I would say Im concerned that Im not hearing us linked with may defenders as I think they should be our first signings as they will need longer to bed into the team - but I have faith that Pardew and carr will bring in someone under the radar that none of us would have ever guessed!

Believable1 Unbelievable5

Debuchy, M'biwa, Rosales, Clyne, Vertonghen, Pieters, Tomkins.... just to name a few.

Agree7 Disagree0

Debuchy, rumoured to be flying out this weekend to sort his deal with Newcastle out. {Ed008's Note - Highly unlikely he'd fly out over the weekend as he's training with the France squad...

Agree3 Disagree0

Would be gutted if we got Rosales, Pieters or Tomkins as anything other than squad players. They are all exceedingly average, not Top 6 starting XI quality. However M'Biwa, Douglas and Debuchy are great players, if we signed those 3 and Clynn and sold Simpson I'd give Ashley my kidneys.

Agree1 Disagree1

Not Douglas for me ,to much temper there.

If Demba Ba leaves, Pardew and Carr looking at a loan deal for Nilmar of Villareal as they have been relegated. Also Luke James from Hartleepool and Gael Bigirmana from Coventry to sign as soon as window repoens.

Following players to leave:

Simpson (4mil)
Gosling (2mil)
Ba (7mil)
Lovenkrands (free)
Smith (free) or stay as coach
Xisco (nominal)
Ranger (nominal)
Forster (?)
Obertan (loan)
Amilifatano (loan to championship for 6 month to get first team games)

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Why do people keep pricing Simpson at 4 million when he has one year left on his contract and is average at best?

Agree5 Disagree2

I doubt we'll loan out anyone as they'll be needed for europa games.

Agree4 Disagree0

We wont loan any players. that is part of ashleys transfer policy

Agree3 Disagree2

Amalfitano to the championship? Give your head a wobble.

Agree3 Disagree1

He did just come from Ligue 2 which is pretty shocking. Don't get me wrong, he could be another great find, but it's not an idea worth of head wobbling.

Agree2 Disagree0

Smith as a coach, I'm looking forward to that!

Agree2 Disagree0

Not a striking coach I hope? Or a fitness coach. Or a midfield coach.

Why did we sign him again?

Agree5 Disagree0

For £20 million as well... Let's not go there shall we?

Agree1 Disagree0

I thought they just got relagated, he must be a talent if Carr has given him the nod, we knew nothing about Cabaye or Marveux before they signed so lets give the guy a chance.

Agree1 Disagree1

Smithy is off to the MK Dons again...

I read on hear of who we should sell and who we should keep which team people would love to see playing next season, various options and back ups ......but....no one has mentioned Obertan has he been spirited away by aliens or what

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He is just useless.... speed is the only thing he has! man utd dont sell unless either a massive offer comes in, or he is not rated by sir alex.

Agree2 Disagree0

He looks like an alien, so yeah, maybe.

Agree1 Disagree0

He's a decent back up player to have, he's also home grown isnt he I think? which is important in terms of uefa rulings and stuff

Agree1 Disagree0

I think we should give him another season before judging him.

Agree2 Disagree0

I actually think he may comedies yet, he'll be no world beater ofcourse but he just needs to work on his decision making! At the very least he's good to bring on last 25 mins to open the defence..... It wasn't all the long ago Lennon was a very similar player and hIs game changed a lot!

It'd be nice to know how all the players who left us over the last 3 years, due to lack of ambition and dreams of better things, think about us now.
Carroll, Barton, Jose, Duff and Martins are a few I'd like to know from. Loads of others too Beye, Bassong etc...

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ironically, martins, beye and bassong have all been relegated from an english league within the last year.

How about this for an ideal 11 next season lads and lasses:

Krul

Debuchy - Taylor - Coloccini - Santon

Tiote - Jonas

Ben Arfa ----- Cabaye ------- Barnetta

Cisse

Would do me like ...

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Krul

Debuchy - Douglas - Coloccini - Pieters

Tiote - Matuidi

Ben Arfa ----- Cabaye ------- Afellay

Cisse

Agree2 Disagree3

Santon is going to be class

Agree3 Disagree0

Agree that Santon is going to be class but I also think his best position will be further forward (where Afellay is).

Agree0 Disagree1

I much prefer the 2nd 11 although i cant see us getting affelay. he'll probably be on 70k a week. plus i wouldnt be suprised if teams like juventus, milan, spurs, ath madrid, bayern were in for him

Agree1 Disagree1

I'd prefer the second team if you swap Douglas for Taylor. Taylor/Coloccini is a partnership made in heaven.

