Everyone saying they want Martinez because he won Wigan the FA Cup, why?

Lets look at the teams they played:

Bournemouth (needed a replay)
Macclesfield
Huddersfield
Everton
Millwall
Man City

So apart from the Everton result and the final they aren't brilliant teams. I daresay even Pardew would have gotten to a least the Everton game with these draws.

The league is a much better way of looking at it and Wigan are going down, the league doesn't lie.

I don't want him, he is overrated just because he saves Wigan from relegation every year! What a great achievement!

And the whole way he handled the McManaman challenge was disgraceful as well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lets look at the team we played:

Third round: Brighton-loss

You can only beat what's in front of you and Wigan beat them all, so stop trying to take the shine off what they've achieved.

If you're still upset about the Mcmanaman incident I suggest you seek help, yes it was a bad tackle and should of been dealt with but it wasn't and fortunately Haidara wasn't seriously injured and its over with, as for Martinez he was in the wrong for defending the tackle however he was just trying to defend one of his young players and take some of the heat off his player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Careful saying everyone. I for sure don't want Martinez at the toon. Anyway we are getting Rafa.

Agree0 Disagree0

We played brighton with basically our reserve team, brighton could easily be in the Prem next season, they aren't a bad side.

And what about defending our own young player Haidara?

I am not taking anything away from Wigan, they did well to win the cup, I just don't see how everyone loves Martinez now.

The fact is he has been in a relegation fight every season, and that's not the kind of manager I want at Newcastle!

Agree0 Disagree0

That reserve team that got beat by Brighton cost more than the Wigan team that beat Man City in the final.

Also I don't suddenly love Martinez I've always admired the way he sets up his teams, how many managers could get the players he has playing such good football?

Joel (loan), Boyce (1m), Alcaraz (free), Scharner (loan), Espinoza (free), McManaman (free), McArthur (1m?), McCarthy (1m?), Gomez (1.7m), Maloney (1m), Kone (2.7m).

Holding a grudge for something done almost two months ago is rather sad, I bet your more bothered by it than Haidara is now.

well done lads, an alright performance away from home, great response from the lads when qpr went 1-0 up. Good resilience to hold on with 10 men with momentum going to qpr. But Elliot my word, wtf I couldn't breathe through the whole remaining 15mins after you got sent off, you almost put this club in grave danger. Bit sloppy in the first 10 mins of the first and second halfs. Quite happy that sunderland drew meaning they can still go down. And I was watching final score and they were saying in the last 5mins of the sunderland game when it was 1-1, and the sunderland fans were leaving already! Pathetic! Well done to you fans who made the trip to qpr you were fantastic. #Bestfans #Mostpassionatefans #mostloyalistfans (Even though this isn't twitter.

Howay the lads!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We were just lucky to be playing the worst team in the league otherwise we'd have been in trouble, another forty five minute performance from us although I wasn't too bothered about that yesterday as we just needed a win by any means but we've played like that all season.

Agree0 Disagree0

The points were all that mattered at this stage.

But I am very worried that we only won that game due to QPR mistakes.

Basically we got lucky.

Our football has not kept us up, our luck has.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hang on. lucky to be playing worst team in league? Every other club have played them twice and got the points. so it was our turn. If we had played them a few weeks ago we would still have beaten them and wouldn't have been in the position we were in. As someone has said above. you can only beat what's in front of you. We beat them, got the three points and are still a Premiership club

Agree0 Disagree0

I meant lucky at the timing of playing them if we played them in January when they hit a run of form beating Chelsea, West Brom and drawing with Man City and Spurs I doubt we would of got three points.
Would we have won the game if we weren't gifted it by the QPR players?

Ashley needs to come out and back pards or sack him. Let him prepare for next season properly or give someone else a chance to start from scratch

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If Ashley does not change Pardew we can expect a barren time next season and every season thereafter

Pardew is there because he is a yes man just like Llambias
If Ashley wants a top 5 club he needs invest most of the 60m coming in from TV
Players Obertans Williamson Shola Gutierez need to move on as well as great servant Collo personal reasons and misfiring Cisse whist the full backs we have need some serious attention

Agree0 Disagree0

Cisse is hardly misfiring.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me if we're playing with one striker again next season it can't be Cisse he just can't play like that, his shot in the eightieth minute summed him up perfectly for me trying to score from thirty yards out instead of being a team player and taking the ball and holding it up relieving the the pressure off his team mates for a bit but no tries to score a spectacular goal and puts us back under pressure.

