Definately need a stiker and left back but woried that we looking to pay roughly the same price for either position. A left is important to the team for both defending and helping to start attacks.

But surely spending more on striker who will score goals that turns loses into draws and draws into wins is more important for us to finish in the top half of the table which should be the least of our ambition if we are to kick on from last season and re-establish out selves as a premier club and get into Europa cup.

i see fergie trying to loan out macheda weve been linked.not keen on loan deals especially when there would be little or no chance of signing them permantly ,would only benefit man u.

Just for info:
Modibo Maiga-23 y.o
2010/11- 15gls in 35 games for Sochaux
2009-10- 7gls in 23 games for Sochaux
2008-09- 8gls in 26 games for Le Mans

For Mali-full int'ncl- 1gl in 10 games.

Compare that with other strikers who we could get and I think its a huge risk. T
Psycho

Believable5 Unbelievable0

His goal scoring rate seems to be getting as time goes by Look at henry he didnt exactly get a lot of goals before he joined arsenal and with this lad being only 23 it looks like he is improving with age so not too risky really considering some of the strikers we been linked with for the same kind of money

cant beleive how unfit some nufc players looked against arsenal

Believable5 Unbelievable0

What do you expect. Half the sqaud endured the panto trip to the states - energy sapping heat and jet lad hardly helps fitness. Half the squad stayed at home - little opportunity to gel as a team. We were lucky Arsenal were poor

Agree4 Disagree0

I thought puppet pardew said the players were as fit as they have ever been and the stas back that up.

must be the same stats that makes £35m dissapier from balance sheets

Lol i need to learn how to spell. (disappear)

Question.. Can anyone remember late 50s early 60 toon beating a team from Brazil. I think they were called Bella Vista and Author Bottom and Len White both scored 5 goals, or was I dreaming

Believable2 Unbelievable0

You weren't dreaming. I was there.

Agree1 Disagree0

I thought I they did, were you also there when we beat everton 8 2 and man utd 7 3

just want to say, all the people that complained about Pardew now trying int he tranfer window and that we were in for a disapointing summer. Well it looks like hes making moves for as many players as possible. Like i said lets wait until 1st September to judge TOON TOON

Believable10 Unbelievable5

Well said mate some people will twist on 21

Agree4 Disagree2

Agreed. There's no point judging the success of a transfer window until it's over. We all know how much business gets done in the last 24 hours and that's a while away yet.

No idea if there's truth behind the rumours regarding Aly Cissokho, but if so, we should strike while the iron's hot. We need a solid LB and he more than fits the bill.

Agree4 Disagree0

We needed to have left back and no.9 sorted out for start of season.we play mackems at weekend and even if we sign two players chances are they wouldnt do themselves justice in such a short space of time...del

Agree3 Disagree0

Pardew promised he would sign players this summer who would exccite the crowd. Are you exited by what he has signed so far - free transfers and bargain basenent deals. Our most expensive signing lookd out of place, out of touch and totally off the pace against Aresenal. Excited - I could wet myself. Now in the last few weeks he is chasing anybody and everybody - the good ones will not sign and we will not pay the money for quality. Now you are saying wait until the 1st Sep - what cloud do you live on

Agree4 Disagree4

Can't argue with any of that. If we were going to let JE go, we should have had a replacement lined up. £6m ffs.

But that's not how it works. We should know this by now. Same story - different season.

We'll see how it goes. LB, striker, 100%. That's what Pardew said. Newcastle Utd is a business.

Agree1 Disagree0

Obviously you don't know how to spot the real quality of a player, Cabaye is a league above what we have in a creative sense at the moment, were you expecting an aguero style performance 1st game like?

Agree1 Disagree1

Cabaye will be a good player, it was his first game in the epl for ffs. As for enrique a new lb should of been purchased before letting him go and we should of had a new striker by now. rant over

Agree1 Disagree1

Players need to find there feet
Look at enrique when he arrived didn't look promising did he

Agree0 Disagree2

Remember it tokk shearer 5 games to score for us Let the lad settle as it was only his first game in the premier and was against a good side

Agree0 Disagree0

Times ticking lads, but I wouldn't get your hopes up on big name signings, Championship players or players from abroad that are not that well known I'd say being honest

MAIGA...WHAT A JOKE.

£8m for an unproven 23 year old, with little pace a bad attitude and off to the African Nations in the New Year.

We could have had Long for less. This smacks of panic buying again.

I really hope this does not happen, don’t want Radallega either, Bendtner for me or any one of the Chelsea players that Lukaku replaces regardless of age Anelka or Drogba would do well for us and Kalou is better than anything else we have and of course I'd love to have Sturridge.

