Darren fletcher just announced an "extended break" from football for medical reasons.United have been lacking in midfield all season prior to this. So it has me worried now that they will come in and rob tiote or cabaye from us

Probably not cabaye as he only arrived but there is a huge chance tiote will go

Ed has said himself that rumour is that tiote is available for a price

Hope im wrong but we all know what fatty is like

15m is more realistic for tiote and Cabaye, sure newcastle lose top players but they make a big profit, sorry I mean Ashley recoups some of his money back in Jan, wouldn't be surprised if Ba and Colocini are sold also

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson Sir Alex Ferguson is planning on testing the resolve of Newcastle by making an offer for the clubs star midfield pair Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye.

Ferguson was shocked to learn that midfielder Darren Fletcher is set to miss the rest of the season and is now planning on bringing in reinforcements in January.

With Tom Cleverly and Anderson also sidelined, United find themselves struggling in central midfield with Phil Jones often being deployed in that position rather than his preferred role at centre-back.

United are now considering an offer for the Newcastle midfielders after the duo were instrumental in helping the club to a fantastic start to the season.

Tiote has earned a reputation as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League since making the move from FC Twente for just £3.5million.

With Alan Pardew not ruling out possible departures in January, Ferguson is keen to lure the Ivory Coast international to Old Trafford and hopes that a bid of £15million would be enough to land the midfielder.

Tiote's partner in midfielder, Cabaye, has also quickly earned a legion of fans with his assured displays and ability to find the killer ball.

Having helped Lille win Ligue 1 last season, the French midfielder has a plenty of experience at the highest level and could add that spark that Ferguson is looking for.

The 25-year-old was a bargain at just £5million and United know that they will have to make a significant offer to tempt Newcastle to part with their star man.

United hope that another bid of £15m would be enough, while the chance to play for a team at the top of the league may turn the head of the creative midfielder.
