sunderland, west ham, etc. Hopefully this new 442 system where the defence push up, can drive us on for a 10th place finish with a Derby win, and wins against Liverpool and arsenal, because we looked very threatening today. Ameobi had a good game and looked Sharp, maybe he could start up top with cisse and gouffran on the left. But although cisse didn't have the best game, he certainly looked more comfortable in the 442 where the defence pushes up and the midfielders are closer to the strikers. Plus mbiwa had his best game I think. Marveaux was decent as well.
Team for benfica:
4411
Elliot
Simpson Taylor Mbiwa Anita
Marveaux Cabaye Tiote Jonas
Sissoko
Cisse
Team for scumderland:
442
Krul

Debuchy/Simpson
Taylor
Mbiwa
Santon/Jonas/Anita

Marveaux
Cabaye
Sissoko
Gouffran

Cisse
The Mackem slayer

Tiote needs to prove himself worthy of a start against sunderland by having a good game against benfica and not giving away stupid fouls or possession.

Geordie Moses

Believable6 Unbelievable6

Ameobi held the ball up quite well a few times, but he is nowhere near good enough to be playing upfront for us.

Gouffran as Cisse's partner is a no brainer, Gouffran would have scored today too if it were not for an illegal handball on the line.

Agree6 Disagree0

Here you go again 1 win a last second goal for the third time. Get real man be a supporter of Newcastle but stop talking shyte

Agree4 Disagree7

Yeah but we should of won the game 3-0 and we deserved the late goal and it was sheer class. Go back to your deluded site mr mackem.

Agree7 Disagree2

We deserved to win one nil. just one nil. hitting the post doesn't warrant a goal, that's why hitting the post doesn't count as a goal!

one nil was the score, and that's what was deserved!

Agree5 Disagree1

Hand ball on the line deserved a goal, nobody seems to be mentioning that

Agree3 Disagree1

It doesn't matter what the score should have or could have been; 3 points in the bag and 3 more against the Mackems give us 39 and we should be safe. If we do that then we play the last few games without looking over our shoulder and push on. 3 goals on Thursday would be nice mind!

Cisse was not having the best of days BUT the sign of a Top Striker is that they never give up or hide, Take a Bow Papiss, well deserved winning goal.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

He was having his usual bad game but got the winner and a good one so we carry on with this lad But he needs some coaching and we NEED a regular scorer not someone who misses more than he scores

Agree5 Disagree4

He did miss a couple of good chances, he is not going to take us to the top, but he finished well today. Eventually.

Agree3 Disagree2

1 goal in every 2 games he plays upfront makes him a ''regular scorer. ''

Agree0 Disagree1

If you take last season out of that statistic you get a very different picture, and if you look at the plethora of chances that he misses you'll see he's not what he was last season.

I think they care more about how animated di canio is on the touchline than sunderland slipping into relegation! haha LOL

Believable10 Unbelievable0

Well let's face it its not really a surprise that sunderland are in relegation scrap, a lot of people I know predicted at the start of the season they'd be relegated. They are what they are, a mid table team (or perhaps relegation fighting team), and mid table teams have to go down like once every couple of seasons.

Agree7 Disagree2

Yeh same as you's a mid table team, no better, only difference you are lucky 3 injury time goals, some of you still think you deserve top six lmfao

Agree2 Disagree3

Is it lucky to score in the first minute? Or is it that u start bright? No diff if you score in last! Plonker

Starting to think Adam Campbell is our lucky charm.

That is the 3rd time he has came on in the 80th minute, and the 3rd time we have won the game late on.

Man of that Match has to be between Marveaux and Mbiwa, both were top class.

Cisse's goal was incredible, the first touch to take it over the defenders was similar to Bergkamp.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Glad Cisse scored because he was a lĂșa liability before that
He has not scored many but what he has scored were vital
Fulham Came for a point Nd packed their defence & were Lucky the ref did not see the hand ball
Great Result Best team won
Another 2 wins at Home this week & we are through in Europe & Safe in the premiership
Well played lads good footy for a change
Seb

Agree5 Disagree1

Have to laugh at the Sunderland fans coming onto our page and hitting the disagree button.

That is the only joy they are getting out of their football at the moment, hahah

Agree6 Disagree3

Today was just like last season, playing higher up the pitch although it's risky and we'll sometimes get caught out it's worth it couple of good saves from Krul a little bit of last ditch tackling from Yanga-Mbiwa and giving our midfield more freedom.

Also showed why Cisse needs someone up top with him we created a lot of chances and another striker may of scored but we need to keep Cisse as he comes up with the important goals.

I've not been happy with Pardew but credit to him, positive subs and it paid off.

Agree4 Disagree0

Another goal by Cisse soon he will be converting more of his chances, I think he worries too much needs to start smiling again and relax

MY WORD HE'S DONE IT AGAIN! well done papiss!

