5 years ago today, Sir Bobby Robson lost his fight with cancer.
RIP one of our greatest ever managers. He was a true gent.

A Lovely post JToon. What a gent, they broke the mould. its been downhill for the last 10 years since Sir Bobby was sacked.
I can't help but think that everything that has happened since then has been karma for the club. It was an awful way to end it for Sir Bobby, especially after everything he had achieved for the club.
I wonder what sir Bobby would make of the clubs current situation?

It is ironic that Sir Bobby only made 3 big signings in robert, bellamy and woodgate and yet we finished 3rd, 4th and 5th. I'll never forget the night we beat Arsenal to go top. Imagine what he could do with our crop of players, even Shola played well under sir Bobby.

dier going to spurs, looks like mym will be kept?
Whats the best we can come up with as a defence this season lads? I haven't got a clue who should start as a first choice defensive line.

I think we could very much see a back 3, willo/saylor, m'biwa, colo
with wing backs janmaatt and haidara (santon when fit)
Janmaatt very capable of getting forward. saw this in the world cup. a fit raylor will be able to cover Janmaatt in that position. and colback can cover haidara. just what I would like to see.

Im sure the question was what's the best we can come up with? Not how bad is our defence? let's have another moan about it. If we buy we Buy if we don't we don't. But let's not write us of before a ball is even kicked. maybe something will just click. its been known. let's hold off with all the doom and gloom a bit. at least until we have seen how we start.

3 years back we had one of the best defences in the league. remember Simpson saylor collo and raylor playing as a very tight unit and collo organising the defence well. we had tiote protecting the back 4 very well.
I think it is more a case of attitude and application with this team. Collo and Pardew are captain and coach and yet neither have led by example. I don't think signing another cb would make a any difference unless we signed john terry or a similarly experienced CB to lead and marshall the defence.

I seem to recall in coincided with Saylors injury Art? I don't disagree with you mate but it appears Ashley does. I have a gut feel that MBiwa will be given this season to prove himself as collos replacement. We should also give young lads a chance to break through. Just a thought, but Ashley must be looking at Southamptons summer and seeing the dollar signs. I expect he'll be putting pressure on pardew to give the kids a chance in order to unearth some homegrown talent as it is worth more ie carroll. It is just an inkling I have, what is your take Art