Believable10 Unbelievable4

By bad attitude i'm sure your referring to him refusing to play to try and get the moved pushed through?
HBA did the same thing to get to Newcastle on loan.
Kalou won't be sold by Chelsea the fans will crucify someone if they sell one of the younger players cause of the "ageing" squad

Agree2 Disagree0

Get real

Agree1 Disagree0

Somethings gotta give at chelsea theyve got loadsa strikers and new manager still interested in more, remember youre only allowed a 25 man squad

Agree2 Disagree0

I would bet the mortgage that you haven't ever seen maiga play, yet jumping on the doom and gloom wagon, wait to see what happens before criticising

Agree1 Disagree1

And then its too late

do we really want a striker who refuses to play for sochoax just cos he cant get his own way on a move to the toon, i mean whos to say if we sign him and another club come in for him then he will go on strike with us so he can push forward a move to the next club i for one dont want a player like that but lets hope he proves me wrong

Believable5 Unbelievable4

Better than trying get somebody like Erding for months, who clearly just did not want to come though

Lets hope which ever striker comes in can surprise us all, as its very unlikely to be a high profile player

Agree3 Disagree1

Did you want ben arfa?

Agree2 Disagree0

Hatem Ben Arfa did it and no one is complaining about him being unloyal now.

Agree3 Disagree0

Isn't this how Ben Arfa got his transfer??

Agree2 Disagree0

Just let him suffer and put him upfront with Strolla Ameobi so he has to do all the work

Agree0 Disagree0

Shola actually won stuff genst arsenal but there was no one to pick up pieces. ba was tsih

Agree4 Disagree2

Well actually marsielle were unloyal to ben arfa by taking away the number 10 away from him. all he said was i am interested in a move to newcastle and try english football. after they did that to him he left and forced a move to be honest i would of done the same.

Agree2 Disagree0

Well i did want ben arfa av always wanted him even when he was at lyon but that besides the point as the post above shows that marseile were un fair to HBA, but like i said wot if another team comes in for him then he will jump ship as soon as the offer arrives and go on strike, wot is the point having sum 1 only wanting to play for a team just so he can wait for the next team to arrive with an offer?

Agree2 Disagree0

Alot of players only sign for teams like us and hope to use us as a stepping stone but it may work to our advantage.
For example:
Maiga if he wants to use us to sign for one of the big teams he's going to have to score goals, goals win games and his price will drive up and if we are winning games we will be finishing higher in the league which in turn will make us a more popular choice to players.

Agree3 Disagree0

Well if you put it like that then i do see where your coming from and we wud benefit then but it just i hate how footballers hav no commitmenr these days its complete tosh now

Agree1 Disagree0

Yeah that's why I like seeing the youngsters coming through such as Sammy Ameobi, Vukcic and Ferguson as they feel they owe the club for giving them the chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2011 14:25:30
i really hope we dont get this miaga because pardew will think that hes bought a striker now and that he wont have to buy another one and we could do so much better than him hes rubbish

Believable2 Unbelievable0

So scoring 15 goals in your first ligue 1 season is rubbish? You don't know what your on about

Agree4 Disagree2

Sorry mate but Maigo has been in Ligue 1 for the last 4 years - since at least 2007 with Le Mans

Ed read the reports about one of Modibo Maiga, Rodellaga and Odemwingie signing which is most likely or is there somone else in the pipline. Also is Pieters a done deal?

{Ed042's Note - Odemwingie is a strange one, has stalled on contract talks, but cant imagine we would go for him above Rodallega or Bendtner solely based on his age.. Maiga has truth to it but could drag out, Sochaux havnt accepted the offer, he wants out, wont know where that one is for a day or two I think.. Rodallega is a target but as with the Zog deal cant imagine Whelan doing us any favours, will want a lot of money for him especially with Zog gone.. As for Pieters from what I can gather because he wanted the move we low balled them, have since gone back with 7m, meets the release clause, so should get done this week all goes well}

15 Aug 2011 11:10:51
Modibo Maiga - SSN reporting he refused to play at the weekend for Sochaux in order to force a move to NUFC for £7 million? ED, anyone know anything about this guy? Apparently one of the top scorers in France last season?

Pete Toon.

