the toon are looking good at the minute and we would be looking better if wasnt for our poor showing over the last month but at least we still up there and within touching distance of the big boys. if we had got the expected wins against norwich, swansea and WBA we would be flying but thats the beautiful game and thats why we love it but im really looking forward to the rest of the season and if we can pick up the same results as the first half of season and get wins instead of draws against lesser sides we will be getting close to a trip away. so come on lads give us fans more of the same!....spenny mag

Well its that time of year again...Mackems come on here claiming to be NUFC insiders and everyone claims they know someone who knows someone (who knows Alan McGee quite well...anyone remember that one?).
All we really know is what everyone knows... we will try to sign a senior centre back and maybe a younger one too if the opportunity is there. The need to sign a striker is not as desperate as we thought it would be - yes, we'll be without Ba for a while but the club could be forgiven for thinking that Shola and Best should be able to hold the fort for a while. I know you're thinking that they aren't up to it but realistically, there is no panic given our league position. Better to keep the powder dry until summer if the right striker isn't available at the right price.
Also, if (and its a very doubtful 'if') the right players ARE available, then we certainly have the funds to get them. Ashley's tight-fistedness isn't the issue here, its the willingness of clubs to let their best players leave in mid-season i.e. Un-bloody-likely.
Regarding potential leavers...I really can't see Krul going anywhere before summer as we have almost no cover let alone a replacement. Cabaye won't leave anytime soon either. I could see Tiote going but only if an insane amount of money is offered and I won't panic about that because in my opinion, we've already seen that he can be covered better than most.
Just because Carroll left last year, doesn't mean we'll sell our best players every year. That was an opportunity that couldn't be turned down and lets face it, who would want him back for £10million now let alone £35million? While we'r on the subject of leavers, is anyone doubting the wisdom of letting Barton and Nolan go either? Not me.
All in all, January will be much busier in the minds of the Press than it will at Newcastle. We'll try to sign a few and probably won't be very sucessful and we'll look much the same in February.
So keep calm and carry on.

I think what they guys saying is trust the manager which we didnt do in the summer but he has left most of us with egg on our faces now so im with him in we should and have to trust AP as he is doing great! I cant see any first teamers leaving unless for big sums but we will be strengthining as needed for sure....spenny mag

Just seen the highlights of todays game. The team done well - back to looking good. Iv defended Obertan before on here, and I think today he showed his worth - i like his skill and pace and he just needs confidence which he showed today.
Only chnage I would make now is to start Ben Arfa instead of Best - though I see that maybe Pardew is keeping Best in the team/match fit and ready for when Ba goes so he is used to playing with everyone, and maybe then Ben Arfa will get a good run of games.
