A lot has been said about money and all the players we should buy... a lot of fans are frustrated by us not spending 35 odd million... I would rather see good business than ludacris spending... what frustrates me more so is I know it could be done for 7 to 10 million... but I am patient and do have faith in a few more signings coming in before the start of the season... too much negativity for a squad that is obviously better than last season already...

As I have said before I think we have been very smart for once, not spent stupidly and have done some very good business so far... think four signings combined with losing the dead wood and bringing through a few very promising youngsters and it would put us in a good position for next season and with a better team and squad...

Check out the Newcastle Teams page for what I think the squad should be for next season and how it should be done... let me know if you agree or what you think back here... cheers lads

I don't care how much is spent as long as some is spelt I would rather have someone like Bangura or a Carr special than paying £20 million on someone.

Agree2 Disagree1

Was meant to say spent bad word to spell wrong haha

Agree1 Disagree1

Krtoon one of the daftest posts ye put on mate, obviously ye squad will be looking better at the moment ye got rid of 1 first team player and brought in 3 players mind im not sure if they will score more goals combined than nolan did himself last year but time will only tell.
one gary rowell

Agree2 Disagree0

Expected a bad reaction to this one gary lad to be honest, but if you know the club, who will go over the next season, what ashleys plans are (not to strip the club for all its worth for those who think so) and know and have seen the academy players play multiple times, logic dictates that with the new wage and age cap the team i posted minus the signings wouldnt be far off what will be there come the end of the season. now a few would say we would be relegated with a team like that, but the ones that know better, the ones that have seen these players play, and listen to the likes of Beardsley, one of the best players to ever play in the shirt, the man who works with these players every day, you would know that come the end of the season that squad would be a hugely promising base to build from with no dead wood in it whatsoever...

As for the four signings made in Ba, Cabaye, Marveaux and Abeid, plus Ben Arfa and Gosling... dont be silly lad, Cabaye and Ben Arfa will get more than Nolan did between them, guaranteed... and time will tell whether Ba or another striker scores as much as Carroll did... and as far as these players improving the team, come the second half of last season all Nolan had the ability to do was stand in the box and grab a goal, huge reason we got destroyed possession wise by a lot of teams and poor aul Tiote had to bust a gut saving us from not being walked straight through, reason he got booked so much, not because he is a dirty player, was because Nolan couldnt run.. as I said though, point taken on my personal choice of the signings I think we could make, given Ashley wont be spending anywhere close to 35 million, think that would be the best case scenario but many would disagree.. cheers for the feedback anyway lad, appreciated as always

KRTOON

Agree2 Disagree2

Krtoon in my opinion i think you will regret the selling of nolan with him last year he was the player the rest of your team looked upto and when the going got tough he was the inspiration the rest of the lads looked to, players like him are hard to come by. who is going to be ye leader this year no one on the current team. last season under nolan when ye played us in both games ye were like men against boys across middle of park henderson and almohamady overawed. nolan will almost definately be plying his trade in the premiership in a couple of seasons with whu ye just want to hope they not replacing nufc and im not being biased as i would like to see all the local teams in the top flight as the rivalry is the highlight of the season.
one gary rowell

Agree0 Disagree0

Over rawed? Against sunderland? Henderson doing it? Did you watch the same games man? You were walloped in first game and got lucky late goal in 2nd game

Agree0 Disagree1

If ye read the post daft lad i have stated that henderson and almohamady were both overawed by the size of the games and really we should have played with more experiance in midfield as newcastle made it look like it was. men against boys in both games and i do admit we were lucky to get away with 5 in first game but without nolan i fancy revenge in both games this season as i dont think ye young french kids will have played in a game like this and i will be dissapointed if we dont take 6 or at least 4 points this season.

Agree1 Disagree0

Nolan played up front in that game or at least most of it and it was tiote and barton who controlled the game in midfeild and both of these players are still at the club so not expecting you lot to mount a serious challenge in that are plus the french lads are apparently really nippy and pacey so theyre goona case problems plus you expect to take 6 or 4 points this season? I still think you aiming high Im expecting 3 from our home tie and a good go away fro at least a point

Agree0 Disagree1

If nolan played upfront in both those games more reason to keep him as ye could have used him as ye number 9 this season

Agree0 Disagree1

He played there as had no other decent strikers but not prodominatley a striker but could get goals My point was our midfield shouldnt get overturned this year by a midfield we dominated so easily last year but saying that its looking like you lot will have a new starting 11 completely so all to new and all to play for Doubt they will gel by 2nd game tho

Agree0 Disagree0

Could be right but both teams should have more new signings in by then so who knows

Agree0 Disagree0

Time will tell and thats the beauty of the game and why we have rivalry and look forward to the season so much

