Lee Ryder must be a bit embarrassed. Writes an article that Stuart Pearce is to thank for Forest duo joining. Stuart Pearce comes out saying he didn't sanction the deal. Oh Dear.

I think he must be immune to embarrassment by now. You do more research on your posts geordietoon!

This guy is not a journalist better off being a Ball boy he would here more and truth

I was a ball boy in 1988. I had to wear an awful lare trousered coop tracksuit. Kenny wharton blasted the ball out of touch and it smacked me in the head and knocked me over. The whole ground laughed. At half time we sat in a portacabin and had stale sandwiches, the milburn stand was being built. Sometimes we foget how far the club has come from the dark depressing 80's

Connery wickham would be a solid striker for the toon and would fit in well with rivière, but do you think cashly would pay that much for him or has pards blown his budget already?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think it is obvious we have spent on Pardews words what has come in aporox 30/32m Cabaye Debuchy
No mention of 60m TV money has been spent.
I think it is over & we will run with what
we have got which is sad
When a quality CB And Striker could have made the diffence between 10th and 6th
Might wrong so let's see

OK lads steady on, with the exception of Southampton, every team above us has reinforced in close season. So even with a proven centreback our chances of finishing top 8 are slim. The business Liverpool, Man city, man utd, chelsea, spurs, everton and arsenal is very impressive and each has a manager far more tactically astute than Pardew. Putting our emotions and aspirations to one side, do we really think a solid CB and a striker will see us above any of those teams?

Agree0 Disagree0

Possibly not disarre however it would give this a realistic chance.

Ok so watched some pre season, some good some very bad and the obvious thing as pointed out by most is that we are struggling at the back. 4 at the back just doesn't seem to work for us. or atleast not the current 4. so looking at what we have I thought i'd start playing with a few ideas and best I could come up with at the minute is:

,,,,,,,,,,,, Krul
,,, williamson, MYM, Collo
janmaat,,,,,,,,,,,, Colback
,,,,,,,,,,, tiote
,,,,, sisso,,,,,,, cabella
,,,,,,,,,, de jong
,,,,,,,,,, riviere

enough at the back to hopefully defend when defending. plenty going forward when attacking and pretty well balanced. seems balanced if janmaat goes forward for colback to drop back in. to make it 4 at back and vice versa. plus tiote helping cover. the 4 lads in front of them should be able to add some flair and power too. what do you guys think?

Welcome back niktoon

I think the system we play will be a 4-4-1-1

Just need a prolific striker, along with Lascelles and Darlow then we will be complete. I think Grenier will leave Lyon as they have already got a replacement however I don't think we will spend another £10mil

Never

Thanks JToon, agree that CB is needed but you would have to be stupid (Pardew) not to think that. and 4411 could work but not sure we can supply from the wings. I suppose time will tell. think both riviere and ferreyra look good in the air. as for grenier. I would love this to happen but not sure who you would drop or where he would fit in. but if we are really interested and HBA looks like going (and would like lyon) surely this is a pretty straight forward thing to sort.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we should be playing 4231

Good post Niktoon, The only time I felt the toon had a good defence was when woodgate would play. It appears we will have to coach what is at the club in terms of defence. I have often wondered if football teams would benefit from utilising rugby coaches when it comes to defensive coaching. The movement off the ball in rugby is far greater, the team has to defend as a whole unit and it is often backs to the wall stuff. I know Southampton tried the clive woodward experiment and it didn't work. We look so lost at times, we tend to hold footballers on a pedestal we forget that most of them are dunces including the coaches and managers.

Nick did you watch the matches at the latter part of last season because if you did you will of noticed like most of the people the defense was absolutely hopeless
Janmatt to me is a plus but we were the 2nd worst on the premiership for shopping in goals I can't believe this has been ignored

Vida, a watched every game last season and I havnt said I don't agree that we were shocking in defence (all over the park to be fair).
we need a CB for sure. and I do agre that janmaat is a plus think defensively more sound than debuchy and a better end product. I can't believe the CB position has been ignored so far. and I also can't believe we havnt recruited some coaching staff. I actually believe that was probably more important than any other signings that we could make. Collo needs to be coached on how to make the best of his positioning now the legs have gone. take mertasacker at arsenal (now i'm not saying he is a great defender but for a guy with no pace he still does a good job) Collo still positions himself as if he has the pace to catch players and he clearly doesn't. he is also far to eager to go to ground think I saw him literally slide past players on his arse without the ball or making a block 3 times in one of the games towards the end of the season. just aimlessly throwing himself in front of people (he wasn't the only one mind)
