In my view, its time we let go of Collo and give Mbiwa and may be De Vrij (if we can get him, and he's good in the air) or any other good CB a chance, with our new offense I believe we can punch a hole in any defence but not until we plug our holes in defence. Collo isn't the player he was a few seasons ago, and I believe Siem De Jong has all the attributes to become our captain.
These are my views.

De Vrij has gone to lazio.

As for collo, he's a leader and one of our most experienced players at the club, we have quite a young squad and we need leaders of men like coloccini, I still think he's a very solid and composed centre half despite losing a few yards of pace

Collo best defender we got it's not his fault the garbage he's been put with he needs someone solid with him at times he's out of position because he's trying to do the other defenders job

I'm with you itoon, de jong does look a champion. Collo hasn't been leading since he wanted to move back to Argentina. I don't think he wants the hassle of the job. Watching de jong play I get the feeling that he would thrive on the role, I also think he is the type of player we all love at St James Park. His character and passion reminds me of Rob Lee. I think he would revell in 50,000 fans singing his name. I get the feeling he would lead by example but also make sure his team went out every week to do their best for the fans. I think this attitude has been gradually missing from our team since we lost guys like solano, gary speed, rob lee. It went completely when souness took over. Kevin Nolan brought it back for a little while and it was a shame we sold him.

Do agree that siem would be a fantastic captain but I wouldn't rite Collo of yet he will come good as long as someone decent along side him