{Ed042's Note - Scoring record of approx. 1 every 2.5 games, very good in the air but his work rate isnt the best from what I seen of him last season, very similar player to Ba imo}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

15 Aug 2011 10:39:35
peter odinwingie has stalled in contract talks with WBA. wigan had a £1.5m bid rejected last week, and reports today is that we are intrested in him. he is 30, but showed what he can do last season, i was not impressed with ba on saturday a all, but lets face it, we were awful first half and you dont play arsenal every week. would anyone fancy odinwingie? that PSV LB i think should be here this week, i hope. reports today saying we have bid £7m and pardew hopeful he will be ready for saturday. ED DO YOU HAVE ANY NEWS ON PSV AND ANY STRIKER, ID LIKE 2 STRIKERS IN AND THE LB

{Ed042's Note - LB should be in later in the week all goes to plan mate, striker is 50/50 as AP said.. main targets are Bendtner, Rodallega and Maiga}

The ritual castigation of Joey Barton in the press is getting ridiculous. The Gervinho incident is the sort of handbags that happens every week in football. How many times have you seen a player dive and then an opposition player drag them to their feet? Notice how the Song stamp, which is the real violence that people should be talking about, has been roundly ignored in the media. If Joey Barton had stamped on Song, commentators and writers would form a lynch mob calling for him to be banned from football. You can't have one rule for some and another for everyone else, in spite of Joey's past. Judge incidents on merit, and not the players involved. Joey, like most honest men, can see the red mist descend, but what about the wirters who start foaming at the mouths every time he makes a tackle. With a bit of perspective, any football fan would call the Gervinho incident handbags. At least Joey had the decency to come out and admit he over-reacted. The same can't be said for Song and Gervinho, but of course nobody cares about that.

Believable7 Unbelievable2

We are right behind you Joey

Ed just a comment m8 but if we dont get a l/b or forward in this week before we go to the stadium of s..te...we are donald ducked m8...recon most people on here will agree ...geordie tom

{Ed042's Note - I must be in the minority then, I taped the Sunderland match and from what I seen I wouldnt be too worried at all, Obertan should start behind a striker, once Brown is tied up in a physical battle we`ll cause them serious problems}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Agree with you on obertan as i said pace to burn...but we need someone to put the ball in the net on a regular basis...heard peter beardsleys getting his boots out of retirement for the game on sat pmsl...geordie tom

Agree0 Disagree0

You obviously didnt watch the newcastle and arsenal match ed

{Ed042's Note - I did mate, think any fan who thinks that we should have gone at Arsenal needs their head checked, was always going to be a contain, smash and grab effort with players trying to get some competitive fitness more than anything, wont be the same tactics for Sunderland}

Agree1 Disagree0

I can't remember you lot having a shot against arsenal, yeah we really worried. Brown will have shola in his back pocket

{Ed042's Note - Nobody said you should be mate, and Brown did have a good game as I acknowledged, just said that as a toon fan I wouldnt be worried judging from what I seen, it will be a tight game, think we have the edge though, they were actually very similar performances, both got it tactically wrong 1st half, but genuinely think we deserved our draw, as many of the Arsenal players have said, imo Sunderland should have lost and got lucky}

NUFC have bid £7 mil for Sochaux and Mali 23yr old Striker Madibo Maiga (confirmed on skysports website he scored 15 goals in his 1st season for sochaux looks like a handy player my only reservation is another African CF Ba Shola and Maiga could all go to the ACN so Could SAMeobi wwhich is a dangerous game by nufc

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Nigeria didn't qualify so Shola and Sammy won't be going.

Agree2 Disagree0

What about mali?

Ooooooh we - get to keep Shola - I'm now brimming with confidence

Modibo Maiga is refusing to play for Sochaux in order to force through a move to Newcastle United.

Newcastle have made a bid for the Malian international, which is understood to be in the region of €8million (£7million).However, Sochaux are refusing to do business, which has angered the 23-year-old and he refused to play in the weekend's defeat to Caen.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

15 Aug 2011 09:51:04
I personally wouldn't go for Bellamy. The last thing the club needs right now is another player that could potentially throw a spanner in the works and cause unrest.

I think we should go back with a bid for Nicky Maynard. Scored again yesterday and lets be honest Bristol City are in turmoil. Why would he want to stay there?

Also, after watching the game on Sat it was obvious that we don't need someone like Bendtner. He is a very similar type of player to Shola and Demba. We need a smaller striker with pace and skill that can penetrate defences.

Obertan looked good as well, I'm not going to say I told you so yet, i'm just saying.....................

Geo

Believable5 Unbelievable1

I allready said that in an earlier post m8 about forwards being similar...we defo need a nippy forward ...

Ba is similar to Bendner?
We obviously watched different matches.
