newcastle should definelty try and get sturridge on loan. chelsea have agreed a fee with anderlecht for romelu lukaku, who is another striker at the club. sturridge will not get in the team with anelka drogba torres kalou and now lukaku as strikers

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Just been on sky sports, sturridge scored two against rangers yesterday and defo stopping at chelsea. so lets forget about him and keep hoping we get a quality striker in. if we get a good striker and areplacement for jose and barton stays ,we will do ok

first: why not keep enrique till the end of
the season and find someone to
cover for him in january??
second: why try to bring a player
(a striker) inwhen the player is not
interested to play for us??

Just want to try and instill a bit of confidence regarding the signing of Obertan. I keep hearing Fergie wouldn't let him go if he was any good blah blah.... The lad asked to leave in January in order to get first team football but due to the Valencia injury they said no, now I know the price is cheap considering the current British market however let's look at some players who left Man Utd to gain first team football. Shawcross - Bargain for Stoke and is now valued between 10 & 20 million being chased by Liverpool etc.... Rossi - Has done nothing but score for Villareal and would command a hefty fee to prise away. Pique - Don't need say anything as he is at the heart of the defence of the best team in the world, Tevez - Again nothing needs saying, Veron - Awesome at Chelsea, Forlan - Scores a hell of a lot playing regular. So in a whole when you think back our current board has made more good signings than bad even though yes there are a handful who have been garbage so let's give the lad a chance as a lot of so called Man Who rejects have gone on to do more than well given time and games......come on the TOON, support the team not slate everything that goes on we could always be Sunderland fans which we know would always be much worse.

Good post mate

Agree0 Disagree0

That of course only applies to the young Manu send-offs not the rubbish ones they keep for some reason till they're thirty then sell them on.

Agree1 Disagree1

Can you not see how sad your comment is. Try writing an original post.
Its a pity you wernt given more homework for the holidays.

Agree0 Disagree0

The thing is with Obertan.. He showed a lot of potential when he was getting first team football at United but then he dropped off. He is a decent player with room to improve and hopefully he can do that here.

Also, look at his competition at Man U.. Nani. How is he going to get into the quad over arguably the best winger in the league last season?

Agree0 Disagree0

They keep them there till theyre 30 because theyre good

why was smith left out of the game against Fiorentina?
Lufc were rubbish today so maybe just maybe that'll convince tightwad Bates to do a deal for Smithy (I wish)

Getting frustrated with my fellow NUFC supporters on the subject of the squad.
Screams of "the squads to small, got no depth,we have sold our best players"
Facts
We have sold Nolan,Routledge and released Cambell,Kuigi.would you want to buy any of themif to boost the squad??
We have secured 3 International players and look like we have secured a 4th International player plus the 2 players in the shape of HBA and DG.
The emergence of exciting young players to boost the squad has been the best news we have had for years.( contrast the help so called players with premiership experience contributed Owen Viduka
Please dont resort to Enrique/Batman to carry on your message of gloom they are still at the club and we can assess what is being put in place to cover their role in the squad.

It is a strong possibility that Obertan will flourish at Newcastle. He has the ability to become a good player, Manchester United wouldn't have signed if he didnt have the ability; nor would he have been lauded as the new Ronaldo if he didnt have some talent. With regular first team action at Newcastle (he doesnt have much competition) he can build his confidence and demonstrate his abilites.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Alot of Man United fans don't want him to leave after the pre-season he's had so must be alright.

A read that man u fans just wanted loan him out, they think he could be top notch,in time

Leeds losin 2 0 at the Dell what they need is a SMITHY

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Please give us smithy if I was ken bates and I wanted the fans off my back I'd get mr smith in

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know why we insist on hanging on to him. I like Smith, but his work here is done. He proved last season that he can't play at this level anymore, constantly getting booked if and when he comes on.

He'd still do a job in the Championship, he did for us since you can get away with more, so we might as well let him go. Doubt it though.

