good run out tonight.. the class shone through from Colo,Tiote Ba Cisse, Santon the rubbish shone through Obertan Shola, in between some good youngsters and decent performances from squad players, defo need RB and CB like to see a couple more (Striker) and its another good season. toon des

Believable6 Unbelievable4

Obertan is and always will be below par...worse player in a toon shirt for years

Agree8 Disagree3

Obertan, what does he offer?in my view he is one hell of a lucky player to be where he is today, people are willing him to do well, and to be honest he is awful, dont even think he is a prem player!and it awful to say but true

Agree9 Disagree2

Let's just wait till the start of the season and give him a final chance.

Agree3 Disagree4

If you enjoyes that you have problems
We week 2nd Best just like against Mónaco
Passing 80% awful
Yes just a run out Elliott is not a Premiership goalkeeper € Obertans abysmal he can only improve
The kids Were Good

Agree3 Disagree2

Obertan is pretty slick with his feet, He is very close to being a lethal player but he needs to work on his execution. He would be useful for counter attacking but in build up play he is wasteful.

Agree2 Disagree5

Tbh i am not worried shola performing below par in pre season training, he had a great season just being, may not have scored many but played a vital role against manu, and against sunderland. and seemed good off the bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we start with Ben Arfa Cabaye Tiote in midfield along with Cisse and Ba we only have one place left in midfield and I should think Obertans ic currently behind about 5 options maybe more if you count the new youngsters

Agree6 Disagree0

I would like to see Marveux in the middle with Tiote and Cabeye. Nice touch player with god range of passing. Making of a very good midfield trio.

Agree4 Disagree0

For me with the players we have..ba cisse..Marveux tiote cabaye arfa...santon coloccini taylor perch....need striker, midfield, CB and RB backup

Agree1 Disagree0

Gutierrez cannot be dropped, His workrate and experience is 2nd to none.

If there is no place for him in midfield then drop him back to Left back where he was superb last season and let Santon learn from him.

Agree1 Disagree0

Jonas is not a left back. Alright for emergencys but not to start there.

Agree1 Disagree0

Agreed^but put Santon at RB.

A striker, centre back, left back, right back? Has anyone thought about the problem if Krul gets injured? Harper too old and Elliott is absolute crap,as he proved once again tonight with one save to make and he got nowhere near it. He looks in a panic if he gets a back pass. He is what level he came from, league one. We need a decent back up keeper and i wish Pardew would not insult our intelligence by saying Elliott will push Krul for number 1 spot. Wake up Alan, the boy is not good enough.

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Agree I don't think Elliott will ola in a game
without conceding he is poor & NUFC need
wake up & the Players we need or face the
consequences

Agree4 Disagree0

Harper is a very safe pair of hands, And when it comes to goal keepers age is not really relevant as they are not required to cover any ground, So long as his reflexes are sharp thats all that matters to a keeper.

Agree4 Disagree2

Agree with the last post. Harper is still a quality keeper and could still be the number 1 for any of the mid table clubs or newly promoted - if we didnt have Krul he would prob still be our number 1. His experience is vital and I hope he gets a run out this year - was kinda sad to see him pushed to one side last year after all he has put into the club. If we had him in for the Europa games and then young players I think thats good.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harpers save with his face puts him ahead on Elliot. What a Legend!

I have a feeling that all our transfer business will be done once we get back from Germany, maybe we've tied up some deals but it's not gonna be done until Pardew arrives back. And maybe with Debuchy we're just waiting for him to get back from holiday?

Believable1 Unbelievable3

On the last 2 work out games we lack flair and the passing is awful
The young lads looked Good to night but we need 2 defenders NOW

Agree3 Disagree1

2 defenders and to place Obertan in a human size catapult and aim for the moon.

Agree5 Disagree0

We need to try and swap obertan and cash for remy and that will get rid of him

Agree1 Disagree0

That's actually not a bad idea at all......^

Agree1 Disagree0

I have to be honest i would prefer if Newcastle did not do business with Man Utd. ABU and that includes their players.

Agree0 Disagree2

All weve had from them is crap leave it to sunderland to sign their rejects

I do trust in Pardew and Carr but I am getting a little concerned that we KO in 4 weeks and as yet have not had a signing that will improve us from last season, lots of names have been mentioned lots of money being talked about but nothing concrete. We had a great season last year but we all know that in defence we were very shaky and because of that we played to deep (there were times when Jonas didnt get out of our half for long periods) we need a defence where along with Tiote in front of them the attack go forward with confidence, this wont happen if we start with Williamson and Simpson ( they were just about adequate last season) Still 4 weeks is still a long time in football Toon Toon

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Patience plenty time yet lol

Agree2 Disagree1

I for one are not worried about the lack of signings. We have a very good squad with some very talented youngster coming through who are pushing for some 1st team action. Where we are short is at the back. We need to get a RB (Debuchy hopefully) and a CB. If it take sa little longer to get the right person then so be it. We always take our time in the windows and have done very well out of this policy. Keep the faith.

