Sunderland fan in peace. Got 2 questions to ask. What is the deal with the green shirts tonight? And has tiote just been rested or is he on his way out? Ps nasty looking injury to taylor always nasty when a player is badly injured no matter what team he plays for. Safc93

Believable3 Unbelievable0

3rd kit tonight and yes looks a bad injury .thanks for the concern .

Agree1 Disagree0

Tiote has calf injury apparently and green strip looks pants lol....i would of liked carrol, debuchy and douglas and take a huge fee for tiote even though i rate tiote highly the 10 games plus every seson he,s injured or suspended would rather sell.....k

Agree0 Disagree2

The green shirt is our 3rd strip for europe, quite nice i think. Tiote is out cos hes injured no chance of him leaving this window. Already stated how happy he is. What u think of 12 mil for fletcher?

Agree1 Disagree1

Our European strip. obviously injured.

Agree1 Disagree1

Mackem here, yeah mate 12 for fletch is steep we are no going to deny it but if he gets us 15 plus league goals ill be happy.

It seems to be a sellers market and with O'Neill and his buying british policy and our desperation for a striker wolves dug their heels in.

I think he will bang the goals in,now I know it was only morcombe lol the other night but we looked awesome going forward.

Johnson mclean on the wings linking up with sessegnon in the hole was beautiful to watch johnson and mclean swap positions throughout the game too so hard to man mark.we create a lot of chances on the floor and crosses for fletch so he and we will not find it hard to score.

Agree2 Disagree1

Pardew is resting tiote plus he has an injury

no signings worth note, boo hoo, except for vunita a replacement for cheat titotty, who looks lost in premier league already, a bit like santone 5 million well wasted, cabaye off, krul off soon, ba off, cisse 1/2 season wonder,I think to survive relegation would be a triumph, 1 lucky season dont make a legacy, ha

Believable2 Unbelievable6

Lol, made me laugh. Mackems can be funny at times, which is nice cause you might need that sense of humour to entertain yourself......when watching Sunderland

Agree4 Disagree0

Wish the school holidays would finish soon.

Ed - any chance of a minimum age limit on here i.e. above ~13? ...Or a minimum literacy of a similar mental age perhaps?

DomW {Ed007's Note - I've just read that, maybe being of this earth should be the main criteria.}

Agree3 Disagree0

20 points SMB

Agree1 Disagree0

Andy is not coming back, he would rather goto west ham, tiote and cabaye on there way, hi vis tops for sale, money for rangers, only just beat a dreadful greek side, cisse 0 goals 5 games, ba 1 goal 5 games, man utd in cup,oh dear, 23000 fans go missing for big europa game,,and ryan taylor no lucky crosses this season,

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm a Sunderland fan and that made me laugh at how sad it was

Agree2 Disagree0

Makems are heading for champions league i here...fletcher is the best header of the ball in premiership according to mukams.....are you having a laugh.......jog on and worry about your own team.....k

Agree2 Disagree1

1 half decent signing and the smb are back out in force haha. Enjoy your european adventure to swansea this season by the way, make the most of it yea.

Agree2 Disagree2

25000 fans went missing on magic johnsons debut against morcambe even though it was £10 a ticket.......k

Agree1 Disagree1

The big question is "where is connor Wickham

Agree0 Disagree0

How many went missing in your first home and away game in europe?45 fans away lol 28k at home lol for europe.Sunderland took well over a thousand to SOUTH KOREA,also just under 23k against morcombe which i add was the highest of the night villa only had 15k stoke 9k west ham 18k was a good crowd.

We all know this already but I'll spell it out: We like what Ashley is doing for the financial stability and longevity of the club but to achieve that there are aspects that we don't like. The reason for this is because we are emotionally attached to the club; its all about how we feel. Dubuchy looks a good player and signing him might mean we get to keep our beloved Cabaye a bit longer and happier - all about feeling and not about business.

Ashley doesn't look at it that way. He sees an opportunity to improve the team and there is a maximum price that he is prepared to pay for that benefit based on how much that player will be worth in coming years. When that valuation is exceeded, he walks away because the deal is financially wrong -doesn't matter how it feels, there is no room for sentiment. If it keeps another player happy then thats a bonus but at the end of the day, there are other options and Cabaye is a grown up.

This is fundamentally why football clubs are generally bad businesses - they are often run from the heart by people who are fans or who are easily swayed by fan popularity. Popular opinion is bad for running countries and its bad for running businesses. They should be ruled by the head.

I know, you'll all say that is not how football should be. Actually, I agree with you in principal. However, the reality of football now, is that long term stability - even survival - of clubs depends on business acumen. It relies on having someone with the stones to pick a business model and stick to it - no exceptions. Never cave in. Never blink first. Never make decision based on sentiment or fan opinion. Walk away if the numbers don't add up. Even if it makes you unpopular.