Wages might be a problem too, not sure how much of a cut he'd take, or how your finances are.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ken Bates is flittering our cash away on the corporate side of the club but Gradel and Snodgrass looked distinctly disinterested yesterday and have long been linked with moves away. if we could sell either or both for decent money we could offer better wages but I'm a bit doubtful myself - couldn't even tempt Keith Andrews or Lee Bowyer lol
A shame really, as you say he's unlikely to play much and would kick arse in the Championship.

Well i think after his recent displays between the posts maybe Pardew should sell Forster to Celtic for the 1m he was offered. Absolutely crap at Leeds and today, weather permitting obviously, but is miles behind Krul. Krul number 1 and Harper 2. Oberton on monday,is that Pardews exciting signing? Hope not STRIKER needed Mr. Pardew, a STRIKER

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Forster was said to be alright when he came on however still think Krul is number 1.

Agree0 Disagree0

Krul number 1, Forster number 2 for me.. Harper is getting on and probably won't have many seasons left in him. He's also pretty accident prone himself.

Need to develop Forster for when Harper quits, or buy in someone better as cover for Krul.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just tops off a great pre-season...NOT.

Agree1 Disagree0

Sums up our pre-season perfectly... Waste of time.

Agree1 Disagree0

Ashley 2 blame lol

Agree4 Disagree0

I've heard from a reliable source that the game was going to be called off before half time but Ashley forced the game to continue so he could make more money on the half time refreshments. At £3.60 a hotdog he believes the additional funds acquired would enable us to be more competitive in the transfer market.

Agree1 Disagree0

Omg if Ashley wasn't so greedy gambling all our money in the casino we'd have better drainage so the pitch wouldn't become unplayable.

Ashley won't splash the cash so we can sign some decent cover for our main drainage which is why we're going to struggle to maintain our pitch during adverse weather.. We have no depth.

Get out of our club Ashley.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant really complain considering several streets in the city centre had quite a few inches of rain flooding them

And that is Ashleys fault as well.

If the Obertan rumour is true i will be very dissappointed. He is a terrible player and isnt needed, if Fat Mike thinks this will keep the fans happy he is very rong. He is a Man Utd reject, and can be a half decent squad player at best, i would rather have kept routledge. Pardew will claim that money has been spent, they are clutching at straws because no1 wants to come to newcastle in its current state. Any opinions?

Believable0 Unbelievable7

Disagree think he will do us proud.

Agree2 Disagree1

Yeah my opinion is I agree about Obertan being rubbish starts running with the ball and doesn't look where he's going and rarely crosses. I know that if he was going to Sunderland our fans would laugh at them and call him a Man U reject.

Agree3 Disagree4

I think your wrong mate obertan is a hell of a player. he is very skillfull and will link up well with th otha french lads. if we get him allot of people will be surprised. he is easily as good as marveax and probably more skillfull though not a better player than ben arfa

Agree6 Disagree2

Defo signing monday, heard it on newcastle commentary on todays game, bbc newcastle.

Agree4 Disagree4

Pardrew has confirmed deal nearly complete in press conference after the match

Agree3 Disagree0

If obertan was a hell of player, skillfull, and we will be surprised why is saf selling and only wanting 3mill cant be that good and to say he is as good as marveaux and more skillfull than ben arfa doesn't show them as very good. big mike has seen how happy all the mackems are with there man utd lads so he thinks signing someone from man utd will heal the rift WRONG

Agree1 Disagree2

Soz lads just read my post back, its definately obertan signing monday heard it on newcastle game commentary today. (defo being short for definately, not defoe)

Agree3 Disagree0

If someone can quote what pardew said i will be grateful, cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

I am man utd fan and is glad to see obertan at newcastle as i don't rate him as a player what so ever

{Ed042's Note} Just a quick post lads.. been a lot of good posts, footie chat and quality banter being ruined by simple abuse as of late.. we have been letting it go but end of the day want the site to be quality content above quantity and have a very good reputation for both rumours and banter.. nobody wants to read pages of ill thought out abuse at the end of the day, just repetitive and boring