Agree0 Disagree0

Llambias isn't a yes man. He is hired by mike ashley to do a job. To be honest he actually does that job pretty well although we think he is crap because we do like the job ashley has given him. I think that's an honest comment.

Geordie Al

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree post about Cisse who has been a joke this season and has been the reason along with an inept defence we have struggled ( they and the coaches need changing)

Cisse has been played Out of position sometimes yes but we need a regular scorer and he needs a club that can play his game & we won't play that way

Apart from all Ashley other mistakes not signing a quality striker & CB in August & again in January almost relegated this club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Second post - and just how long do you think a 'No' man would last? Five minutes? Ten? Look, we can relax now and get back to thinking about transfers again. Pardew will stay or go - that's Ashley's call, and who's to say a change would be for the better - remember Kinnear? Souness? Dalglish? Given that we were pretty appalling all season, I won't lose any sleep if some of our so-called stars do leave, so long as they are replaced by better. We need to build from the back - Colo is leaving, Taylor is nowhere near top-class, Williamson is, well, Williamson and Perch is a joke. In midfield we need to find a reliable alternative to Tiote (Sissoko?) and a goalscorer a la Lampard, and up front we need at least two more. I agree that a clear-out of all the dross is a given, but I don't include Cisse in that!

Agree0 Disagree0

For all those slating Cisse. Name one player who would have been successful with the complete lack of service he has been feeding off all season.
He plays on the shoulder of the last defender, he is a poacher, not a target man. He has been completely wasted all season.
That said he has scored very important goals this season, which without we would already be down. He has also had several goals wrongly disallowed, his record this season has been decent in a poor side.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Cisse baiting is getting stupid now, his goals have kept us up and he's had around 5 wrongly ruled out. Try venting you're spleen at the hopeless officials the PL has.

Agree0 Disagree0

I never slated Cisse I just said he can't play as the lone striker.

Just saw Pardew's post match interview. He looks dejected, exhausted and he's all gloomy and lookin down and answering. I feel like he knows his fate is sealed and he might be shown the door, because he's giving reasons like "We are a top 8 side with our best 11, but I was only able to put that team only twice this season".

I'm not a fickle fan, tactically we need a big upgrade, a new manager or new coaches, because I know we have got quality players in our squad.
I can't go through this next season, please.

Change is what we need.

iToon

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree mate. He looked like a bloke who knew he was getting the sack. Its excuse after excuse with him. It's time for him to move.

when remy scored, he didn't celebrate that much, and we've already enquired about him. Remy coming to the toon!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No way bigger clubs after him

Agree0 Disagree0

Would you celebrate if your team was bottom of the leauge?

Agree0 Disagree0

He will.

To the Ed's that were arguing with me about Mancini. looks like I was right. Not good enough for Man City. BTW, let's hope Newcastle can learn from this season and sort out Managers, transfers etc in the Summer so we can start next season in a better way. I would expect us to finish in the top 8 next year with a cup win. {Ed001's Note - let me guess, Ed023? We had the same discussion, I don't rate Mancini at all!}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I totally agree Ed. He one of the best squads in world football and can't do nothing with it. Wouldn't want him at the toon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Top 8 and cup win? Reign it in a bit, we've got some good players, but we've got a lot of stuff to change. Let's just set our sites on top half next season and build from there.

Agree0 Disagree0

I said top 8 and a cup win but forgot to say new manager. As the same principal I had with Mancini, money spent on players but not good enough manager, its the same with Newcastle, good players but not good enough manager. Btw ed yeah it was

to MR Ashley and Co. now we are safe for another season please spend some decent money and get us the team we deserve. make a decision on getting a new manager. get rid of the dead wood at the club. iam nearly 60 now I've seen some s**** play for us over the years but NEWCASTLE UNITED ARE and allways will be my team. ill still wear my toon top when iam on holiday I wore it ( with pride ) when I went to egypt to see the pyramids. I've wore it every country I go to why because iam a geordie proud of where I come from. so come on MR ASHLEY give us what we deserve. geordie tom

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Didnt we spend about £30M in the last two transfer windows? doesn't sound like not spending to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Last transfer window was good. The summer was terrible

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye we spent nearly £30 million. that was in january we spent nowt in the summer that's why we were in the sh. te. we need to spend decent money this summer. get 2 forwards in. a couple of mobile midfielders. a powerfull centre half etc. anyway my thoughts. nearly forgot off on me holidays soon ( turkey ) guess what ill be wearing me toon top. geordie tom

Great fans deserve the team to stay up, the owner his Lacky chairman and manager and coach deserve never to be in the Premiership.