And you can't say we didn't deserve it, hit the post 3 times, so unlucky, any other day we would of hammered fulham with those chances. it was quite frustrating in the first half as it seemed we were letting ruiz and berbetov link up. But I wasn't watching the game, can someone tell me who were watching the game whether we were playing good football? because it certainly seemed that the 4-4-2 worked.

I'm not going to get my hopes up too much though, as we still need to beat sunderland and then get a draw, BY playing good football, to ensure we are safe.

Geordie Moses

Believable8 Unbelievable2

Fulham were never really in the game, they had a few sniffs here and there, but Mbiwa was calm, cool and collected as always.

It was wave of attack after attack from us most of the game.

There was no phases during the game where we did not look the stronger side.

Marveaux's confidence has grown and he looked the best player on the pitch.

Agree6 Disagree0

Our defence played higher which let our midfield play closer to Cisse and it made a lot of difference.
We were passing the ball a lot more than usual and created good chances, Marveaux was brilliant, Jonas had his best game of the season, Yanga-Mbiwa was solid, Krul made a couple of important saves and Anita and Gouffran had very good games.
A little worrying how many chances we missed but we got the three points in the end.

Agree6 Disagree0

We just got unlucky today, but played fantastic, and on another day with all those chances we would of scored. Great performance, get a win against 5under1and and a draw against west brom and we're safe, but hopefully we can beat benfica, because we'll be up for it, and if we do progress through Europe, that will give us the confidence and motivation to really hammer sunderland.

Agree5 Disagree0

Cheers guys! I'm excited for match of the day tonight!
Geordie moses-a happy geordie :)

Played higher because they have no pace up top! Only reason.

I am watching the game and we are poor. This has been the same story all season and it is the same excuses over and over. Pardew is not a tactical genius, and we need to be mixing it up a bit and not playing a predictable style for each match.

Believable0 Unbelievable8

What game were you watching?

We have been all over them.

It should have been about 3-0, not including them hand balling Gouffran's goal of the line.

Agree6 Disagree0

This bloke won't be happy unless we are relegated then he can moan all night and all day

Agree7 Disagree1

Think he was streaming the match from outer space. I watched the game we played higher up the pitch won the second ball a lot more my man of the match mbiwa. geordie tom

Agree6 Disagree0

What are you on about?
The first half was a tad frustrating but in the 2nd half we dominated them and put them under pressure! on any other day we would of won 3-0. The deluded mackems say we were lucky but in actual fact we deserved our win! it was sheer class from cisse anyway!

Agree5 Disagree0

I think he was watching paolo di canio's first game as sunderland manager.

Agree1 Disagree1

07 Apr 2013 16:19:49
Cisse is really frustrating to watch, I really think he should be dropped and Goufran should be playing up top or dare I say it Shola.

Whilst he bangs in the incredible now and again, he is far from reliable.

Believable3 Unbelievable5

Gouffran is being played up top.

Agree7 Disagree0

Still saying that about cisse?

Agree7 Disagree2

Eat your words.

He has done it again.

Agree5 Disagree5

I prefer my centre forward not to leave it til 90+ mins. and i'd also like him to put away more than 1 in 6 chances. needs to improve loads!

Agree6 Disagree4

2 goals in his last 2 games, some people will never be happy.

Cisse is the first centre forward I have been happy with at Newcastle for about 4 or 5 seasons now.

Agree5 Disagree3

Cisse has just been unlucky all season, he's had no supply all season because of our injuries. But when he does, he either scores or hits the post, what more can you ask?

Agree5 Disagree3

Hitting the post is just as useful as putting it into the stratosphere.
The Original Poster is dead right, just because he finished right at the last with a great effort, doesn't mean that he had an amazing game. He still missed a couple of good chances and could have set up Marveaux at least once.

Agree1 Disagree3

Cisse reminds me of Andy Cole at Manu, takes 5 chances to find the back of the net.

Agree1 Disagree0

Unlucky all season?! What rubbish, you make your own luck.

Why is Adam Campbell starting to be ignored again?

He got 2 sub appearences, came on with minutes left to go, and the team scored in both of those games after he came on.

He had an indirect hand in both of those goals too.

In my book that is more than Shola has done all season.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Interesting to see us going 442. Hopefully pardew will set the team up right so we play football like we did last year, and not play hoofball! Hopefully this is what will happen: Gouffran will come short, cisse will go long, sissoko and cabaye will rotate between themselves on who attacks and who stays back. Jonas will stay back and occasionally at throw ins help the attack. Marveaux will do some tracking back but will supply cisse and link up with cabaye, sissoko, gouffran. Debuchy and santon help assist in attacks. Marveaux and cabaye cut in and supply cisse or play through gouffran.

Lets stay positive and get behind the lads and we can win today!