Same goes for rumours.. posts along the lines of Les Ferdinands mothers brothers granny is coming out of retirement to partner Ba up front just wont be put up.. didnt get that by the way ha but you know what I mean.. keep it to good banter, footie chat and rumours based somewhat in reality, quote a source if possible, things like that you know

Also just a quick mention about the twitter.. people that have followed in the past couple of days have helped the cause a lot in getting good reliable info for when you ask questions.. as you know its a popularity contest on that thing so the more followers I get the better for the site.. so if you can add @keithrtoon and spread the word, get others too as well would really appreciate it lads thanks

said on here about 3 weeks ago and ashley with his shares rumours going round his company have lost 203mill with current crash and more bad news to come next week

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Think its crap totally ashley floted sports direct and made nearly 800 million in a morning but kept him self as ceo and then ran the buisness down and last year rebought majority off shares back and the company (ashley) made another 400 million alone from that again..then bought blacks.dont really like him not spending on top players but give the man credit he knows how to make money and do you honestly believe the man has most of his money tied up in shares...check the times newspaper posts every think here is fact what do you think edd..

{Ed042's Note - There is some truth to the original post, combined with recent reports stating he has pumped approx. 20% of his total worth into Newcastle in four years and a lot of his said 1.3 billion worth is tied up in business and assets.. still no doubt he knows how to make money and is ruthless in doing it, recent Blacks takeover being another prime example of it}

Agree0 Disagree0

Your probably right in some of ed042 but the post about ashley floating sports direct then running it down and re buying shares is true aswell making another 300 to 400 million buying some stock in jd sports aswell as addidas..the problem we have when you buy a football club its not about making money its an expensive hobby and i admit he,s running our club well money wise just he could give the go ahead for a well known proven striker and defender and sel enrique and buy a lb we might stand a chance of doing europe and he would make the money back what do you think agree or disagree

{Ed042's Note - Ah dont think anyone would disagree, pretty obvious we need a good striker, good young back up defender, and if and when enrique goes an adequate replacement, but europe is out of the question this season regardless, even if we did get all them positions sorted will still take a season for the team to have fluidity and real consistency, mid table is the aim, actually think we are in good shape for that if we get even two of them three}

{Ed042's Note - Been thinking the same, along with a lot of others it seems, Lee has come in for a lot of stick as of late, credit where due he does sit down and give webcasts like yesterday which can be good for an insiders opinion but would agree the chronicle need to raise their game}

Believable1 Unbelievable0

They should be asking where the 35m has gone.....why a good centre forward has not been signed?? since we have had since january to sort this i think they lack the bottle to say what most newcastle united fans think......

obertan from man u has agreed a 5-year with newcastle, and will sign for us sometime next week read all of the full story on nufc.com (rubbish singing) pardew said one more good player we are hoping to bring in is the good player obertan- hope not

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Rubbish singing. do we have a song for him lyk ?

Agree0 Disagree1

Obertan, Obertan
Running down the wing,
Obertan, Obertan
Here the geordies sing,
He dominates the left wing he dominates the right,
And all the mackem b*****ds claimed he was f*****g sh**e

what do yous rekon....I tried

Agree8 Disagree0

Im a mackem and i like it mate and for 3 mill dont think ye can loose as you would get that back if he was sold on but from what ive seen and me mates who follow man utd say he hasn't been very good and that is in a very good man utd side.

Agree2 Disagree0

Wasnt sure whether my song would be a fail or not but its going well so far haha

(Smithy434)

Agree0 Disagree0

How about this, slightly more realistic version?
Obertan Obertan
Running with the ball
Obertan Obertan
Oops, another fall
Can't control it with his left
Can't control it with his right
Another pardew signing
That's absolutely s**te

Got a ring to it.

