It's about time we all faced facts... We are NOT going to get anyone else in unless it's on a freebie... And for those of you that believe the £35 million has gone in contracts etc... Get real ..... Ashley doesn't care less about the club going forward and is only concerned with keeping them in the Premier league. It's clearly obvious that he is reducing the wage structure for one reason only and that is to increase the profit margin. He will sell once he has got not only his money back but have a tidy profit too. After all Ashley is a business man and has never been and never will be a fan of our beloved football club. I hope for his sake that his plans do not back fire next season and we end up back in the championship, but with the current squad, which by the way is smaller than ever despite talk that it needs to strengthening, I feel that is a likely possible outcome.

Get real
Agree3
Disagree1
How can our squad be smaller when we've got rid of 3 players and brought in 4?
{Ed042's Note - Add 2 signings from last year too in Gosling and HBA, plus about three to five youngsters making the step up this season}
Agree4
Disagree2
Carroll, Nolan, Campball, Ireland, Kuqui have all gone off the books from last January. Yes we have four in but unless my maths is up the swanny that means the squad is no bigger..................
Agree2
Disagree0
Ireland never played so he shouldn't be included.
Agree2
Disagree2
Carroll and Nolan didn't want to be here, Ireland was injured all the time he was here and are you saying Cambell and Kuqi were premier league class last season.....I think we're in a better position now and hoping for a couple of extra players to come in
Agree3
Disagree1
Kuqi was a number filler, carroll went in january and ireland never featured so with the new lads brought in and the 2 lads who were out all season and what with the youngster that have come thru and looking good we stronger than last term and there is still 2 weeks for start of season

as a football fan like most on here both newcastle and sunderland fans who are up there with the best in the country how do you feel with your current squad sb and ap both seem happy with what they got but what about us the fans who have to pay to watch the games how do you feel. lack of ambition or in the process of building. both with billionaire chairmen who in my eyes dont seem to have the confidence in there managers to back them in the transfer market big signings promised but none come to either club and not as if pulling out of there own pocket lads money from bent carrol and henderson plus sky and season tickets lot of money going into club very little going on a top player. i think both sets of fans deserve more than mid table negativity. what do you lads think i will be putting this on sunderland site and look forward to the replies some will agree and some wont. and before ye say anything i am one of the lucky ones to have seen both teams play in europe so this is not a bias post. a once famous punk rocker once made this statement. do ye feel like ye being cheated

Think both clubs need a striker i think safc squad stronger than nufc more experienced midfielders mad max
Agree1
Disagree2
Agree both need a striker, as far as midfield go its personal opinion, personally think Newcastles is stronger, and theres nothing between it squad wise... Understand the line of thinking on premier league experience, dont subscribe to it though... mackem example for mad max, sessegnon, not experienced, yet within ten games was considered by Sunderland fans their best midfielder, still is considered that... Experience does not necessarily equal or directly impact on Quality.. and historically no matter the club French players generally adapt to the English game very quickly in comparison to other nationalities, dont know why that is, just seems to be the case... as for my feelings on the current squad as it stands, much improved with signings and youth coming through, do need a goalscorer though to back up Ba or give us the option of playing 2 up front, also could do with a talented young winger to back up Barton... as for the mackems, its much the same to be honest, should also be happy with their business to date, still need a winger of real quality and a striker to start feeling in any way confident though.. next couple of weeks should impact the opinions of both fans a lot, at the moment though both should be happy enough

Nice banter with you krtoon but i think if you compare both midfields ours has to be stronger. larsson arsenal player from 16yrs old malbranque seems like forever in prem cattermole red cerd magnet but experienced gardner 10 goals in a very poor team vaughan voted better than adams by blackpool fans richardson i agree hitty miss elmo starting to come good as long as he not giving away pens sess i think will be used further up field as a deep forward colback only young but looked very composed on the ball. should be interesting second game and season mate. mad max
Agree0
Disagree0
Just wondering why do you post decent comments like that and then post pathetic and pointles posts like the one above mad max?
Agree1
Disagree1
Have to disagree mate.. will try and compare them as directly as I can, show you what I mean..
Larsson or Barton.. Seb isnt bad but Joey is a better all round player with a better end product and more versatile..
Cattermole or Tiote.. both need to relax a bit on the cards but as players, no question imo, Tiote is better..
Gardner or Cabaye.. Gardner is good for goals, actually think hes one of your better signings, would still have Cabaye though, again better all round player, was the man the play went through for Lille the past two to three years, just won the French League, and again is more versatile, in terms of goals when he played more advanced he scored 15 goals, Gardners level of assists are pretty poor aswell, thought they would have been better than they are considering he seems a good player..
Vaughan or Gosling.. Tough one to call.. Vaughan had a good season, seems a handy enough player.. Gosling is highly rated youngster.. from what I have seen of him in pre season is a better player than I thought he was, some engine on the lad and a few nice touches to go with it.. but as I said its a hard one to call at the moment.. personally would take Gosling based on age, can play CM, RB and RW as well
Richardson or Jonas.. much of a muchness to be honest, dont particularly rate either.. both look better than they actually are.. as you said very hit and miss
Elmo or Marveaux.. Again jury is out on both.. really liked the look of Elmo when he first played, but more I seen of him less I rated him, end product isnt great, but has potential.. Marveaux is very pacey, very.. had a couple of good appearances in pre season and what I have seen of him before that he looks like he good be a really smart signing, robbed from under the pools noses as well which does two things.. proves he has potential if nothing else.. and two, makes me very happy to get one over on them ha
Sessegnon or Ben Arfa... know the mackems are excited about this lad, as are we about Hatem.. and before the "but hes injuy prone" misconception comes up.. again, he played 39, 31 and 49 games the three seasons before the leg break... and the most recent injury was caused by a tackle that would have injured any player, was really reckless... anyway, personally I think Sessegnon will be a very good player for Sunderland, but he is no Ben Arfa.. anyone that has watched enough of the two of them will tell you that.. very few players I would describe as frightening when running at defenders, he is one.. genuine Newcastle icon potential, and in the behind the striker role you get the best out of him in terms of counter attacks... could actually go on all day about the potential that lad has so ill stop myself now.. look in my opinion Sess will be very good no doubt, but HBa will be a class act and is considerably the better player..
Right going on a bit now, will finish up... only ones left are Malbranque and Colback vs Abeid and Vuckic.. this ones all about personal opinion.. personally I would take two exciting young talents about one and a good player whos lost a yard
Anyway as you said, should be an interesting 2nd game and season.. and next couple of weeks... think both clubs will surprise a few people, but wont set the world alight this year... mid table for both I think