Team i'd like to see for today:
--------------------Krul------------------------
Anita-----Taylor---------M'Biwa-----Santon
Sissoko----Perch-------Cabaye-------Jonas
-------------Cisse------Gouffran-------------
How the hell can we not play with this formation now with a better squad when we could do at the start of 11/12 and dominated teams? Whenever we play 442 now we look so vulnerable and lackluster. If we don't play 442 then use this

Krul

Anita
M'Biwa
Taylor
Santon

Sissoko
Perch

Marveaux
Cabaye
Gouffran

Cisse

Please pardew just play cabs in the CAM role, he works wonders there and gives cisse loads of support!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I would like to see a 4-1-3-2

Cisse is stranded up there on his own, and I think the extra deep protecting midfielder is going to waste and just inviting teams into our half.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Apr 2013 11:59:39
What do we work on in training?

Defence? If so Pardew and the coaches need sacking because we're awful at defending and the way we set up in defence is basic, sit as deep as possible and let other teams come onto us.

Attack? Again very poor in attack, we basically rely on Ben Arfa to do something special, Cabaye to score a free kick or Cisse to score from the very few chances he gets.

Set pieces? We're dreadful from set pieces I've never seen a team so pathetic from them in all the time I've been watching football. The cross is usually poor then the players who should be attacking the cross do very little Taylor doesn't have a clue what he's doing, Mbiwa makes no real effort, Sissoko is useless despite being six two, Santon is petrified of messing his hair up so stays back and Cisse and Gouffran have no presence in the box.

Keeping possession? Definatly not as we struggle to put five passes together most of our players need at least five touches before passing and we usually surrender possession easily.

Fitness? Not well enough after twenty minutes against Benfica we looked knackered despite the not putting any real effort in against City previously.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Absolutely right if we can not coac the defence to defend & get rid of the ball in their own area as well as Cisse to score week in week out they need go ASAP because this seasOn has been woeful

Agree4 Disagree0

Agreed! I don't know how we did so well last season! We got found out this season, and pardew has no plan B! We need a manager (unless pardew gets his act together) who can give us attractive football to watch, and actually something we can enjoy watching for 90mins, not something that's so frustrating when you're just shouting at the TV! 442, we play hoofball. 4231, we play good football but get panicky. 4231 at home, it looks like our team from last season. 4231 away, referee is always against us, but pardew sets the team up too defensively.

Look at west brom, they're doing better than swansea and are playing fantastic football. And their squad is not even as good as ours even with our injuries.

its so annoying, pardew needs to prove himself worthy of the job by winning these two games and keep our home form good, then we'll be fine.

Agree2 Disagree0

We are terrible at set pieces but you cannot blame Mbiwa or Sissoko.

Taylor goes up for set pieces, Mbiwa stays back so how can you blame him?

For me Mbiwa has been our most consistent player and our best signing, we are very lucky to have a player of his quality.

Sissoko has probably been out best player at winning headers, so I do not know where you are getting that from.

The problem with our set pieces is the movement, the players try the same thing every time.

The team are not trained with any kind of idea in mind for corners, the idea is to just lump it in and hope the ball drops lucky.

big game for you lads today a win and I think it will more or less put you safe anything else and its alarm bells ringing although there are a few sunderland fans thinking di canio will work miracles today I can't see us getting anything today and thou not sounding bias our 5 games which I think we can get something from start next week in the derby. if wigan win today and neither of us win today next weeks derby could be the most important in both our clubs history. well lads let's hope we can both get something today as i'm one of those lads who think the premier league needs teams like sunderland and Newcastle in it.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Next weeks game would not be the most important game in our clubs history, we have been relegated before, and even in the very unlikely scenario that we lost against Fulham then played you, it would still not be the defining game. I can see 38 points keeping teams safe this season as Stoke are dire. Sunderland get to play Stoke, that should be your big chance.

We are not in this relegation battle, our squad is just too good, no one at Newcastle is truly worried this time.

It is a whole different prospect for you lot though.

I actually think Di Canio is a good appointment, you had to roll the dice, there was no other option.

And the news that Di Canio can be let go if you get relegated is good news as that leaves your options open.

I was gutted when Newcastle went down, but I have to be honest, I ended up enjoying our season in the Championship, winning every week is a nice feeling.

You have to be good enough to bounce straight back though, and that does not happen as regular as it should with premier league sides that drop down.

Agree1 Disagree0

If you think about it, since our new signings our home form has really picked up as we've won every single BPL game at home since the new signings. So I don't really have any worries about our next 2 games against fulham and sunderland, although I do have a worry that pardew and the team will crumble under pressure and start playing hoofball then we lose stupid games. If we play like we did against chelsea, then we should sail past fulham probs 1-0 or 2-1, then comfortably beat sunderland 3-0. Di Canio brings motivation, but how do you know he's going to do well. If you lose against newcastle and stoke, then your down.

Agree1 Disagree0

With your defence you are not going to keep clean sheets, your goals against are among the worst in the prem, so in the real world you won't sail past any team.

Agree1 Disagree0

Well i'm a newcastle fan and i'm massively worried about relegation!

Agree2 Disagree0

Some sensible banter for a change good luck to both sides today lads
