After being linked to Gervinho, Gameiro and Erding, I will be disgusted if we end up plucking players from the Championship. I'm sure Shane Long is a good player for a struggling Premier League team but, with £35mil+ to spend and real aims to get into the top half and beyond next season, it will be a joke that will result in the departure of Enrique and possibly Nolan.

Maybe I'm being pessimistic- let's hope we get some good names in.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

To be fair though, look at Andy Carroll. He shone in the Championship and turned out good up here too. Long looks like the type of player who could make it up here too. Not so sure about Graham though, I hope we don't buy him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Keep in mind 1. he was newcastle thru n thru 2. built like a brick s**thouse 3. knew what was expected when wearing the #9

Would love to see barnetta sign, he's taring England apart single handed as we speak. Have we made any enquiries ed? {Ed001's Note - not that I know of, but it is hardly a match to judge any player on. I think my 9 year old girl could tear England apart today.}

Believable3 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't say he was tearing England apart his on the ball play seems average but his set peices are good.

Agree1 Disagree0

Just because he scored 2 flukey freekicks he is great is he?

Anyone think we should sign Ruud Boymans of VVV he scored 9 goals in a team that got relegated he is out of contract next summer so would be available on the cheap and at only 21 he seems a good prospect anyone agree?

ED are there any rumours linking NUFC to Kyle Lafferty from Rangers I think he would be an execelent signing and also what about Daniel Sturridge aswell

{Ed010's Note -There are a few rumours kicking about with regards to Newcastle being interested in Daniel Sturridge but I would imagine, if the rumours are true, nothing will move on that one until the new Chelsea manager is in place.

I have not heard anything about Newcastle being linked with Kyle Lafferty and as the Rangers Ed, I hope it stays that way. Since being signed from Burnley, Lafferty has never been given the opportunity to play in his preferred position of centre forward. He has always been played out on the left wing and because of that, became an object of ridicule from the Rangers "boo boys", other fans and the Scottish Media.
Towards the end of the season, Walter Smith moved him into the centre and he began scoring for fun.

In my opinion, clubs really need to spend money in obtaining the services of the best possible scouts, instead of spending obscene amounts on some of these prima donnas. There are bargains out there, if only the scouting infrastructure, was in place to get them. Lafferty could be one of those players. It pains me to say but Celtic's scouting system is first class. In recent years they have signed Henrik Larrson for £650,000 and just this season past, signed Emilio Izaguirre for £580,000.
I have just used these two examples but there are loads more.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Agree about scouts, its seems like an old boys network for pros past their sell by date and toon scouts seem to be only capable of doing the bleeding obvious in our worldwide search for strikers

A lot of news on potential strikers (Gemeiro, Gervinho, Long, Graham. .) and also midfielders (Cabaye, N'Zogbia, Emana) but I was wondering, Ed or anyone else, are Newcastle looking at buying any defenders and if so, who? I think we need a RB and also either a starting LB (If Enrique leaves) or LB cover. I also don't think 3 good Centre-backs are enough. Any names people?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bassong, wendt, m'bengue, douglas

now then all this rubbish about buying top class players? we all know fat ashley won't spend money. so watch now the players coming in will be fro reading, watford, cardiff etc. untill he sells we are going no where pardew the puppet is just a yes man i work there and have been told we are not getting any top class players in (trust me) just to round of this is true i was talking to andy carroll (remember when his care got burned out) he told me ben arfa don't like it here but got 5year contract just to have a better sell on value this is all the truth

Believable3 Unbelievable7

Jealous mackem! If Ben arfa didn't like it here why would we sign him for 5m

Agree7 Disagree2

Ben Arfa has openly said he loves it here. He's been meeting the fans loads and going to local teams games. Stop talking s**te.

We should just bid for Sturridge and Long! Forget Gameiro, he can jog on if he's going to snub us for european football and Ba might get one bad tackle and end his career cos his dodgey knee. Other teams have proved you don't need big tall players up front to score goals like Man U, Barca and Madrid (i'm not comparing us to them, but they must be getting something right and i think we should do the same surely)

Would rather sign Dutch player than English much more professional, better attitude, technique, languages, ambitious

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Not at all. All dutch players (with the exception of Kuyt and van der Sar) cause problems in the dressing room. Look at Stam, Van Nistlerooy, Davids etc.

