newcastle waiting to sell ben arfa & sissoko first before buying again that's why there just putting in enquiries about possible replacements. ashley looks like keeping tv money again. look at what we've spent up to now it doesn't come to 32 million more like 27.5 million. when were getting (no offence to everton fans but there skint but will still bankroll huge transfer 24 million for lakuku we pay 6 million for unproven striker were going to be miles behind the top 7 now new cb new top striker needed at least spend 15 mill on forward please

Think we all agree but our problem is an owner who only wants to make more and more money and an owner elsewhere with a passion and trust in his manager
The Lukaku transfer has not done us any favours only cemented Ashley's fear if spending money & now he has the excuse not to buy stating we tried but clubs would not deal W. ER

Agree0 Disagree0

$24m for lukaku is crazy money. I can understand Ashleys philosophy around transfers. But unless we have an academy that is producing players like Southamptons, we give the kids a chance and we take a gamble on players in the lower leagues then we are stuffed. I don't see a long term plan to build a club and team that can compete in the top 8.

Desree states that " even before Mike Ashley we couldn't attract the right foreign players " Were Albert, Ginola, Asprilla, Robert, Hottiger, Solano, Viduka, Bassong, Acuna, Rozehnal, Srnicek, Bernard, Distin, Domi, Saha, Ketsbaia, Hamann, Dabizas, Martins, Beye, Enrique, Emre, and even Krul, in my opinion, all represented the club well on the field, I mean, has anybody seen a better player in black n white than Ginola? Football is all about opinions.

My comment was in context of newcastle competing against AC Milan for a players signature.

Half those names we signed 20 years ago.

Agree0 Disagree0

And of those names how many moved on to other clubs after a season or two? Other than Alan Shearer Newcastle have sold everyone of their star players when at their prime going way back to Malcolm McDonald.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just my own opinion on these players fair comment - quite a lot of them moved on after 1 or 2 seasons, also some of the players you mention I think were bought under Ashley's ownership of the club.

Albert - Perhaps one of the greatest signings we ever made period - if only we could sign another like him.

Ginola - Great for first 6-12 months but saved his best football for spurs,

Asprilla - Great player but a signing that cost us our best chance ever of winning the premier league

Robert - Ben Arfa's uncle, same attitude, same frustrations - but sensational when in the right mood.

Hottiger - scoring against Blackburn in the FA cup was his only contribution of note

Solano - the best value foreign signing for the club iMO, great attitude, great player and if only we could find more like him

Viduka - did he play anymore than 10 games for us? Did he sign just before Ashley bought the club?

Bassong - Here for one season and bailed when we got relegated. Bought under Ashley's regime.

Acuna - Did an ok job in a pretty poor side

Rozehnal - Is this an example of the right kind of foreign player we want to attract - he was junk. Also bought when ashley acquired the club

Srnicek - Great bloke, does he still buy his suits from slaters?

Bernard - first time round he played some good games - left us for Southampton after a couple of decent seasons

Distin - Was he on loan for a season and went to Man City?

Domi - Decent player

Saha - loan player who preferred Fulham?

Ketsbaia - not David Ginola

Hamann - Great for the season he was here.

Dabizas - I agree we need to find more players like Nicos.

Martins - Frustrating player

Beye - Shame he left us - Signed by Ashley

Enrique - Another good quality signing and the type of player we should be buying and bought under Ashleys regime I believe?

Emre - I hope we never stoop to employ such low life characters again.

Speaking of Viduka I bumped into him whilst in a coffee shop in Sydney. he looks fitter now than when he played for the toon. He's lost a few kilos!

I have to say, I really want nufc to go all out and sign Clement Grenier. He is a superb midfield player in similar mould to Cabaye's. , but if we sign him that would be the end of Anita in the first team. A 4-5-1 formation with Tiote and Grenier in the middle, gouff and cabella in the flanks, siem in the hole with reviere as the out and out striker. I also believe Mbiwa has to be given a fair chance as a CB alongside Collo. These are my thoughts, but we need another striker and CB.

The beauty of this recruitment drive is that we could play 3-5-1, 4-2-3-1, 4-5-1, 4-2-2 or a diamond or anything really as we have a decent squad and decent variation which will only improve if we can sign Grenier and Lcazette.

Agree0 Disagree0

They cost money m8 AND ALL the names we are linked with will move BUT no to us as Ashleys perception of how players have to accept a lower wage and clubs a lot less than they are asking just leaves the door open for the serious clubs that appreciate the players and that also want to win silverware
The next few weeks will see our targets disappear from the radar just like Bony did.

Agree0 Disagree0

I too think Grenier would be a great signing. It's not off the players this good become available, £15mil would still be a good buy.

Same for Aubameyang. Would rather have him over lacazette. Would be a bargin.

A comment made from NUFC camp
Fans should be happy with the players brought in
Newcastle will continue to get players over the line BUT at their price and seem like they are playing the game.
Names being bandied around will not be signed as they are over priced and wages ridiculous.

It seems that a player or 2 will be bought but these will be squad players which will mean another hard season of unpredictable results. Newcastle Fans do not deserve this but it will happen.

This club is designed to be and will continue to be at best a mid table club enjoying the massive support every week and no overspend and Ashley collecting his 20/25m a year there is no risk for him at all.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

On the bright side Art 12 months ago we had Joe Kinnear at the club. And it appears Southampton have set the bar as to how to define a selling club. Mid table mediocrity is about right for us over the last 10 years since Sir Bobby was sacked. Should I bother getting up at 2am to watch the toon this season?