I think Jonas will be part of the team next year, but if we could get Matuidi it would be one hell of a step up!

Same with Afellay, although Barnetta is no mug

Agree0 Disagree0

Pieters over Santon?! Don't drink and post.

My (realistic dream) starting XI:
Krul

Debuchy-M'Biwa-Colo-Santon

Tiote
Martin-Cabaye

Ben Arfa-Johnson
Cisse

Agree0 Disagree0

Possibly Xavi Marquez instead of Martin if you want a more defensive team, Marquez's passing range and tackling is outstanding. He's certainly on my wishlist.

My team I'd like to see next year:

Krul

Debuchy M'Biwa Coloccini Santon

Martin Tiote Cabaye

Ben Arfa Marveaux
Cisse

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I'd give that a 60% chance of happening. top 4 team.

Agree0 Disagree1

Looks good, but Steven Taylor should be partnering Coloccini when fit and I think we need a more defensive minded midfielder to play alongside Tiote so Cabaye can be the main attacking midfielder, it's his best position

Agree0 Disagree0

Marveaux too injury prone

Agree0 Disagree1

I think if we can keep him fit he will turn out to be quality

Agree0 Disagree0

M'Biwa is in a different league to Steven Taylor, I love him and he had us in 2nd when he was fit 11 games into the season. But M'Biwa is absolutely fantastic, his omission from the France squad is an absolute joke.
Why do people say Cabaye is that attacking? He had the most tackles of any midfielder this season, Martin is more attacking than him.
Judging by his short involvement in the Everton game Marveux works well in the 3 in the middle, passing and touch is top notch. Difficult to tell what he'll be like with his injuries.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ligue 1?

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't agree Marveaux is injury prone, he's had some tough luck to this past season. he will be a good player next year for a few league and cup games, i won't use him in europa apart from a sub.

We need to sign: a fullback if not two, a couple of cm, a decent young striker

Fullback: mathieu debuchy looks the most likely but peiters keeps getting mentioned. Also skysports and the northern echo report we have looked at clyne from palace. Another target is Rosales from fc twente

Cm: we need a couple in this positionto cover for tiote and cabaye. Okay we have got perchinio and new boy amalfitano but with Guthrie leaving. Mark Davies and Jamie Ohara have been mentioned but they have no European experience.

Forward: if ba goes which could happen, we would have only a couple of strikers: cisse, sammy and shola ameobi, vuckic and Leon best as lovenkrands and ranger are to be released. I think someone like Kevin Doyle would be good if ba stays but if he goes then bas dost and luuk de Jong seem the best targets.

I also think a new cb is needed and I think alderweireld from Ajax is a good player but also Scott dann from Blackburn may work with them being relegated

However it's pointless us guessing who is going in and out at the toon as last season proved we sign players on the quiet. Players like marveux and cabaye were kept quiet

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I agree, speculation is pointless! Lets not forget how quiet the Cisse signing was kept! Although I think if we dont put a bid in for Debuchy we would be crazy

Agree2 Disagree0

I'd disagree on Scott Dann, after he was relegated with Brum I'd have said snap him up, but after being relegated twice.. Not so keen now (no pun intended).

Agree2 Disagree0

Just reading this stuff about teams activating the 7m release clause for ba. got me thinking what would happen if newcastle paid ba 7m would we keep him and remove the release clause. sign him on a long deal and current wages then it can be seen as a bonus/investment.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

How could paying someone 7mil be a good investment. instaed of gaining 7mil we would spend 7mil so its a 14mil turnaround. in a business sense it makes no sense

Agree1 Disagree0

Paying a player 7 million to stay at a club are you insane?

Agree2 Disagree0

Wish people would stop bangin on about Ba and his clause. if he stays great but if he goes, he goes... we wont have made a profit on him as he gets half the money and the rest would have covered to cost of agent fees when we signed. if he is to go its not gunna cost 7 mill, that is just his clause, there are agent fees on top of this and also insurance fees so it could be as high as 14 mill. Bit too much for a player with a degenerative knee condition.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think opinion on Ba has shifted since Cisse came in and I think he knows it, not too many people would of said in December "I wouldnt be bothered if Ba left" but now its all changed, Cisse is the one we need to keep hold of, if Ba goes its for one reason (£££££££££££) and if thats all he's after then he can get himself away for me like, only want players here who want to succeed here, interesting quote from Mark Douglas today, in his first interview with Ba; MD "why did you choose to sign with NUFC" DB "I asked my agent which was the best offer" says it all really, no football reasons in that answer, just money

Agree1 Disagree0

Agree with you mate but what we did gain was a place in Europe because of his goals (gains are not always finacial)

Agree1 Disagree0

Ba's clause is made so that he and his agentS receive a hideous amount of money. It is also not as simple as 'if you pay 7m then that's that', Pardew said that there was "Some truth to it, but some exaggeration". People think he's a lovely chap but he's more of a merc than he appears.