Wtf tiotes the best cdm in the prem cabaye proven international class plays better easily than any of your mids joey was one of the best players in the prem last season and ben arfa has already shown his class theres no competition with ur championship buys.
Agree0

I could not be fricked read the essay but we desperately need a right back, even a makem seen our vulnerabilities from the right last season
Agree0
Disagree0
Some geordies rate their midfielders abit highly like the guy saying Cabaye is proven international class, he has played the odd game for the french but he has no premier league experience. want to come off the Broon Ale lad, you are one of the typical geordies who loathe sunderland, talk rubbish and can't even have a decent banter with your rivals
Agree0

Typical SAFc supporter saying NUFC over rate their players but probably rates SAFC players up there with the best Red and white glasses i think Make decisions with your head not your heart mate

And by the way my point was that ur new players ain't up to much proven today not who u had playing from last season so thanks for just suring that point up for me.

Does it not tell you something that we are the ONLY club looking at Erding? Plenty of teams need strikers so why no other interest? Lets get a decent striker in Puppet Pardew and not someone Fat Mike has told you to get cos he is cheap

Right lets have a bit of banter. Realistically which striker would we like to see here who would come to us?
Osvaldo-Espanyol- 23yo, 13gls in 24 games ?
Andre Schirrle- Mainz-20yo, 15gls in 26 games
El Arabi-Caen-24yo-17gls in 36games
Vleminckx-25yo-NEC Nijmegen- 23gls in 32 games
Sigthorsson-21yo-Az Alkmaar- 15gls in 19 games
Castaignos-18yo-Feyernoord- 15gls in 29 games
Wijnaldum-20yo Feyernoord- 14gls in 34 games
Obviously Teteh Bangura in Sweden, but I also like the look of Tim Matavz-22yo-FC Groningen- 21gls in 28 games-Slovenian Int'l.
There are plenty of decent goalscorers out there who are young and hungry, we need to take a chance with a couple of them. Transfer fee would not be too high for the above and the wages would not be a problem. Ed- any thoughts?

Take out Osvaldo and its a realistic list
Agree0
Disagree0
Thats why I put the question mark at the end as I wasnt sure if he was in our price range. Its the feeling of knowing something SHOULD happen in the transfer market soon but nothing seems to be that is doing my head in. Hoping a striker gets sorted ASAP. Im not too keen on Erding if Im honest. Think there is much betyter players for that money who would jump at coming to us. I think the reason he wants to stay at PSG is more to do with rich owners and better bonuses and wages depending on how long his contract is, but then what do I know. Anything said about McGeady? We were linked with him for some time in Jan and now nothing.

This post is quite gd and I think they r realistic targets. I also like the goals per game ratio, very informative.
Only error is Wijnaldum has signed for PSV (3m, a steal) and I think inter have got a deal in place to get Castaignos wen he turns 20.
Otherwise good post.

Hi guys, well it looks like Goodwillie is moving to Ewood park. £2m up front and an additional £800,000 after 10 goals. Also a percentage fee if he is sold on in a few seasons.
A lot of people might think that is a great deal for Dundee United but I think he will cut it in the prem. I think we should be going in with a similar deal.
Either way he is a mate of mine and I wish him all the best and hope he is a success in the Prem (albeit he doesnt score a hat trick against us or something lol)
All the best D and when you score your 1st prem league goal remember the Carse Thistledays

some of these rumours are getting beyond a joke i come on here everyday and its berbatov defoe crouch sturridge eduardo erding djallo remy mario gomez lol none of these want to or probably wont sign for us i personally think we are only after a left back wayne bridge is a horrible player id rather sign boumsong again and play him there m bengue and warnock would be my 1st choices i think pardew is happy with the squad we have now we have a lot of creativity in midfield and vuckic ferguson look like future hits we might sign 1 of the banguras if we hurry the deal but same old we tried will be said personally i think if ranger scores in the prem it might kickstart his future because he has all the traits of a great striker powerful pace good in the air hold up play pretty much everything except composure main strikers this season will be ameobi ba and best might sign someone in january when african nations starts but i can only see a panic last day move for carlton cole or jerome etc etc jus stop these crazy rumours lol
on the other hand just seen mike ashley shaking hands with eto, benzema and iniesta haha lol