So yes, right now I say trust in the strategy and don't panic. If the deal for Debuchy isn't right, then there are many other right backs out there. If we have to wait until January to get the right deal, then so be it. Thats what we did with Cisse and we ended up getting him for £9.5m instead of £15m. It's frustrating and I too am disappointed that we haven't signed more top players but as ever, i'm a hopeless optimist and the world may look different at 11pm tomorrow...or at 11pm on 31st Jan...or 31st August 2013.

Heads up, be patient and keep the negative thoughts inside. After all, it could be worse, you could have been born a mackem!

DomW

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Agreed.. The window isn't closed yet and the whingers are at it..

Agree2 Disagree1

Well said mate, we just need to relax wait till tomorrow and see what happens first thnig is qualifying for europe tonight!! find it funny that carroll is again outta liverpools lineup though.....would be cup tied if he played

Agree2 Disagree0

Best post on here for a while domW and never a true word said.......k

Agree0 Disagree1

'Popular opinion is bad for running countries'? Yeah, dictators are where it's at. Also... Gosling. Do you reckon he's ever going to grow into that goose we were promised?

Agree1 Disagree0

You're talking about business. I'm a football fan.
Different environment I'm afraid! (Maybe I'm on the wrong site)...... Or could it be you?

Agree1 Disagree0

Point is your the FAN its ashley,s buisness and he,s here to make money thats why he,s a billionaire and no fan on here is because he,s good at what he does its that simple.....k

Agree0 Disagree0

He's good at what he does?
Take a look at this window again mate.

If Krul gets injured what then not one person has said anything about that, the keepers we have are not good enough? well come on answer that one....

Believable1 Unbelievable2

I have always included a 2nd keeper on my wish list,

Agree0 Disagree1

Harper is good enough to be no.2 for one more season, Ole Soderberg is knocking around somewhere and didn'nt we sign another back up keeper last season too. That is 4 keepers currently on the books.

Agree1 Disagree0

Yes Elliott ,less said the better on him.

Agree2 Disagree0

How do you know if the others are any good,Harper to old for premiership. It just keeps getting worse, being a toon supporter its like begging Ash for cash,I for one hope no one else comes in and lets see Ash with egg on his face, from the egg man..........

Agree0 Disagree0

SODERBERG HAS GONE JAK ALNWICK IS ' NUMBER FOUR '

Agree0 Disagree0

Soderburg is no longer with us - plying his trade elsewhere.

Honestly how pathetic is our summer looking now people! After all the players we've been linked with it looks like we'll be carrying on as we are because the board are trying to get everyone on the cheap just because we managed it up until now! I know i'll get the standard "in Pardew and Carr we trust" responses but this is above their heads. Losing Debuchy over a million or two is ridiculous he would be worth £10mil to make sure we land him. I see this morning that spurs are after Remy again and look a lot closer than us, now i see they're after Llorente! these are the players WE should be chasing if they are available (which they are)! Yes a bargain is great like the ben arfa's, the ba's the cisse's but sometimes we just need to pay the money a player is worth! just because everyone knows how good a player is doesn't mean that player is now not worth buying!

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Stop complaining and go buy yourself a new away shirt !!! We have to support the team we have and not the team we hope for. They did a great job last season so dont see why they cant continue to improve.

Agree1 Disagree3

Sunderland supporter and what a good reply mate i like going on all sites for the banter as ye get some serious posts and some ones that make you laugh but at the moment every one seems on a downer on here. cheer up lads you had an exceptional season last year and you are playing european football tonight how many other clubs would be hoping for that.

Douglas has been spotted at training ground also carrol on his way back, we have have offered 12 million plus cancelling remaining payments owed to us. Arsenal, tottenham and citeh to bid for cabaye however the board will resit.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

I thought we always insisted on total cash and no instalments when we bought or sold?

Agree4 Disagree0

Not sure about when we selling as theres only us,city, and united and chelsea who pay cash for players all other teams pay instalments.....k

I've heard off two reliable sauces, red and brown, that David Beckham is NOT coming to Tyneside. He was in fact spotted two weeks ago driving his speedboat into London for a possible 78million pounds move to the biggest London club, Manchester United.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

30 Aug 2012 11:15:35
i reckon we should make a cheeky bid for that willian or m'vila if we end up having to sell cabaye or tiote for stupid money, thoughts??