The football today was dire and we are lucky to survive

Playing Williamson ( had a decent game) Gutierez Obertans Elliot Debucy who is woeful Cabaye off the pace and Cisse an embarresment
Complete overhaul needed and at least 10players need selling including 3/4 first team

We need players who ave passion and can play football and a manager who knows what he is doing with commitment

If this tripe is served up again I can see a lot of fans going AWOL

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 May 2013 17:25:51
Well we can all relax now. except Mike Ashley. He now has some big big decisions to make.
Will he keep Pardew?
Will he appoint new manager?
Will he invest big finance on the playing side no matter who is manager?
Looking at squad the manager must move the deadwood on, The two Ameobis, Gosling, Obertan, Jonas, and one of Williamson or S Taylor. In must come a TOP striker not an up and coming one, two ctr backs and two wide men with potential goals in them, move HBA inside. A new number 2 to Krul too. Simpson should maybe have been given a new contract.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Big decisions to make are you silly or what. Ashley just got 60m from the TV money and that is before gates and TV for 2013/14.
He is not passionater like the fans or interested, hypathetically we couold finish 10th if we beat Arsenal which was his aim before the season started. Our football is crap and along with Stoke QPR and Blunderland we are a disgrace on the park.

it will be a disaster if we lose to qpr today

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Disaster averted mate no worries, not so for them down the road though. 1 from Wigan, Mackems or Villa then. Quite like the idea of Mackems staying up cause I like the derby. Not fussed about either of the other two.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well done the mags staying up! from a mackem point of view it means pardew is still the manager roll on next season

Agree0 Disagree0

Yous smb won't get a result like that again so keep it safe in your mind forever

Agree0 Disagree0

They will if Pardon't is still in charge

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2013 14:49:17
i can't believe williamson is named to play against qpr does pardew not know my granny is available for selection (doomed)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Willo and Colo were excellent today

Agree0 Disagree0

Have faith.

Agree0 Disagree0

I saw Willo make some pretty poor mistakes. Then again, Colo did too.

Elliot; Debuchy, Williamson, Coloccini (c), Yanga-Mbiwa; Tiote, Cabaye, Gutierrez; Ben Arfa, Cisse, Gouffran.

4. 3. 3 against QPR.

Good to see Benny and Gouffran playing. Now let's hope that Pardew does not bring on Shola in the 60th minute if we are not winning by then.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Reports have come out suggesting that Newcastle want two strikers in the summer. Newcastle have already enquired about Loic Remy of qpr and have topped Andy Carroll at the list with Remy. Newcastle are looking to activate an 8m release clause in Remys contract although arsenal and spurs are interested and the club will be willing to pay up to 10m for Carroll.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What about Aubameyang? {Ed002's Note - After a year or so St Etienne Aubameyang has attracted the attention of Fiorentina, Manchester City, Inter, Chelsea, Manchester United, Zenit St Pete, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Spurs and PSG, probably amongst others. He has said in the past the one day his dream would be to return to play with a great Milan side. I understand that if a significant bid is made that St Et will give it due consideration. Such a bid is being pondered by Chelsea and by Fiorentina, and I suspect Manchester City will look again as an alternative to Jovetic. I don't see the interest from Inter resulting in a move.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely we will be waiting to see what league we are in and who our boss will be before look at future signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

I cannot see any truth in the Remy rumour.

If we could match the wages he is getting at QPR then he would have signed for us in the last window.

Why would we offer him the wages set by QPR now, if we would not do it in the last window.

Agree0 Disagree0

We won't be if we're the only ones who come in for him then he'd have to take a pay cut if he doesn't want to play in the championship. pardew has already said we're interested.
