There were plenty other candidates that I would have preferred over Schteve McClaren, such as Vieira, who would bring hope and excitement, and I do feel like this appointment is just another Pardew esc one, Graham Carr is obviously mates with him, that's why he's being appointed, because they can trust that he is a "yes" man. I think McClaren is an upgrade on Pardew, more experience, better style of football (at derby anyway), has actually won trophies. But We shouldn't be settling for people who's only attributes are "better than Pardew/carver" West Ham are in the same position as us, managerless, but we are the bigger club than them, but what happens? They are showing more ambition than us. Even though he rejected them, they approached de boer TWICE, at least they are trying, and are also due to have talks with Europa league winner Unai Emery, whereas US, NEWCASTLE UNITED, are settling for the Schteve McClaren, that is what p****s me off the most.

But, I will back McClaren, hopefully we will significantly strengthen the squad, at the very least the club NEED to let him bring his own coaches with him, Simpson, Round and Steele, who are all massive upgrades on carver, stone and woodman.

So looking at our squad this is who I think we should keep and who should leave (obviously jonas, taylor, alnwick have all left and we have darlow and lascelles coming in)
Krul - keep
Elliot - leave
Woodman - keep
Janmaat - keep
S Taylor - keep (I think he will be good as long as he stays injury free)
Coloccini - leave
Williamson - leave
Dummett - keep (still young so will only improve)
Haidara - keep
Tiote - possibly keep as mcclaren played him at fc twenty
Anita - possibly keep (played very well against west ham, was determined however SC may decide otherwise)
Colback - keep
Sissoko - keep
De Jong - keep
Cabella - keep
Marveaux - leave
Obertan - leave
Gouffran - leave
Perez - keep
Aarons - keep
Ameobi - will have to keep him with his new contract
Ferguson - leave
Vuckic - leave
Cisse - leave
Perez - keep
Riviere - leave
Armstrong - keep

Types of players we need:
A commanding presence in the back line
A backup right back
A first team consistent left back
A midfield general to pull the strings
A set piece specialist
A big target man who can win headers and hold the ball up

Players I think we should buy (realistically)
Carl Jenkinson (£4-8m)/Keiron Trippier (£4-8m)
Ron Vlaar (free)/Curtis Davies (£3-7m)
Andrew Robertson (£5-10m)/Luke Garbutt (Free)
Alex Song (£4-10m)/Will Hughes (£6-12m)
Matty Phillips (£3-8m)/Andre Ayew (free)
Charlie Austin (£7-12m)/Andy Carroll (Would pay MAX £8m)
So we need to spend around £35-50million on players in order to compete. I know I put carroll on my list and will probably get shot down but he's alternative to Austin who should be top priority, we need a target man who can cause defenders havoc and score goals, we've been lacking that ever since he left.

Hope McClaren brings his attacking 4-3-3 with the pass and move brand of football that derby played.

Maybe our starting XI next season will look something like this:
Krul
Janmaat, Taylor, Vlaar, Robertson
Sissoko, Colback, Song/De Jong
Phillips, Austin, Perez

Thank goodness Carver was involved in the pre-season schedule I think playing against a conference team, a Mexican side, two teams from the USA 2nd division, one team in the English 2nd division, one from the English first division will prove great competition for us in preparation for our final game against a German CL qualifying team and then the season starts.
Obviously Carver is the best pre-season organiser in the PL too.

Cabaye to Palace, surely not. I would be gutted if he went there. SURELY if there is a chance of him leaving PSG we should be trying everything we can to get him back into the heart of our midfield. He is only 29 so has at least 3 good years left in him and he is just what we need to replace the hole left when we sold. Cabaye to PSG!!

I am no fan of McLaren either, and I was excited about the idea of Viera but in hindsight he was too big a gamble when you look at the money we generated finishing 15th this season that will be £20-30m more when the new deal kicks in so relegation is not an option and McLaren has never been relegated form the EPL. Hopefully he has learnt from his experiences under Sir Alex, and learnt from his errors elsewhere putting them altogether to be a positive for us. I know a lot of Derby fans and they have mixed feelings on him being sacked but they all generally agree that he played a really good brand of passing football so fingers crossed.
In terms of coaching set up I expect Steve Round to return from the club to help the best coach in the PL become even better and McLaren is a good coach so I expect him to be more hands on on the training field and Carver/Stone to become the best cone engineers in the premier league.
Anyway lads and lasses it's not Carver in charge so that is a big positive.

i agree with your post spire, I hope pardew takes woodman from us and we can replace him with a TOP GK coach in Eric Steele, who worked at man united and is a geordie :)

At least if we bring in mcclaren, give him his own assistant coaches, Paul Simpson and Steve Round both leaving derby apparently.