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Should buy him without selling anyone

Will I am isnt he the one going round crashuin his car with Cheryl in it

30 Aug 2012 11:15:12
If as a lot of people are posting Debuchy isn't coming what do we think to a bid for Niel Taylor? Move Santon over to Rb, top young wing back, we were linked with him for £1 million last summer, think he might cost a bit more now but still won't break the bank? TRToon

Believable2 Unbelievable1

That would be embarrassing wouldn't it seeing as we were reluctant to go over £1m for him last time? Reckon Swansea will tell us to where to shove it. And I wouldn't blame them.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Aug 2012 11:08:20
Any news on strengthening the defence, cant understand why we havent made more of an effort here. We would have made the champions league last season if we hadnt shipped so many goals, this season is gonna be tougher. A lot to ask of Steven Taylor to stay injury free all season

Believable3 Unbelievable1

30 Aug 2012 10:43:24
What happens if someone get injured. How bench is bare its frightening. Bobby.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

The same as any other club (apart from the mega rich who can have 2 starting 11 teams).
What happens if Spurs lose Defoe? What if Liverpool lose Suarez? What if Chelsea lose Hazard and Torres? What if Man U lost Rooney and RVP?
It would be great to have 2 players for every position that were the same level of quality, but that will never happen. Injuries can not be prevented, however you have to try and cover yourself the best you can with the funds you have available. Our solution is to buy players who can play in a few different positions, which for us is the best way to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2012 10:37:50
We need a striker. IF we don't get on in the next 2 days we are going to be praying that nothing happens to Ba or Cisse. We don't have any cover for them. {Ed052's Note - Carroll could come in}

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Ed ,but do you really see AC returning ? {Ed052's Note - It is possible. Everything is explained here; http://player-profiles.co.uk/andy-carroll.php}

30 Aug 2012 10:34:20
if we dont sell anyone it wont have been a bad window, but i think fat mike missed a trick, if hed signed 2 poss 3 1st team players he would have had the backing of most newcastle fans, instead hes gonna lose alot of the support hes gained in the last 12 months.but to be honest i dont think he gives a damn...del

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Of course he doesn't give a damn. His only interest is in his company. Pays nowt for the privilege of all that tacky advertising and exposure. Nice work eh?

Agree1 Disagree1

Yeah he hasn't put a penny into Newcatle so what gives him the right to have advertising hoardings in the ground. If he had for example bought the club, and then ploughed in a load of his own money to pay off debts, then he would have every right to advertise the company that allowed him to buy the club and pay off debts in the first place. Oh, hang on a minute.

If Carroll, lets say is transferred to West Ham for £17m, does Newcastle receive a sell on fee of £4.25m. If that sell on clause is in place then surely a bid from Newcastle of say £14m would do the trick. Any views whether this is correct or not. {Ed052's Note - Carroll wont go to West Ham. If he mopves it'll be to you or SPurs}

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I believe the vast majority of sell on clauses only relate to profit made. So Newcastle would only get a % of any money above 35mill

Agree0 Disagree0

No one buys anyone for 35mill and puts in sell on clauses get real

Agree2 Disagree0

If u asked me 2 years ago who would 35 million for carrol the reply would of been NO ONE.....k

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2012 08:56:41
I think we should organise some kind of protest b4 and at half time with the lack of transfer activity? Obv it will fall on deaf ears but at least i would feel ive put my opinion across! Whos in?

Believable4 Unbelievable6

I'd rather just support the excellent players that we already have, rather than in effect say that those on the pitch are 'not good enough' as in your case.

Col

Agree5 Disagree2

LOL you lot are never happy, you think you have a top 4 team now so if no one leaves does that change or are you all panicking now, realising last season was a lucky fluke, SGB's the lot of you

Agree2 Disagree5

What we want is to sign some more quality players to deal with europe - not like you lot who sign trash for inflated fees. Get a team and a real stadium you SMB {Ed052's Note -

Agree2 Disagree3

Its not panicking to want to have a few more players in to help with the extra games in Europe we will play. That is something you unwashed won't have to worry about. It really says it all when you get excited about signing Flecther doesn't it. SMB.

Agree2 Disagree2

We have a team and a real stadium which we OWN!! not rented from the council,

Agree3 Disagree2

At least wait for the deadling to pass before you start complaining

Agree0 Disagree0

Rented or owned? It's about what's on the park and it that department and many others you will always be in our shadow.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2012 08:37:24
No more signings for nufc while all the clubs around us have splashed the cash to lmprove there teams spending 20 mil upwards we will end up midtable spending only 3 mil and when the s**t hits the fan the club will say they tried there best to sign players and its not there fault and blame other clubs for inflating fees, YET AGAIN THE CLUB WILL LET THE FANS DOWN THE SAME FANS THAT FILL SJP YES SJP NOT SDA EVERY HOME GAME

Believable4 Unbelievable3

'Yet again the club will let the fans down'. Yep, just like they let us down last season.
We would all love to sign more quality, but when more quality isn't available for prices we can afford we should not over stretch ourselves. Been there done that, don't want to see a repeat.