^that was funny to be honest haha

Sorry mate, couldn't resist it. He's not that bad a player. At least he's a known quantum that's got some potential :-)

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2011 10:38:33
i reckon obertan will sign and play today

Believable1 Unbelievable9

Its funny how you all slated us for signing fergies cast off's saying he only gets rid when they are no good, and yes oshea, and brown are older, but he kept them for over ten years so that doesnt suggest to me that they are no good, but a young kid in Obertan is obiously not good enough or he would not be leaving, I think Ashley has got something going with the French, he must be trying to open branches of "sports direct" but he cant till he has a team full of frogs

Agree2 Disagree2

I think the main thing here is that he is a young player who has talent but it would be hard for anyone to get in the man u team apart from tiote but he has potential we are not buying players who are way past their sell by date.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yer he never sold Brown or Oshea because noone wanted them and Oberton has potential but obviously it would be hard for him to break into the first team he has to outshine Nani or Valencia and he wasnt there very long.

Agree0 Disagree0

Newcastles team coming on in leaps and bounds.

Agree2 Disagree0

Looks like the Mackems are getting a bit edgy, you will soon be put to sleep when we put six past you at the Stadium of ..ite

Agree0 Disagree0

Dream on who gonna score for you aint got a fit or decent player there. enrique on way out hba injured again tiote awol barton dummy out of pram who does that leave french nobodies ha ha ha

Agree0 Disagree0

Ameobi cos i do remeber him scoring a hat trick against yous ya fool

Agree0 Disagree0

This whole mackems slagging off obertan is stupid because lets face it the only reason hes leaving is for first team football to advance his career and to leave some where like man u where he could just sit on the bench and get payed shows hes not like most player happy as long as he gets a wage to me this shows drive and a willing to play the game the type of player you wanna sign in my eyes

Agree2 Disagree0

If he was good enough AF wouldnt sell him Fact.

Why should we be edgy, if the team one of your fellow mags posted is your strongest, you really need to sit back and think what you bought, unproven premier league players your team is weaker this season, ours now has depth which we didnt have last season, I think you's are the edgy ones

Agree0 Disagree0

Sad sad sad little mackem do u not have nothing better to do than post comments about nufc cos you really shoot ya self in the foot by saying if he was good enuff he wouldnt get sold so how come brown and o shea where sold hmm cos they werent good enuff and that your words not mine

Agree2 Disagree0

Makems slating obertan but guess what he could sit there and do what brown and oshea done for 5 seasons and sit on the bench and collect medals for nothing but ghess what he preferers first team football..and i believe most sells players that are finished like who the makems bought not every player he gets rid off is crap and lets be honest we had our fair share of old timers off him aswell

Agree1 Disagree0

Brown and osheas obviously werent good enough Thats what you seem to be saying too Good to see your honest haha

Agree0 Disagree0

Keep hearing about shoalas hat trick stop living in the past and look at both squads as they are now safc a lot stronger in depth than nufc FACT

Agree0 Disagree1

Yeah with injuries

Agree1 Disagree0

Obertan actually put a transfer request in, back in February cos he wasn,t prepared to take the cash, sit back and let his career stagnate.Refreshing is't it you could fill this page with NUFC players who didn't have this basic ambition. He will do the business for us.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Aug 2011 10:36:14
Now I'm not a massive fan of Mike Ashley by any means and we all know how many gaffs he has made during his ownership of the club, but I for one cannot understand how Joey Barton can be given any support for his latest antics. He has continually slagged off the owner and club in public the same people that have stood by him when he was being given b&b at the governments expense in Strangeways. Not many people spend months in there and still pick up their £60,000 salary up for doing nothing. Then there was his injuries in the earlier days of his career with us not to forget his abysmal display against Liverpool during Shearers short lived management and his subsequent outburst in the changing room. Yes granted he has pulled his socks up in the last couple of seasons and has been arguably our best player. But, he does not deserve any support and it is clear to see that he is and always will be a pain in the backside which in turn isn't good for the club. So come on lets save any further negative remarks against the club until we see what we have at the start of the season. The current crop of players don't need it, but what they do need is every genuine Toon fan behind them.................