If Newcastle pay £6-8 million for a striker Pardew will be talking it up as if Ashley is almost broke.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Ashley broke you must be a makem he, s just give sports direct employers 49k each which i could spend 40 million and be broke....he, s not wanting to spend as its clear he wants to sell and trying his hardest not to spend thats why i notice you smb, s have the 40 to 50 million you, s where saying you, s had cos you, s have nowt either your spending henderson money thats it...fact fact fact smb, s

Agree2 Disagree4

It was a joke haha

Agree3 Disagree0

I, ll tell yer a joke we going to sign...defoe, crouch, nzogbia, ngog, berbatov, adam johnson, cos we got 50 to 60 million to spend and we at seaham hall with brucie...hahahaha thats all i, ve heard for past month well let me tell you if you had another 10 to 15 million to spend you would be buying nzogbia if he would come but your like us not much left you, s have spent henderson money thats it...any geordies agree what about you edd....

Agree1 Disagree5

What are you going on about I'm not even a mackem haha.

Agree2 Disagree0

No matter what we spend AP will say MA is broke but we all know he wont be he just tight MY mam used to tell me money goes to money and you dont get rich by spending your money This is why MA wont spend

Agree0 Disagree1

How old are u 7?

Agree1 Disagree1

Why? you after a date? It makes sense and if you read between the lines the point was if you wanna make money you gotta be sensible with the money you got and ashley is being sensible by not splashing the clubs money around as if its going out of fashion you T***

Mags in Melt-down. Carroll gone, Nolan gone, Barton long-gone, Enrique going, Taylor going, Perch & Guthrie going. New French contingent not getting it together ... oops Ashley getting very agitated what chance new manager in Oct or Nov?

Believable7 Unbelievable4

My guess your a Mackem and to be honest the Sunderland fans I know would be embarrassed by your stupid little outburst. The reason for this is they know what they're talking about. Go post your rubbish on the Sunderland site.

Agree6 Disagree4

Im pretty sure you have good sources to know who's going I'm also guessing our kid friends with our French lads? no, so stop trying to make your club sound bigger and better, cause you all just fail in trying to do that

Agree0 Disagree0

This isnt a bias comment cos im a mag fan but in all honesty i can see NUFC surprising a few people this year and improve on last years showing Can also see SAFC struggling cos the play may have brought players in but they not really any good The 2 man utd lads are not bad to be honest but theyve had their day thats why fergie let them go Also no pace in the taem as a whole its no good having a canny defence if you cant score

Agree0 Disagree1

Ye just sold ye top 2 scorers carrol and nolan and replaced them with who ?

Agree1 Disagree0

Where have you been Carroll was sold in January so we haven't JUST sold him have we?
Also haven't you lost two strikers since January and replaced them with Dong Wong who and that college kid.

Agree2 Disagree0

And what your fans described as your best midfielder(henderson) gone So looks like your in a worse position than us We got rid of carroll in jan and still picked up points without him so now you lot must prove you can do it without henderson and wellbeck who you had till end of season

Agree0 Disagree0

Sick of hearing how NUFC have only signed frencj kids when the facts are thatw e have only signed 1 player under 21 and thats older than the 18 year old tractor boy so how are we only signing kids from france? Its just plain stupidity from the SMBs

Agree0 Disagree1

Since when did sunderland fans say henderson was our best midfielder? talking utter rubbish as the other lad said its just plain stupidity from the SGBS

Agree0 Disagree0

You were all twisting about it on your page Read that one before you comment Plus he was your best midfielder so you in same boat as us

I thought with Villa being in chrisis it would be another team below us to cushion us in the league, but they seem to reinvesting in some big buys now. I find this a little disconcerting . Anyone else share my apprehesion ?

Believable5 Unbelievable4

I have every faith in the fact we will finish above villa They have lost too many players of quality to replace and recover from Young by far a better player than zog too

Agree0 Disagree0

Downing and young both gone the money will be invested in the club by signing players. caroll and nolan gone money invested in the club for new signings not bent will be knocking on the door for 20 plus goals this season ba wont play 20 games villa certs to finish above newcastle i just hope its not 2nd or 3rd off bottom as this will give you a clue where i think newcastle are going to finish lads

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant see us finishing above Villa to be honest, but as far as being 2nd or 3rd from bottom, not a hope lad, lets just hope the Villa underestimate us as much when we come to play them

Agree0 Disagree0

Young downing made most of bents goals last term and even tho i can see bent still getting goals i dont think the lads brought in have as much quality as the lads that have left Given would be a great signing tho but i still see us finishing above villa and if not above then around same position

Agree0 Disagree0

Find that hard to believe if press reports are right about nzogbia coming to villa then he should give him the service and dont say he wont as i have been reading reports on here the last few weeks and 99% of you lot want him back but his chosing a club with ambition and money to spend to get there