Agree3 Disagree0

The season doesn't start for another 4 weeks (about) we want to see players fitness leading into the season, and not sign a player that will be constant injury worry (Michael Owen)

Ed, I don't understand why deals take so long ? Agree a price ! Agree personal terms , if you can not move on to next target ! We have been trying to sign dubuchy , Douglas for weeks , will will run out of time with no one signed . Any help on this it's doing my heed in ! {Ed001's Note - because it is negotiations over millions of pounds, they take time, you can't just accept paying a couple of mill extra, it affects your entire budget. By the same token, the other party can't accept a couple of million less easily.}

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Fair enough but still. Very frustrating none the less

Liverpool fan here. Cant believe the hostility between us on here! NUFC are my 2nd team. Go up once a season with my mate whos a geordie. Anyway....from what I know atm: LFC are holding out for 20m for AC, NUFC wont pay over 15m but think its likely an agreement will be made somewhere in between, but closer to 15m than 20m as LFC want to sell more than NUFC want to buy. As for the player + cash its nonsense. NUFC dont want Ba to leave and LFC dont want to sign Ba because of his dodgy knee. If he had a dodgy knee and was deemed a risk to sign on a free then surely it still applies now! Ben arfa wont go as LFC will want cash aswell and Ben arfa is already a better player than Carroll. And the rest, well why would anyone want to leave NUFC after last season. With regards to people saying BR has been harsh with AC, I dont believe this is true. Hes been honest with AC and the Liverpool board and has given both AC and LFC the best possible opportunity to cut their losses. Think it is such a public deal because after AC Milan came in it was a good opportunity to drum up some interest by going public. In regards to NUFC signings, I hope you get Debuchy as the lad is outstanding! Him, santon, colo and one other with Krul in the sticks is champions league quality. Douglas imo though wouldnt be a big miss if you dont get him. Hes slow. Get Kelly or Coates on loan from us as part of the AC deal you should lol! Hoilett was a lucky escape aswell I think. Hes overated. Marveaux is a very good player as we will hopefully witness next year. Still could do with a wide man though. But Im sure Carr knows where to find one. We shouldve given you 35m for Carr! And then some squad players. Anyway...heres to hoping that BR does get LFC back to where we want to be and that AP gets the geordies into the CL. Love to see us both top 4 with chelski and man city next year and see utd lose out! I would absolutely love it if we beat them!
Howay the lads/you'll never walk alone
Elliott

Believable6 Unbelievable0

We dont need another wide man we need another out and out left back and let santon play out on the wing he a better alround player going forward than defending

Agree3 Disagree1

Hi Elliot, its just early season banter you always get some people who will go over the top we just have to live with them Toon Des

Agree2 Disagree0

I dont support liverpool or newcastle mate but the interview with brendan rogers says it all liverpool want 20mill for carroll if that is not given than he will keep him. he says that carroll does not fit into the style of play he wants at liverpool but if he has to play him then he and them will have to adapt. so unless newcastle up there bid then carrolls only other option would be a move abroad as cant see any other english team splashing out 20mill for him

Agree0 Disagree0

Sit on the bench.........

Reading a lot of posts and I think most people like myself believe we need a RB, CB, Midfielder and a striker. some suggestions.
the RB postition seems sorted (?) with Debuchy. however is this deal ever going to be done? Boswinga still available on a free (experienced, and the free will make up for his wage).

CB position has some doubts with Douglas, plus his anger problems . I'd preffer Zapata from villareal (now religated) or Mbia (cover both CM and Def mid)

For Midfield I'd have like to have seen someone like Gago at the toon, capable of def or offensive midfield, however he just signed for Valencia. A young midfielder called Yacob is being courted by West brom, he's good (i've seen him play once or twice) and he's free. or Lassana Diarra is looking for a move (all these players could fill cabaye or tiotes job if suspended or injury)

For a striker I'd like us to drop the Andy Carroll stuff, yes he's a handful, but that's off the pitch too. personnaly i'd like to see someone like Luc Castaignos come in on loan..

...one other thing is PSG has released a lot of good young players, basicaly wiped the youth team clean now they have loads of money, we should take a look at them. one of them, Banvo Anderson an 18yr old striker is on trial at blackpool, this kid is 6'2" scored 23 goals for the reserves last season. future star for free.

who would others like to see in these positions and try to be realistic

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Us realistic when you say get lassana diarra as backup he will cost about 20m and wages of about 80k at least

Agree0 Disagree2

Diarra is not wanted by his team, not a key player last season. yes his wage will be high (but so was Smith's and he's gone, get rid of obertan and his wage it's about sorted) but to buy him will be very cheap, rumours of as little as 4-5m.