{Ed042's Note - Well said}

ED I was wondering what your thoughts were on the fact that the players we have sold are all English and the signing we are making are all non-English.

Do you think we are taking a risk not bringing home-grown talent?

I'm Scottish myself and think we should have a good ratio of talented English players but also the odd Scot if they are good enough.

Don't get me wrong the French have got a good track record in the Prem League I just think we should start looking at players from the UK now?

Geo

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed042's Note - Its a complicated business this homegrown player rule, posted it a few weeks ago for someone who asked and our heads nearly exploded trying to work it out.. but from what I understand Newcastle arnt one of the clubs in a difficult spot with the rule.. think we have 12 senior players that qualify as homegrown and then any u21s qualify as homegrown regardless of nationality, reason Arsenal arnt in too much hassle with it... agree though if we did keep bringing in foreign talent in a few years time we would have to be careful... personally im not one that is too bothered about where the player comes from, once theyre a good player, and the prices for homegrown players is a bit ludacris at the moment, look at the cash LFC are having to fork out}

any player from man utd on loan is a bad thing saf states if ye dont play him he goes back so if his playing s**te he still plays. if the deals 3 mill buy then give it a go if it doesn't work any sell on should return the 3 mill.
one gary rowell

{Ed042's Note - Apparently if theres an option to buy in loan contract then a player can not be taken back before regardless of whether hes playing or not, looks like it will be a straight signing though}

from nufc.com who don't normally publish anything without any substance to it,

Alan Pardew's mention of an unsuccessful bid for a striker in recent days has again brought forth more emails from readers over in Ireland claiming that Reading's Shane Long remains squarely in the frame - and keen to move.

With no deal concluded for a move anywhere however (and Championship pair Leicester City and West Ham both heavily linked) he's set to lead the attack for the Royals at home to Millwall on Saturday.

Reading boss Brian McDermott said of the player who will become a free agent at the end of this season:

"I said in the week on the radio that we had had no interest from the Premier League, but that is not strictly the case.

“We have had plenty of interest from the Premier League, but we have had no offer as yet. There has obviously been interest in the Championship from West Ham and Leicester too.

“What I expect, which generally happens, is that someone will make an offer and then you will get five or six Premier League clubs making bids. Hopefully they won’t leave it too late if they want to do that."

Got this from a VERY RELIABLE SOURCE: Ashley will make SIX NEW signings before the transfer window;
1. A reference for Denis Wise
2. An autographed Sunderland shirt
3. Joey Barton's P45
4. A sale contract for NUFC
5. A deal to rename SJP "Mikes Gaff"
6. A super-injection gagging fans speculating on his signings (or lack thereof).

Believable7 Unbelievable3

Not funny at all mate :/

Agree5 Disagree2

6) A super injection?? Think its YOU who has been injecting
Could understand if you wrote super injunction or even something mildly humourous, but suppose when your lying completely out-of-it, you do the best you can. Good effort.

Would that be a super injunction? moron

back with me kebab...about obertan hope we get him watched him play for the young french side before he went to man u ...was the stand out player in the tournament... but he's not had much of a look in since then... any news on a striker ED or is obertan the striker ... geordie tom

{Ed042's Note - Obertan looks extremely likely at this stage tom mate, wont be a striker no, but versatile player that can play right wing if Joey goes, or behind striker until HBA is back}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hope we don't sign him struggles to control the ball, bottles everything and isn't much if any better than Routledge.

{Ed042's Note - Cant say Im sold on him yet myself, but one thing is for sure, he is in a different class to Routledge mate ha gave him a bit of stick last year by how much he was built up by Utd fans but was actually impressed by him in pre-season}

Agree0 Disagree0

Will vuckic not play behind the striker when HBA is not fit. I'm actually fine with that. He's been scoring for fun in pre-season, and might be able to take advantage of Arsenals s**te defence (bar sagna).