Agree0 Disagree0

I was one of the fans who said i didnt want zog back not cos he cant play cos he can but cos he a mercenary He would be a good signing for villa but still would rather have young or downing

Last nights friendly being the first in pre season was mainly being used as a fitness exercise prior to the trip to America but also gave the staff their first real look at the team in a match situation, and along with a couple of positive signs from the new lads the fans also got reminded of a couple who may have been slighlty overlooked amidst the focus on acquiring new players

Haris Vuckic, who has been one who has been purposely kept quiet while developing through the academy, and only last year was rumoured to have Man Utd sniffing around as a potential one for the future for them, started the game and showed signs of what he is capable of and how he has come on as a player in the past year or two.. He is a confident lad with composure under pressure, likes to be on the ball and create chances, and most importantly for a young lad in the premiership, has the physical strength to make the step up... I for one hope that he does get his chance this year to integrate into the first team squad and make the next step in his development, think he could surprise a few

I think when everyone heard of another Ameobi coming up through the ranks they were thinking he would never amount to much but Sammy Ameobi is another who will surprise a few I think.. He has come on leaps and bounds over the last year for the reserves, scoring 10 goals in 17 appearances last year, versatile young player who can play either wing or up front, has a lot of pace, very direct in his play, likes to take on players, and seems to have a really good attitude and hunger to improve and push for a place in the first team in the future.. He came on in yesterday and made an immediate impact, taking on the full back at the edge of the box, cutting outside and rifling a shot into the net with his left... Again he is another one who I think will be given his chance to develop further with the first team squad and more so, deserves his chance

As for the new signings....

I think like everyone I was excited yet apprehensive about the return of Hatem Ben Arfa... The lad obviously has bundles of talent, and in a forward role could terrorize defences on the counter with his pace and dribbling ability, but since the leg break I think there was a seed of doubt, not on the recovery to fitness front so much, but the mental side, whether the injury would affect his game, confidence to take on players, take hard challenges, be as fearless in running at opposition... After last night I think a lot of them worries have been put to rest... Most impressive of all seemed to be his work rate and fitness, well above what most peoples expectations were, seemed like a lad that was simply delighted to be back playing football and hungry to repay the faith shown in him by Newcastle.. Also on the ball he showed no signs of worry as regards the physical side of the game, ever willing to take on players and get stuck in and is one who came away with the most praise from Pardew last night... Personally delighted at this one, genuinely think if he could be the new iconic player on tyneside, definitely the name that will be going on the back of the new shirt this season

Next is Cabaye, think everyone was very interested to see what he was all about, and although he didnt start the game, came on earlier than expected due to Guthrie getting injured... Within minutes of being on the pitch he showed one side of his game, striking from 30 odd yards just wide of the target, and in the second half had another go from range from a free kick, knew he took set pieces for Lille but he showed he is a confident player that has no problem having a go from distance.. Apart from that he showed glimpses of why Pardew and his staff have been talking this guy up, a very cultured, intelligent player who suttly pulls the strings, linking the play between defence and attack, allowing wingers and forwards to make runs... obviously the trip to America will give us a much better look at him but think this could be a very clever signing and a great replacement for Nolan, as well as being the sort of player that will compliment Tiotes off the ball hard work

Finally we come to Mehdi Abeid, an unknown entity to everyone including myself before we signed him, Tiote and Ben Arfa supposedly held hm in high regard and were delighted to see us take him on.. Think he was brought in to go into the reserves initially and see how he develops over the season, but he has apparently really impressed in training, so much so that Pardew rewarded him with a place on the plane to America, so we will all get to see what potential this lad has at some stage in pre season i m sure.. think Pardew is thinking if he keeps up the way he has gone so far that he will be straight into the first team squad... Only got a small cameo last night but in that time had a goal chalked off for offside and from what I have seen of him is a yet another versatile, technically gifted midfielder who, if he develops well should provee to be a very clever signing and be a real prospect

So in conclusion I think that there is a lot of positives to be taken from the game last night and I am really looking forward to the games in America now to see more of our new signings and young talents from the acadmy and reserves... Also think the new style of play in the 4.2.3.1 formation looking to be implemented by Pardew with the players we have at our disposal could provide some very entertaining football this season, all we need now is a very good signing up front to make the most of our new found creativity if and when Demba Ba isnt available and a couple more young prospects to back up the centre mid and left back positions and we should be in for a good season on tyneside

What's happening with Smith?

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post mate, alot better than the usual ashley and pardew haters complaining about a lack of investment. to be fair to them both and the scouts such as graham carr, they are making all the right moves, the signings made so far, including ben arfa and gosling, are relatively young and exciting additions, they should all be able to improve the squad. all i would like to see now is a striker and a left back, i heard van aanholt could be available due to ryan bertrand being given a new contract at chelsea, if these two come off we are in for exciting times.