Col

Agree3 Disagree2

No mate it is the sportsdirect arena football club now, or in short SAFC

Agree3 Disagree4

If you are going oo do it do it right SDA not SAFC not even close is it. SMB.

Agree2 Disagree2

I have no idea what the person in the 1st post is trying to say? how have Newcastle let the fans down? Which clubs near us do you mean, geographically or from last years finishing table? I am not sure what you mean by splashing the cash, we haven't splashed any cash for a long time, if anything splashing cash on over valued players is a game we played along time ago and it didn't work, like it hasn't worked for Liverpool who splashed the cash last year and it didn't work for them. Everton didn't and we did throw money on over valued players and bought wisely and it works.

Agree1 Disagree2

30 Aug 2012 08:34:10
Just wanted to see what everyones reaction to this transfer window is, positive or not??

For me an embarrassment tbh. we had such a brilliant opportunity to take the club forward having qualitified for europe. yet we havnt used that to attract players. or at least stumped up the fees to purchase the quality we can now attract.

its pathetic.

Just my take on things, what do other people think?

Believable7 Unbelievable4

Not amazing (yet), but not terrible (yet). We could have signed some young quality players that will improve the team for years to come, and got rid of a few below par over paid players.........oh hang on.
We could have signed players at inflated rates, and gone back to the good old days of fat freddie as that went well last time.........oh wait on a second.
We could have signed any player that was offered to us, and was not in the selling clubs plans like Xisco, as he turned out to be an excellent transfer........where is he playing now? Thats right NUFC.

Or, we could have scouted very good players that because they are very good the teams that they currently play for do not want to sell. Thus making it more difficult to sign, and instead of paying inflated prices for these players 'keep our powder dry' (and not throw money away) wait and see what happens further down the line e.g Cisse.
Using Cisse as an example we could have easily paid the £15m we were allegedly quoted last summer, instead we waited and signed him for £9.5m (thats £5.5m towards another player).

The less money we spend on our targets means the more money we have to improve the squad as a whole. This is the only way we can compete at the top level, as we are not in the same league (financially) as City, Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, or even Spurs at the moment.

Col

Agree3 Disagree1

I couldnt agree with you more Col, at least someone who talks sense on this website. Personally, i think fan's get confused over "needs" and "wants" i.e. Do we really NEED to buy players? or is it that you WANT us to by players? there is a difference. e.g. we got Owen, did we NEED him....No but did fans WANT a big name signing....yes. It didnt work! also we dont have the kind of money to do that kind of transfer policy....thank God!

Agree1 Disagree1

Oh yes, we could have ended up like Leeds, Rangers, Portsmouth etc if we had shelled out just another £1m for a top European full back who we really wanted and who would have made a big difference to our team.
Yawn, yawn, yawn.....

Agree1 Disagree1

I'm glad i'm not the only one who thinks like this. You are right when you say there is a difference between need and want.
If club owners, and managers listened to fans, all clubs would be on the verge of finacial ruin. Of course we all want the best players, but only the clubs with bottomless pits of money can really go and get them.
Fans who complain about this player not coming and that player not being signed, are infact harming the club. Firstly, what does it say to the current players (Simpson being the current case, as apparently every left back in the world is better despite his efforts last season). Secondly, who do you think benefits when you pay over your valuation for a player (2 parties, the first being your competitors, which is other teams for those who are hard of thinking, and player agents who get a larger slice of the fee).
All this negativity about not signing players is absurd, as all that happens is the negativity spreads and the positive feeling about last season disappears.

For the record, i believe that there maybe 1 or 2 players coming in before the window shuts (just a feeling i have).

Col

Agree2 Disagree0

Totally agree with you Col, there are some fans who think with their heart not with their head. Newcastle are probably in the best position they have been in such along time. Keeping the players we have and only adding when needed makes perfect sense. Some of our top players have only played together for one season, Cabaye, HBA, Ba and Cisse. For me they would only get better the more they play together

Agree1 Disagree0

Brendan Rodgers has made it clear he wants to get rid of Andy Carroll, also Alan Pardew has said he didn't say the deal was dead, there is news on the skysports transfer clockwatch that Dimitar berbatov is to go to Fulham, would this mean Newcastle to buy Andy Carroll, for the Liverpool to go buy Clint Dempsey from Fulham, for then Fulham to go buy Dimitar berbatov? So 2 days left and we need 3 signings!

Anybody think we should be going in for Dawson if he is surplus to requirements at spurs? If the douglas deal is going no where surely this should be our fall back but personally I dont see why we are waiting for that - lets just go get him.

Striker wise, if Loic Remy is available, again why are we not in there.

Maybe it all hinges on how we do in the 2nd leg Thurs night? {Ed052's Note - Loic Remy is going to Spurs}