Agree1 Disagree1

VDV has caused no problems at all at Spurs and it also very professional. His problems at Real weren't his fault either.

Agree0 Disagree2

Granted, but that is really because he has no ground to stand on seeing as he is constantly injured

Well then ed001 maybe ur better placed to make a judgement on him than myself, just to clarify tho i havent twisted the stats etc, iv simply took them from good old wiki (sigh) and put them on here, although i have to admit i left out AC's superiority overall including cup and internationals :-0 suppose only time will tell with RvW maybe we will see him in the PL at some point in the future :) pd. {Ed001's Note - I was accusing you of twisting them, just saying I don't use them because they can be twisted. I think you will find you dodged a bullet not buying him, he reminds me of Ryan Babel, just not quite as good.}

Gervinho and Germio WONT BE JOINING NEWCASTLE UNITED GAMERIO GOING TO PSG AND GERVINHO GOING TO VILLAREAL. we are now looking at danny graham and shane long. this is not a good move. id take one of them. BUT WE NEED TO GET A MAIN STRIKER, LETS FACE IT ARE STRIKERS ARE NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER AT THE CLUB. we would maybe need an attacking midfielder. I sure hope we can get a striker in. Its still early days and the transfer window is not open until july 1st

why do we employ scouts all over the world when we end up signing players like Long, Graham so blindingly obvious even to fans like me yet Wigan and Celtic pick up fantastic players from obscure places like the Honduran League and Israel. Graham Carr get a grip your halo is slipping

Believable3 Unbelievable0

We got scouts all over the world and put big names about to get idiots like me to but my season ticket, under this ownership, loop closer to home ie Championship and league 1 for our next signings.

It's very early days but already starting to get the feeling that maybe our supposed striking targets are a smoke screen to what we will end up buying. Not sure if AP and MA have the sufficient passion and enthusiasm to sell the club to players and in MA's case the will to spend the money for us to have a team challenging for europe next season. I hope i'm wrong but can see us ending up panick buying championship players just before transfer window shuts and probably losing Enrique, Barton and Nolan because of no quality players signing.

Ah well thanks for clearing that one up ed001 i didn't realise he was just erm "crap" ;) i have to disagree tho, statistically hes actually better than a recently departed £35 million striker which we might well of heard of (AC just incase anyone really didn't get that) based on his league outings van wolfswinkel has a very very marginally better strike rate and is it not true that strikers are judged primarily on goals? You might say RvW plays in a lesser league to AC but bare in mind most of AC's league goals came from 2 spells in the second tier of english football not the PL. Both are a similar age, both hav played just about the same senior international games (AC-2 RvW-1) please correct me if im wrong but the only significant difference i can spot is about £30million quid in transfer fee and maybe 40grand a week in wages. I should say iv only watched RvW play once and that was as a sub so if he really is horrific and i am missing something then i apologise. For the record im pleased he didn't come to us, can you imagine how much his name on your shirt would cost! :) pd. {Ed001's Note - I understand what you are saying but I am not basing my judgement on stats, they can be twisted to prove anything. I am basing my judgement on watching the lad play a number of times, and every time he was either awful or extremely average. He is young, so it is possible he could improve a lot but currently he is not good enough from what I have seen.}

Rangers centre forward Jelavic on his way to toon after international duty with Crotia to be given number 9 next year, also Newcastle will try bring in west hams Upson, Green, Cole, and a return to St James for Parker 50,000 a week, Pardrew mind signed these players for West Ham.
==============================

wy would pardrew go for jelavic, when he just slated the whole spl so he must be crap according to pardrew. . and jelavic also stated that he would only go to a big team in england, that he is happy at ibrox! . why would scott parker go to newcastle when tottenham got rejected to why would newcastle get him! the rest are posible!