Agree0 Disagree0

N'castle should try for Boyota he's an unreal CB . We were gonna snap him up 2 year ago don't see whats stopping us now we need someone accompanying collocini ! Perch and Williamson are terrible :/

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Perch, Williamson and Boyata are all of the same calibre IMO, need to be pushing for genuine quality if we want to stay where we are and push on.

Agree0 Disagree1

Perchinho for England/Brazil

Agree1 Disagree1

Nufcblog has an interesting story about the top23 english players in the league this season, and Perch was in there as the only mag representative. Crazy.

Agree2 Disagree1

Perch did all he was asked within his limitations but if we want to challenge top 6 every year we need more than that (which top 6 team would he get in)

Agree0 Disagree0

He loves a tackle

Anyone else think that Hodgson missed a trick not taking Simpson to the Euros? He's nowhere near world class, but when you have Johnson (terrible), Kelly (not first choice at Liverpool, odd starts, mostly subs), Jones (not naturally a right back) and Richards (out of favour apparantly), surely Simpson, over the course of the season (~34 league games played this season) has done more than anyone to get at least a squad place.

Ah well, good to see Hodgson hasn't learnt from mclaren, capello et al and has picked almost exactly the same squad.
Could name at least ten players who deserve a spot who are going over the rubbish that's on the plane. The fact that Henderson is looking like he might sneak in the expense of Lampard shows how bad the squad is.

This was Hodgson's free pass, a chance to pick whatever team he liked and take no blame whatsoever. IMO picking the same squad has actually increased the pressure on him, as he will have seen the previous failures, yet still believes himself capable of winning with those same players

This was originally just a few lines about Simmo, but grew into a slightly longer vent, just wish players were picked on their performance over the year regardless of club. Most of those Liverpool players need to take a good hard look at themselves before pulling on the England shirt as only one of them deserves it. Same goes for a few others.

GeordieChris

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Kind of disagree with this, Downing is the prime example tbh 18million transfer and didn't score or assist a goal all season. yet a player like Adam Johnson who has scored and assisted at will gets the back up?

Agree1 Disagree0

Always the same with England. If squad selection was on nothing but performances this season, Guthrie should have been selected for the friendlies in the winter AT LEAST. Cant understand how the like of downing and henderson get picked.

Agree1 Disagree1

So you agree with me?

I'm saying that a lot of the squad don't deserve to be going. Downing is the BEST example in that squad. Pure dirge all season yet he gets to go. Johnson, Brittain, Simmo, Jagielka (although he's going now), Holt, Pilkington, Rose etc. Hell, I'd even take Cattermole over Henderson.

Agree1 Disagree0

IMO Hodgson signed his own death warrant when he signed up to be England Manager. Firstly because he ins't the media darling that is 'arry corrupt candleface Redknapp and secondly the quality of the players we have. Feel sorry for the bloke as if we dont get out of the group stages the media will tear him to shreds. Saying they shud of chose 'arry. But agree about simpson, obviously richard is better but there something going on behind the scenes that resulted in him not being selected, and danny should deffo of been mentioned at least. Same with Fraser Foster, brilliant season with Celtic, fair enuf its scottish league but and it celtic but not the point should of easily been considered ahead of Jack Butland {Ed001's Note - I think, more to the point, anyone but Robert Green should have been selected! He is a dreadful keeper, to put it nicely.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Downing an attacking midfield player has 34 caps and no goals (No big fat zero goals) same old rubbish being picked same old rubbish will be played

Agree1 Disagree0

Johnson is probably the only English player with any technical ability that can beat a player and we leave him at home and take Downing and Henderson, JOKE

Agree0 Disagree0

Henderson is abolutely god awful. Perch and Guthrie both far better, but Henderson could improve. In any case I don't know how players like him and Downing can make a supposedly great squad when the names mentioned before (eg, Holt) are left at home. Madness.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree about the england squad being picked on who you play for, not how good your season has being; and is shown in downings selection, but simpson is nothing better than average. i do feel Johnson didn't deserve a call up though, i am more for Walker / Richards.