Agree3 Disagree0

Thank you for all that, sounds like a lot of good players come in, potential with a few good younsters, all we need is another good strike to go with Demba Ba (have Airey and Sammy Ammy as back up)

sorry but some people on this site are rediculous you expect us to be splashing out all this cash on S*** players why dont you stop hacking off ashley? dont get me wrong a dont like him but the club is stable and wouldnt be if it wasnt for him. if we go and spend 20 mil on sturridge and 10 mil on n'zog (who left the club for 6mil) thats 30mil on 2 players. ones a greedy git with an attitude problem and ones a player with very good potential but not much experiance and not work 20 MILLION POUNDS pardew is our manager. hes putting his own twist on the club and putting some dicipline in there. all the players respect him and he knows what hes doing so let the bloke get on with his job and stop saying hes a spineless puppy coz thats a load of bull

i think alot of people need to take a step back and actually take a look at what weve already got yeah we need a left back and another striker but hey. signings in the last year

tiote:3.5 mil = outstanding player
ben arfa: 5 mil (i think) = outstanding player
ba: free = did brilliant for west ham last season and looks like a right handful
cabaye: 4.5 mil = looks to be another brilliant signing played very well tonight.

and you want to pay 10mil for n'zogbia and 20 for sturridge ad rarther eat my own foot and a dont blame ashley nd pardew not going for that there actually using there brains and not spending money which we dont have

basically what am saying is give them time to make good and the correct signings for the correct amounts of money not 20 million and wait and see what we have at the start of the season. because to me things are looking up so stop being all doom and gloom and get behind our team :)

what do you think ed? {Ed042's Note - To be a top club on and off the pitch you have to look at how they do things on and off the pitch, the club and Pardew has said we are looking at the Arsenal mould and philosophy in how we should develop for the future, this means well scouted, technically gifted and talented young players for cheap, if done right this creates one of two scenarios, either the player doesnt develop too well, we sell them at no loss, or the player comes good and either develops the team or gets sold on for huge profit, to be invested in developing squad depth with young potential, look at where this philosophy got Arsenal, now look at the times Wenger has spent over 10 million on a player, it has been only eight times in fourteen years, and out of those, Reyes, Jeffers, Wiltord and Hleb are seen as major flops, Vermaelen, Nasri and Henry were all top signings, and Arshavin was a good one, that basically adds up to a 50% return on spending big money, spending big money doesnt guarantee you get quality, look at Liverpool, wasted an unbelievable amount of cash over the years, and this year between Carroll, Henderson Downing and Suarez they have spent the guts of 100 million, all good players but not one regarded as genuine world class..... as for the Ashley bashing there will always be split opinions, the owner we love to hate, but think people forget how bad Shepperd was for the club, was running it into the ground and the soap opera that was newcastle under his command was nothing short of embarassing, made the club a laughing stock, stick to the closed door policy, blank out the media, and get on with business, know the fans that are so used to hearing every little detail every day about the club dont like that, but its how the top clubs are ran}

Believable8 Unbelievable3

Very good post, Ashley is a very astute guy who will get it right just look at his company Sports Direct, amazing, every member of staff gets a bonus of £40000 on their £20000 basic. The jury is out on Pardew

Spot on, couldn't of put it any better myself. A lot of people with short memories come on here spouting bollox, they wouldn't have a club to whinge about if it wasn't for Ashley.

every opportunity MA gets he does best to let us down, every transfer window without fail brings disappointment wether it be selling players on deadline day carroll/milner or promising money to be spent on players, some fans seem to think the sun shines out of his @rse, cant they see its all broken promises to sell season tickets.
why should we start the season hoping to finish 10th, prior to MA the least a nufc supporter would expect from a season was european place even challenging liverpool/arsenal for a champions league spot, these used to be our rivals, now look who our rivals are fulham/stoke etc.
i know last year was our 1st season back and i was pleased apart from losing a 3 goal lead and it costing us 9th place.when we sold carroll i was gutted but started thinking maybe he will invest the money so we could push on and atleast aim for europe this year...but true to form hes only gone and let us down again.if he doesnt spend this year he never will.
theres a few mags think hes doing a good job, also theres 1000s of mackems think hes doing a fantastic job ...

Believable4 Unbelievable4

Im a Sunderland fan, and I think what MA has done, is sorted the club out for you's, you would of went bankrupt If the club was still run the way it was. Most of your fans thought they ran the club, and when MA took over being a billionare most of you thought he would spend millions on big players, and as soon as you found he wasnt going to, you all turned on him, you have been spoilt by the hundreds of millions you spent on players in the past, but look what he has achieved now, he has turned the club around and got you out of debt, you need to accept that no big signings are going to be made, and then you wont be upset about it, good luck for next season, think you will need it.
